According to SmartMotorist.com, over 95% of all vehicle accidents are caused by driver errors. No matter what the causes are, most of these accidents could be prevented by the drivers if they drove responsibly. These drivers often try and blame the other parties involved in the incidents, failing to acknowledge their own poor driving habits. To change poor driving habits, one must first acknowledge what poor driving habits they possess. In this essay, I will explain the similarities among skilled and unskilled drivers, the major differences between the types of drivers, and I will then offer some suggestions as to how all drivers may improve their driving skills.
There are many similarities shared by good and poor drivers. Good and bad drivers come from all ages, ethnicities, and genders. Both skillful and dangerous drivers drive all kinds and makes of vehicles from clunkers to luxury automobiles. Proficient or dangerous drivers can be found in cities,

urban areas, or rural communities. These drivers can be rich or poor individuals. All of these drivers have been required to take driving and written tests to obtain their licenses. They must also be at least fifteen years of age to get their learners’ permits and at least sixteen years of age to attain their permanent licenses. In general, this is where their similarities stop. On the other hand, safe and hazardous drivers are different in many ways. First of all, many poor drivers multi-task while driving. They fidget with their radios, read and send text messages, and scroll through social media while driving. These dangerous drivers often follow too closely behind other automobiles. For example, I was involved in an accident where traffic was coming to a stop. The driver behind me was so close to my bumper that when I was slowing down, she did not have enough time to react; therefore, she smacked right into the back of my car. Careless drivers frequently disobey traffic signs, drive too fast, and/or fail to adjust their speed limits for adverse weather. They carelessly drive under the influence of alcohol or other drugs. On another occasion, while I was riding with my sister who was pulling out after stopping at a railroad crossing, an intoxicated dentist traveling over the speed limit clipped the front passenger side of our vehicle. These dangerous drivers often fail to use their turn signals and aggressively weave in and out of traffic, honking at law-abiding drivers. Society must find ways to protect safe drivers from these horrific offenders. I have several suggestions regarding how reckless driving could be curbed. All drivers should be required to participate in driver’s education classes before receiving their licenses. In addition, all drivers involved in serious accidents as a result of their failures to follow safe driving practices should be required to re-attend additional driving classes. Furthermore, the use of cellphones and similar modern technology while driving should be against the law. There should be increasingly costly and severe penalties for second, third, etcetera offenses of the law. It would also be helpful to provide more police surveillance or cameras at high accident prone areas. Likewise, placing more radar detectors at speed change locations will assure more motorists slow down. In this essay, I explained the similarities among skilled and unskilled drivers, the major differences between the types of drivers, and offered some suggestions as to how all drivers may improve their driving skills.
Despite the similarities regarding the ethnicity, age, sex, vehicles, economic status, geographic location, and rules regarding the obtainment of a driver’s license, there are immense differences between the driving practices of good verses bad drivers. In general, poor drivers fail to follow the laws and regulations concerning distances between vehicles, traffic signs, speed limits, signaling, and driving under the influence of intoxicants. They also fail to act responsibly by adjusting their speed to accommodate the circumstances of their environment, avoiding the distractions of their radios and modern technology, and driving aggressively. Changing some laws and increasing penalties and security practices can improve driving
habits.

Even though he has met bad drivers throughout his life, he strongly believed that Miami drivers are the worst drivers because of the way the drive. Today’s society appears to be constantly on the go. People seem to be pulled in multiple directions at once. Individuals never appear to have enough time to complete tasks that continually accumulate. It can be difficult to criticize someone that tries to make the most out every minute. Unfortunately, some of today’s drivers show a lack of judgment and trying to perform other tasks, while behind the wheel. People may feel this is best use time while getting to a destination. Occasionally, the small amount of time that people are trying to gain results in a time consuming accident. With modern conveniences that are geared toward an on the go public, individuals appear to be too preoccupied to driving safely.
Most if not all teens look forward to several events in their life. One of those events are getting a driver's license. This small piece of plastic is their ticket to freedom. This ticket is more than just freedom to be able to drive their friends around but also freedom from the ritual of their parents having to drive them everywhere and embarrass them in public. Also this is a freedom to the parents as well they may save more on gas from not having to drive their children around. However, some teens are not as safe as they possibly could be if they were to take a few steps to promote good driving habits. One reason driverless cars should replace human drivers is because they are safer and offer a comprehensive solution to a problem that plagues the entire world – automobile accidents. Driving is something everyone does. It is something that teenagers look forward to. Something that parents dread coming because it shows that they are growing up. It is a mile marker that everyone reaches at some point in time. But, when it comes down to it, driving is one of the most serious things people do everyday, one mistake and everything could be over. The increase in technology has led to an increase in distracted driving, especially in teens or adolescence.
Drivers in their 20s make up 27 percent of the distracted drivers in fatal crashes (NHTSA). In a class of 30 High School sophomores students between the ages of 15 and 16, will be in their twenties within 4-5 years. Within this short amount of time, that means that 8 of them will be responsible for a fatal car crash. If they survive the crash, they will face charges of irresponsible driving, if not something worse such as vehicular manslaughter which can result in up to 20 years in prison. This will affect them for the rest of their lives. But the answer lies not in stricter driving laws. The solution lies in educating motorists about the dangers and punishments of distracted driving. It goes without saying that every effort is made to ensure our "safety"; to keep us from harm or danger. Every time you slide behind the wheel of your vehicle you are taking a risk. Driving is the riskiest activity in our lives. It is an inherently "unsafe" environment. The most perfect vehicles on the best designed highways on beautiful sunny days driven by fallible human beings crash into each other. The only way to drive "safely" (as we are all admonished to do!) is to learn more about the process. Learn more about your vehicle and how to maintain it; learn how to use your eyes to look far down the road; learn to spot problems before they happen; and also learn to deal with emergency situations. In most cases it's the human element that fails. After all, safe is only as safe does.

The amount of automobile collisions suggests that prevention must occur in order to make the roads safer. By examining older drivers’ medical complications, older drivers must be retested to be able to drive a vehicle.
The major cause of aggressive driving is the discourteous or inattentive driver. Driving behaviors include changing lanes to closely, tailgating and "the number one cause is the left lane hog." (Larson 1) These seemingly small errors infuriate the potentially aggressive driver and cause a transformation indescribable to man kind. Reduced law enforcement, highway traffic, the growing congestion is cities, and personal issues play a large role in the disposition of the aggressive driver. Then the angry driver may demonstrate his or her displeasure by speeding around the other vehicle, cutting the other car off, and or with a number of verbal and non-verbal messages. Though the driver may feel justified in his or her action, but the display in most times is very dangerous and often will result in damage to one or both cars involved.

Whether or not teenagers should be allowed to get their driver 's license at age sixteen is a known topic across the United States. One of the causes for this argument is the number of fatalities caused by young drivers. Evidence shows, “In 2012, 1,875 drivers between the ages of 15 and 20 died in motor vehicle crashes and an additional 184,000 young drivers were injured, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration,” (“Teen Drivers”). Most accidents are caused by young drivers. In the United States of America, citizens may receive their driver’s license at sixteen, if they meet the requirements. The number of accidents over the last ten years have drastically increased, drivers are paying less attention to the road itself. Many individuals behind the wheel of a car believe that their driving does not affect the road conditions, however it always will. The driving habits of today are catastrophic due to the reasoning that the driving will affect other lives through reckless or distracted driving, and disobeying traffic laws.
III. Connection: Everday we have to deal with these people on our roads. We run a great risk just driving around the corner to go to the store or a quiet trip to church. According to U.S. News and World Report, the U.S. Department of Transportation estimates that two-thirds of fatalities are at least partially caused by aggressive driving. Fortunately, there is something we can do about it.
Road safety is one of the most important aspects of daily living. Our vehicle is our main transportation from one place to another. The number of car and motorcycle accidents seem to be increasing because of the many distractions, the lack of safety measures and judgment to road conditions and weather. Not being cautious increases the chances of not only injuring ourselves but hurting others as well. On the road, you see people talking on their cell phones or texting, eating, putting makeup on, changing the radio station, reading or using your GPS while driving. These are all distractions that endanger drivers, passengers and bystanders safety. Safe driving involves off-road precautionary measures such as making sure tires are properly inflated, testing windshield wipers, getting regular oil changes and tune-ups and adjusting the mirrors.
