There is a place near my home. It was my sanctuary, my safe place. Its rolling hills and opened sky warms my heart and cleared my mind. Life can be confusing and scary at times, this was my place to slow down and think. I live in suburban New York, right outside of West Point Military Academy. Much of my surroundings are historical and famous, but much of it goes unnoticed. For years I drove past this trestle on the way to my barn. It was a tall metal rail road towering over the rolling hills in the valley. There was rarely a time when there was no one stopped on the side of the road taking a picture. The scene was always so picture perfect. It unified man with nature. Little did I know but that trestle would hold some of my greatest memories, my worst reminders, and my most revealing moments. As i got older I began to venture out of my house more. My friend Brianna was a couple years older than me and could drive. The trestle was our place to go. It was forbidden and exciting. We used to climb up the steep mountain to reach the actual tracks, then walk on them. We would listen for the train to sound its horn to announce its arrival, then we’d hold on to the side rails for dear life. The entire trestle would shake and vibrate with the weight of the massive train passing over it. Although highly illegal and dangerous, sitting on the …show more content…
The trestle was our first and last date. In Freshmen year we went hiking there to the top of the mountain to overlook the valley. Although difficult to get to, the views were breathtaking. The trek up the mountain included several river crossings and steep inclines, but it was all about the challenge. Four years later we did the same thing except this time we caught the sunset when we reached the top. The sky was painted pink and purple like the watercolors of a Ignacio Barrios painting. Although beautiful in the moment, the walk back down was quite dangerous and difficult to
Each person has a place that calls to them, a house, plot of land, town, a place that one can call home. It fundamentally changes a person, becoming a part of who they are. The old summer cabins, the bedroom that was always comfortable, the library that always had a good book ready. The places that inspire a sense of nostalgic happiness, a place where nothing can go wrong.
The people of the Eastern Woodlands made many tools to help them in their everyday lives. They made spears, weirs, nets, bows and arrows, lances, knives, taps, snares and deadfall for hunting. Most of those tools were made of wood or bark and other forest material. Arrowheads were made from chert, or flint, from sedimentary rocks. They were shaped like isosceles triangles, the smallest arrows were used for hunting birds, the bigger ones were to spear bears or deer. Flint knives were often oval, or teardrop shaped. For fishing they made spears, weirs, and nets. They also made canoes from hollowed-out trees to help with fishing in the lakes and streams. Some other tools they made were axes made of stone to strip bark, clear fields and removing fat from hides. Axes
I grew up in Hemet, California in a neighborhood filled with friends that I grew up with. I remembered a lot about my home that I grew up in mostly because I remember details better than most people. I may remember details, but I love looking back on memories I had with my family and friends.
Imagine your first home. The place where you lived right after you were born. Where you took
These are the reasons why I need my special place. Without a place to go I would probably have an ulcer. I believe that everyone needs a place to go to get away from it all. It is an opportunity to explore a new and unique world all of my own. I can enjoy activities that I once got to enjoy when I was a kid, I can think through all the problems in my head, and most of all, I can get away from those people who give me the ulcer.
...ly with wilderness and believe that these are the places that have touched me most deeply.
The earliest railroads in the United States were short wooden tramways connecting mines or quarries with nearby streams, which horses could draw heavier loads than on the common roads. At first the railroad faced strong opposition especially from canal backers, they were considered dangerous because flying sparks could set fires. Breaks were feeble and it was difficult to stop in the right place. To protect its investment in the Erie Canal, the carrying of freight on railroads was temporarily prohibited by New York Legislature (Kennedy 313).
home there. Home is more than just four walls and a roof and to feel
Railroads have made better the lives of most citizens in the US. By the 1890s, the United States was becoming an urban nation , railroads were a great way of transport between towns. They were used for the shipping of food, building materials and fuel. The presence of them could bring a territory a lot of opportunities as well as it could change its economy in many ways. Railroads also helped to shape physically the growth of towns and also a lot business grew around focal points in the railroad industry. Later on, the United States transport system was composed by 320,000 kilometers of railroads that prolonged from the Pacific to the Atlantic and vice versa and also connecting with the frontier countries, Mexico and Canada.
As the two men hiked, they came upon many rugged trails and hills that were difficult to overcome, however they did it together and kept moving on. The view from the trail was beautiful with many places to stop and admire the view, but they couldn’t seem to get above the canopy of the trees to truly take in the whole view. The man that strove to see the beautiful scenery from an unobstructed viewpoint was trying in every way to get above what was around him to see the true beauty of the mountains.
As a Christian, I feel there are several places where I can feel close to God. I love to be in...

A place, for me, is somewhere that I am familiar with and I recognize it in some way as my own special geographic location. It is somewhere I am emotionally attached to and it is a place that I wish to remain at. I personally feel that it has taken me years to achieve this particular comprehension about where for certain that place is for me in my life, and to make out why I feel a certain way about being within the walls of my own home. I have now come to realize that my home is where my heart will always truly be, because I believe it is the only place where I will always be loved without
I used to go there to be alone or to dream with my eyes open admiring the blue sky or the clouds. I liked to go there to lay down on the grass, listen to the wind, kiss the flowers and watch the leaves moving. It was hard to go up the hill to get there, but I wanted to see everyday my seven trees, to see how the color of the leaves changed and to feel the softness of the grass.
