Voter Fraud and the Real Problem According to the Presidential candidate Donald Trump, the election is “rigged” and there is “large scale fraud” occurring at the polls. Many people have the same thought as Trump and want voter id laws for their protection. Although voter fraud may seem like a serious problem, in reality it’s not.
“Voter fraud is the illegal interference with the process of an election”, stated by Ballotpedia. Anything that could affect an election, or voting illegally is voter fraud. It is one of many ways to affect an election. There are several kinds of voter fraud including: voter impersonation, voter suppression, registration fraud, vote buying, fraud by election officials, dead voting, double voting, double voting, and felon voting found on Ballotpedia. …show more content…

Due to these laws SagePub found that democrats felt less confident in elections while republicans were more confident. The Washington Times stated that young, black, and newly registered voters were more likely to stay home in states with id laws. A Government Accountability Office (GAO) report indicated that some 100,000 fewer people voted in Kansas and Tennessee due to the introduction of id laws into the states. Another GAO study stated that young adults were less likely to show up to vote in Tennessee and Kansas after id laws with a huge drop in 18-year-olds voting in Kansas.
Out of all the drops in voter turnout caused by voter id laws the most significant one is black voter turnout. ProPublica found that black voter turnout dropped at a faster rate than white voter turnout. Also, they found that Pennsylvania showed less votes turned in than in 2008 because of voter id laws.
As seen the voter id laws are affecting voter turnout in several ways all over the country. These laws clearly have more of a negative effect on voting than a positive one, but there is something we should consider making laws about and that is
