As the number of incarcerated individuals grow, so has grown the need for correctional personnel. Throughout the growing numbers, the public has become aware of what goes on in correctional facilities between both groups, most of the time leaving a negative and worrying impact on society. Making headlines from time to time, Arizona is no stranger to controversy regarding their correctional system. Some of the main ethical issues that AZ corrections is currently facing are; discrimination, sexual misconduct, and corruption.

An example of sexual misconduct in Arizona corrections would be the Derrick Renard Allen case, a former prison guard at Arizona Perryville’s prison who was indicted on eight accounts of sexual assault against a former prisoner (Rigby, 2003). Sexual Misconduct & Corruption
The Arizona Department of Corrections currently states on their website that through COTA (Correctional Officer Training Academy) they offer cadets a 7-week training program where cadets go through different trainings to learn to prevent unethical behavior, such as sexual misconduct and corruption. COTA is a training that individuals go through before they start their career as a corrections officer (Arizona Department of Corrections).
The trainings are:
• Professional behavior- through professional behavior training, cadets learn through staff how to model behavior and how to engage in the professional standards of the department (Arizona Department of Corrections).
• Ethical standards- Through this training cadets learn about the ADC Code of Ethics and learn that as a cadet and correctional officer they are honest and do not involve themselves in unethical behavior (Arizona Department of
