Some books have been known to change the way people view the universe, even how they act. One book was very influential to the world when it was published, the King James Bible. The King James Version of the Bible has helped shape the way many people thing and write. Its history and importance is just as relevant today as it was back when it was first written.
The rich history behind the King James Bible is complex. “The King James Bible was commissioned in 1604 at the Hampton Court Conference outside of London” (Curtis). The time period that it was written in can show insight on why someone decided to create this version of the bible. “Thinking about the time period it is realized that during this time period life moved much more slowly than it does in today’s world, something like crowning a monarch was a grand event and affected everyone’s life and the nation” (Curtis). After Queen Elizabeth’s death James the VI, who became known as James I for England, succeeded the throne. Since James was not originally in England at this time he had to travel from Edinburgh to London for his coronation. “Because James had been born under Presbyterian influences the Puritans had reason to believe that James would help them with their cause, to continue the reformation” (Curtis). However, they were gravely mistaken. “When James was traveling to England he was stopped by a group of Puritans who had outlined their grievances and the reforms they desired, known as the Millenary Petition” (Curtis). “This petition talked about church services, church ministers, church livings, and church discipline” (Curtis). “The petition said nothing about a new translation of the Bible” (Curtis). “Taking the Puritans’ requests seriously, James called a confere...

The King James Bible, however, did not just affect writers because scientists and political leaders also used this for their own gain. “Scientists found their awestruck of the universe in this Bible. When Samuel Moore sent his first revolutionary telegraph message in 1844, it quoted the Book of Numbers in King James English” (Jenkins). Political leaders such as Martin Luther King Jr., Abraham Lincoln, and other radical reformers used the language of the King James Bible to shape their own dreams for what they wanted in America (Jenkins). The importance of the King James Bible in that time period can be shown through the literary works and other influential people, to England and later the United States.
Many know the importance and the history of the King James Bible back when it was first written, but some may not know that it can still be relevant today.
James II of England was the first king to succeed to the kingdoms of both England and Scotland and to be crowned King of both. He was also known as the Duke of York, the Duke of Albany, and the honorary Duke of Normandy; a title that was never to be held again by an English monarch. He was called Lord High Admiral as he commanded the English navy in the Anglo- Dutch war, which resulted in a new English city renamed for him (New York). He became King of England on February 6, 1685 and remained so until he fled to France, escaping the hatred of his countrymen and the threats of his son-in-law on December 11, 1688. He was crowned King of Scotland 11 weeks after his coronation in England on April 23, 1685 and continued ruling over Ireland, even after his deposition, until July 1, 1690 when he was defeated by William of Orange at the Battle of the Boyne. Despite his numerous titles and seemingly unlimited influence, his views concerning God, his unpleasant personality, and his outdated views on government would lead to the reconstruction of the English government and a removal of a second monarch, less than 100 years after the removal of Charles I. It’s an impressive resume for a not so impressive man.
Metanarrative Essay The Biblical metanarrative can be explained by a Christian as the true and triumphant story from the beginning in Genesis until the future is prophesied in Revelation. Others who may not be a Christian do not understand the true power and love God has over us and for us and may just simply see it as a story or a rule book that they don’t want to follow. They see the Bible and all the things and plans God has for us and our lives and just think they don’t want any part of it and instead they live in sin. It is important that these people not only learn the true story but understand it as well.
The most highly referenced and revered as sacred are The King James Version, considered a masterpiece of English literature, The Tanakh, or Hebrew Bible, The Aprocrypha, the books believed left out of some bibles, The Vulgate, the Latin Bible used for centuries by the Roman Catholic religion, and The Septuagint, the first ancient Greek translation of the Tanakh (Geisler and Nix 15, McCallum 4). The Bible is considered a sacred text by three major world religions, Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Many believers consider it to be the literal truth. Others treat it with great respect, but believe that it was written by human beings and, thus is often contradictory in its tenets.
The Reformation was full of war and inventions that many had never seen before, affecting the religious and social political systems in positive and negative ways. The first event in the Reformation was the Printing Press. The Printing Press enabled the circulation of the bible, starting the spread of Christianity and the Catholics. The Printing Press was created by Johannes Gutenberg in 1450. Before the Printing Press the bible had to be printed by hand, which meant that the copies had to be written word for word. Because they had to be written word for word only the important people had them such as Popes and other religious leaders. Therefore everyone would gather together somewhere and listen to the one man with the bible preach the word. This limited some from learning the word because of the language barrier. At the time all the bibles printed where in the Latin language. So they had a translator and copies of the bible in many other languages. Technological advantages of the 15th century enabled the spread of the word all over Europe, serving as a catalyst for reform leaders of the 16th century.
“The King James Version has become so sanctified by time and use that to many people it has come to be regarded as the Bible.” Our English Bible

The authors focused on writing about problems of the church in the period before the middle ages. Their reasoning for writing about is was purely to learn from the past mistakes and not to imitate it. “There, scholars and mystics studied the past not to imitate, but to learn. The desire to reform was a profound as the need. But to reform the church and society one had to know their original form (Lurier 274).” Northerners in Europe began to use the new invention of the printing press; they began to write their works in the native tongue of the land (the vernacular). Prior to the printing press works were written and then later copied down translating to Greek or Latin. The printing press allowed writers to write in vernacular and be read by many people. There was a huge concern with translating the bible into vernacular because it was an idea of protestant reform. Martin Luther is considered not only to be a reformer (and a founding father of Protestantism), but also a humanist
The King James Bible, is considered to be another translation of the Bible. The King James version conveys particular themes of faith, in Psalms, sermons, and parables. Each theme communicates a message in a manner suited to each form, to also keep engage the audience engaged. Psalms was written in a form of a song, parables are considered narratives to be easily illustrated, and sermons were created by the pastors to preach and allow the audience to get a clear understanding of the messages being presented. The King James Bible expresses spirituality through imagery, complex diction, and figurative language.
As you may already know, King James VI and I was the king of Great Britain,
Before the use of the printing press the clergy was responsible for the production and spread of literature. Prior to the utilization of the printing press there were very few books available. This was due to slow manufacturing rates, and text that was accessible was in Latin and the cost was high (Howard 47). The high price and lack of available text in the vernacular of the lay people made them completely reliant on the church. The printing press allowed new texts to be printed and shared quickly without the permission of the Church. The church’s loss of control over what was published allowed for rapid spread of new ideas. Common people were no longer reliant on the Church to provide the message of God that they lived by. The contents of the Bible was no longer only available for a specialized priest class, but all individuals (Howard 47). Therefore, common people no longer needed the Catholic Church. The new ideas made possible by the printing press challenged the Roman Catholic Church promoting the Protestant
Introduction It is a fact that the Bible is the most popular and the oldest book in the world. It has been on this Earth long before the oldest person alive. To arrive to what the Bible is today, it was quite the journey as it took many obstacles in terms of confirmation of source, translations, analyzing and interpretation. Responsibility of elders, pastors or overseers According to the Holy Bible in Acts 20:17,28 the terms elders, pastors or overseers all refer to a single office. Therefore, in this paper I will be using the single term pastor. In the discussion of 21st century ideology vs biblical thought I am choosing the New Testament book of Acts. I will be discussing what this historical book says about the first century church and how does my church Bethel Gospel Tabernacle function in comparison.
The Bible is the bestseller in many English speaking countries today. The reason for this is especially the US, whose founding base still lies behind religion. The first efforts of translating the Bible into English began about two millenniums ago. Partial translations of the book can be traced back to the 7th century. There are many manuscripts written in Old English, Middle Age English and the language we use today. When we sum up all these, we reach a number like more than 450 different copies of the biblical writings.
The bible is what helps keeps our faith alive as it contains a rich amount of history that tells us of God’s revelation and the ways how our faith works. Although the bible contains numerous works of different people, it is still a work of God that helps our faith remain constant and grow, as everything written was under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. In some way, I was able to understand the value also of the other books, as before I did not really take interest of the other books included bible, aside from the likes of the Gospels, Genesis, Exodus, Psalms, and Proverbs. Nevertheless, I realized that the books are all part of the bible as each has a purpose to serve and stands as a testament to the infidelity of humanity, and of God’s unfailing love for
