The purpose of ethical programs is to influence decision makers into taking more ethical decisions. Ethical programs can be more or less impactful based on the importance that the firm gives to it. In company in which there is not that much invested on ethics, can lead to less ethical decisions. The firm should not only invest in creating an ethical culture and communicating ethics through different tools, but it is vital that the company invests in auditing and monitoring. Ethics is not a static topic, but rather a changeable and ongoing process. There should always be an update on ethics, and the tools used to communicate, in order to avoid obsolesce.

Decision should be taken in order to empower the firm and to let the firm progress in terms of financial target but also ethical targets. The pursue of economical reason should not be seen by the employee as main reasoning for their decision. Economic targets and ethical targets are two different things, but they are correlated to each other. Both has as ending result the development and improvement of the firm. Hence, the firm should make sure that employees perceive the distinction between ethics and bottom line (Delaney, Sockell; 1992).
Studies have shown that managers and in general employees are more aware about ethics when there are formalised compliance trainings (Valentine, Fleischman; 2004). Code of ethics are not the only way to empower and emphasise ethical decision making and awareness about corporate ethical values among employee. The firm should have the compliance programs, including code of ethics, compliance trainings and also auditing. Trainings, therefore, should be more appropriate and related to the business of the firm in order to be more efficient. Compliance trainings are different from company to another. Each company should design its training in a way to make it related to the job of employees and to make it more effective. The affinity between the training and the business of the firm, makes the trainings itself
