Struggles for the American Correctional System

Throughout the history of the United States and including the western world. Corrections have served the country by convicting and sentencing offenders depending on the seriousness of the crime. Along with that today, offenders are either placed in probation, incarcerated or taken to community-based corrections. Even though, corrections have always tried to find ways to deter crime by correcting criminals, the poor economy in our country has been the cause for struggles in the correctional system. Some of the causes of economic issues are the cut of budget, over crowing, lack of programs for people with mental illnesses, and lack of innovation.
The cut of budget has been an issue in the American correctional system. According to an instructor in the criminal justice program at the University of Phoenix Salem Learning Center said that when the cut of budget is slashed many correctional facilities must shut down (Ramos, 2012). Recently, four state prisons had been part of the shut-down in the United States, such as Monterey Shock in Schuyler County, and three medium security facilities including; Wayne County, Chateauguay in Franklin County and Mt. McGregor in Saratoga County (Hughes, 2013). The problem appears to be drastic because when correctional facilities face this issue, inmates should be transferred to other correctional facilities and staff have to be willing to relocate to other correctional facilities.
The following issue stated above can lead to over-crowding. Similar to the prisons that confronted the shutdown, available prisons have to be aware that the inmates from the other facilities will transfer. ...l under the economic issue has been explained. The topmost four problems stand as the cut of budget, overcrowding, the lack of programs and innovation. In order to achieve each one of them, the economic situation for the American Corrections System should change.
