When I first came to Woodlynde, I almost had a heart attack during assemble anticipating my birthday being announced. But now here I am in front of all these people telling my story. Before I came to Woodlynde, I was a below average student and I only found enjoyment in playing sports. My grades were suffering in my previous schools which made it difficult for me to continue to follow my passion for sports. However, once I came to Woodlynde, that all changed. I first tried playing lacrosse when I was in elementary school when I joined my area youth league. I went to the practices and played some games, but I was pretty bad so I didn’t enjoy it very much. The other kids in the league were basically born with a lacrosse stick in their hand, so …show more content…
But I gave up. I don’t like to dwell in the past. Because the past happened, and there is no way to change that unless someone invents a time machine. My middle school lacrosse career wasn’t the best either, so once again I gave up. Then I came to Woodlynde and I gave lacrosse another try. And this time, I didn’t give up. Before my first season at Woodlynde started I knew that I needed to work hard and practice so that I could be somewhat close to the level my teammates were on. My dad spent a lot of time helping me prepare for the season and developing my skills, and by the time the lacrosse season came, I felt confidant. When I started playing with the team, I was caught off guard. I expected everyone to be playing like the kids from LaSalle and Conestoga. But I was definitely not disappointed by this. This would truly give me an opportunity to showcase my hard work and to become a leader instead of sitting on the bench watching. Having all of my teammates be close to my skill level and not years ahead of me really built up my confidence. And by the end of the season, I was having the most fun I had ever
Mercutio is an extremely cocky jokester who views the subject of love as a very physical matter. When the Montagues are on their way to the Capulet party, Mercutio mocks Romeo saying, "If love be rough with you, be rough with love. Prick love for pricking, and you beat love down" (I, iv, 27-28). Mercutio is trying to comfort his friend by proclaiming that Rosaline is just another love prick in his life, and Romeo will love again after this phase of heartbreak. Several lines past, Mercutio's Queen Mab speech about a fairy creeping on people's dreams stretches on and on (I, iv, 53-94). Romeo tries to calm his friend, and the kinsman of the Prince admits to talking of nothing; he is one "that loves to hear himself talk and will speak more in a minute than he will stand in a month" (II, iv, 137-139). His tangent proves that his witty, light-hearted remarks puncture yet highlight the passionate, love-seeking qualities of Romeo.
“Be more concerned with you character than your reputation, because your character is what you really are, while your reputation is merely what others think you are.” These words of John Wooden are just a few out of many wise quotes millions of people, not just athletes, are inspired by today and likely will continue to be inspired by for a very long time. Basketball fans and experts consider John Wooden as one of, if not, the greatest coaches of all time. Much of his success is a result of his beliefs and coaching system. Knowing the background of Coach Wooden’s playing and coaching career plays a significant role in understanding how he practiced his beliefs with his teams and how his philosophy and success intertwined to set a precedent for the remainder of collegiate basketball.
Every time I play lacrosse I feel like I am a part of something greater than myself. Being a part of something greater than myself, being changed in my life forever has made me think and feel whenever I play lacrosse. When I was younger playing lacrosse was a learning experience. Playing with more skilled or less skilled girls in lacrosse and playing different positions except for one every game, practice and scrimmage all the time makes me get a different perspective. Playing lacrosse for quick sticks has changed my life forever.
No one can win a whole game of lacrosse all by themselves. Team work is key. To make up the import parts of a team, every single position needs to be filled. We had our defenders, who could stop balls with their hands. We had our attackers, that could shoot from the other side of
It all started freshman year of high school. I really wanted to get involved in some kind of sport or club. I couldn’t decide what to do. Many people said I should join the lacrosse team and my response was “I have never played before, how am I suppose to make the team”. I always had an interest in lacrosse however I was scared to go out and buy all the expensive equipment and not make the team..
As more of my teammates began to show up, I recognized most of them. However, I learned later that if I went on to play in the Spring, this would not be the same exact team I would play with. With only twenty minutes until we began,I put on all of my gear and my dad gave me a thorough warm up. Time seemed to fly by, and before I knew it, everyone was gathered together as positions were being assigned. I was originally overwhelmed with excitement, but as the game drew closer, the joy I had felt was replaced with anxiety. The lacrosse game taking place before ours ended and we entered and took our place on our bench. I recognized the opposing team’s jerseys quickly and identified them as a travel team from our area. Taking one final breath, I rushed into the lacrosse net enjoying my bird’s eye view, unsure of what was to
Ever since I was young my parents said “Drew you should try new things, even if it means you fail at something.” I never really listen to them until one time in the study grade when I decided that it was ok to fail. I asked my parents “ Can we look for a club basketball team that I could try out for?” Thrilled in hearing that I wanted to try something new, they found I tryout for a team called the Cincinnati Royals. A couple of other friends agreed to try out with me, but I was still very nervous because it was my first tryout. All three of us made it through the first round of cuts and were called back for another tryout. I remember being more nervous for the second tryout than I was for the first. My palms sweated the whole night, every shot I took clanked of the rim, it wasn’t my night. My two other friends were told that they made the team, but I unfortunately got cut which I expected given how I performed. At first I saw this experience as an overwhelming failure, but I soon realized that I challenged myself, and I could learn from the criticism the coaches gave me. Taking the new stuff I learned from the tryout, I found a different club basketball team that I was fortunate enough to make, which I got to meet new people and play a sport that I loved. Although I may not have gotten the
After playing for the school for two years my parents and I made the decision for me to start playing
All throughout high school I played on the softball team. Proceeding the season before where we went undefeated with a district championship, my senior year we were supposed to be unstoppable. We received a few new players to add on to our army and the entire school was counting on our run to state. I was so excited to have an amazing end to my high school softball career, but unfortunately my dream was cut short when we lost in the first round of districts. I did not know that loss would change me the way it did.
It was on a regular school day when then seventh grader, Macy Misfeldt stumbled on a lacrosse flier posted in one of the hallways at Superior Middle School. This flier incited an interest in Misfeldt and then prompted her to ask her mother’s permission to join the team. After being pronounced as too young to do so Misfeldt anxiously anticipated her next year.
In 2014 I was determined to make the high school soccer team. Every day at 8 am at the beginning of a dreadfully hot August morning, I would get to the turf fields for 4 hours and participate in “hell week”. After a long week, I made the JV team. I was never put into the game and felt like my hard work was put to no use. My sophomore year rolled around and I tried extra hard to impress the coaches. Anything and everything was a competition to make it to the top. By the end of the week, we all gathered around the paper that had names of the players who made it. I didn’t make the team. After tears and telling myself to move on, I went to the field hockey tryouts. I knew nothing about the sport and was terrified that soccer wasn’t my go-to
Each game, my passion grew. Each team, new memories and lifelong friends were made. Sports sometimes make me feel disappointment and at loss; but it taught me to be resilient to a lot of things, like how to thrive under pressure and come out on top. Being the team captain of my high school’s football and lacrosse team showed me how having a big responsibility to bring a group together to work as one is compared to many situations in life. Currently playing varsity football, varsity lacrosse, and track I take great pride in the activities I do. Staying on top of my academics, being duel enrolled at Indian River State College, working three nights a week, and two different sport practices after school each day shaped my character to having a hard work
It was a freezing cold springtime snowy day, with a gray sky and heavy snowfall, this was only the beginning of a very terrible lacrosse game for me. As a freshman, I was still new to the concept that lacrosse was not a game canceled because of low temperatures and snow so heavy you can't even see 3 feet in front of you. So, nonetheless, the game is still on. Now, I am a pretty superstitious person, sitting in the locker room gnawing on my rubber blue mouthguard and retaping my stick with black tape. That's how it always goes before gametime, that is my thing.
The activity that has been influential in my life is lacrosse. Lacrosse has been important in my life because it teaches leadership, scholarship, and character. I started playing lacrosse in fifth grade and have played youth lacrosse, box lacrosse, and I am going to play lacrosse at the modified level. While lacrosse is fun to play, it also makes me a better person, on and off the field. Lacrosse has been instrumental in developing my leadership skills.
Everyone has a special place that people will never forget. Sometimes it is because there were places that people experienced great joy or comfort. A special place represents peoples’ special memories either good or bad. Memory will following people whole life, and store people’s heart deeper. Good memory will coming all time. My special place and my memory is my grandparent’s house; my grandparent’s house practically is my second home. I would never forget that special place because of things going on my grandparent’s house, which is symbolized by my grandparent’s love.
