The Boeing 747 is one of the world largest, sophisticated and long lasting airliner. It has flown for over 40 years in the sky. It has changed the world a lot in terms of travelling habits and aviation logistic industry. This essay will be discussed about the reason behind that the Boeing 747 can last for over 40 years and still being an iconic all over the world until today.

Boeing has extensively cooperated the design phase with PanAM and several airlines in order to meet with their requirements (US Centennial of Flight Commission, 2012). Due to the rising in cost and expeditious increase in amount passengers, airlines were urging with high capacity aircraft carry more passenger in each flight in order to generate more revenue with minimal cost. This communication between Boeing and airlines enhanced the Boeing 747 becoming a customer friendly product, it leads to a dramatic boost in Boeing sales once it was introduced. Moreover, the Boeing 747 is capable to transform itself into different usage, it is not only use for transporting passenger, it can also convert into cargo with a nose cargo door, space-shuttle carrier, or even used as military aircraft. Furthermore, the Boeing 747 was the first aircraft with such gigantic size, it raised the worldwide awareness instantly. The Boeing 747 initially becoming iconic, everyone knows they were flying with the 747 rapidly spread through the world, wildly people named it as “The Queen of Sky” (Sutter, 2006). The cooperation between users and Boeing boosted initial sales of Boeing 747, with its spectacular design and iconic size, everyone could recognize the Boeing 747 by intuition. the design of the passenger cabin, etc. would be important to Airbus. and Boeing's customers, the airlines. In addition, Boeing probably has. more brand name and reputation than Airbus. After all, the 747 has been flying for 30 years with one of the lowest accident records.
T’was the eve of Tuesday, January 28, 2014, where at 8pm, I attended the performance, Boeing, Boeing at the Venice Theater Main stage with my younger sister. After reading a quick preview of this play, I decided to see this as one of my required three because I was very intrigued in twisted love stories such as this one.
Boeing is a very interesting company. Boeing may only be one company but they compete in two different markets: commercial airlines and the defense industry. The main competition in the commercial airline market is Airbus. Airbus and Boeing seem to have the commercial airline industry in a chokehold basically having no other competitors. Since the industry has high barriers to entry they will not see much competition anytime soon. Boeing is the American leader in commercial airplanes and Airbus is the European leader, which means they are constantly battling. Their competing aircrafts are the Airbus A380 and the Boeing 747. Rivaled only by European giant Airbus in the aerospace industry, Boeing is a leader in research, design and manufacture of commercial jet airliners, for commercial, industrial and military customers. Despite enjoying immense success in its market and dominating an industry that solely recognizes engineering excellence, it is crucial for Boeing to ensure continued growth through consistent strategy formulation and execution to avoid falling behind in market share to close and coming rivals.
Planning, an imperative part of any business environment, is a daily focus at Boeing Corporation. The organization faces daily challenges to produce products to fit the consumer wants for air travel, comfort, and efficiency. While Boeing deals with a constant need for innovative ideas, it also deals with the challenges of its main competitor Airbus, who has historically been subsidized by many of the European nations to compete with Boeing for a larger share of the market. Boeing management, through excellent planning, an ethics policy that demands large returns for shareholders, and constant work to comply with ever changing legal demands of the industry has led to the constant success of the company. Boeing 787 Dreamliner was first announced to the public in January 2003 with approximated costs of five billion dollars , since the sales of the aircraft were high it was supposed to enter commercial service during 2008 but the building up of aircraft seemed more anticipated than expected , since the management decided to use composite materials as an alternative for traditional metals as composite materials are lighter , stronger , cheaper and also resistance to wild variety of chemical agents including acid rain and salt spray as these are the conditions under which metals suffer , Boeing also shared their views in development of air craft with suppliers which effected in a project significantly more anticipated than expected . More than three years later after the project exceeded the estimated budget at last 787 entered commercial service in September 2011.
Boeing has looked at everything from the design of the anti-collision lights, to the reduction of small gaps in the airfoil. This has created an aircraft that is extremely aerodynamic and efficient at any task it performs. The 737 was originally created on May 11, 1964, however it wasn’t until November 9, 1964 that production was officially approved. On February 19th 1965 Lufthansa placed its first order for the 737-100, and on the 9th of April 1967 the 737 flew for the first time. In 1970, Boeing had less than 35 orders for the 737 and considered canceling the program.
Technology Innovation: - Boeing should carefully analyze the market to evaluate the trends in the airline industry and aggressively invest in a new product line (top dog strategy) that could counter Airbus’s A380.
Over the last 50 years, The Boeing Company has shown itself to be an industry leader in the fields of technology and putting their vast physical assets to use. Boeing has been at the forefront of innovation in both commercial aviation, and airplanes used for defense purposes. Whether it was the introduction of the first modern airplane with dual engines when the Boeing 247 was unveiled or introducing new standards of efficiency into their business model, Boeing seems to have always been one step above the competitors. So while Boeing was hurting their competitors on one end, they decided to go and become more efficient on the other end. So not only were they the leader in technological innovation, they improved the productivity of their largest business unit all while decreasing the amount of space they used.
Few days after the grand opening of the new headquarters in Chicago, which was part of the campaign, the world was shocked by the act of terrorism. On September 11, 2001 terrorists used this company’s product as a weapon of mass destruction to massacre innocent people. Four Boeing airplanes used by terrorists caused great concern for the company about its swinging campaign. Some serious decisions need to be taken about the branding process. Problems Although Boeing’s top management considered this company a top global brand, critics believed this company did not make adequate changes in regard to its growth, in other words, did not adapt itself to the 21st century.

In 1990 Boeing was set to introduce the 777, the world’s largest and longest haul twin-bodied jet at the time. The 777 would serve the medium and long haul markets like the expanding Asian market. Boeing’s main competitors, Airbus Industries and McDonnell Douglas, had already announced plans to produce airliners that would compete directly with the 777. Analysts believed that the intense competition between the manufacturers would serve to depress prices for the airliners. Lower prices for aircraft would mean lower earnings.
Aerospace engineers examine, analyze, design, produce, and occasionally install components that make up aircraft, spacecraft, high-altitude vehicles, and high-altitude delivery systems (missiles). Satisfaction with the romantic image of rocket building can buoy many engineers through the highly anonymous work environments that many of them face. Individuals don't assemble rockets; teams do, dozens of teams working in highly supervised coordination. An aerospace engineer plays some part on one of the teams, spending more of her time (roughly 70 percent) in a lab, at a computer, and assembling reports than doing anything else. Not being able to see the "big picture" frustrates some professionals. The path to becoming an aerospace engineer is a rigorous one, but those who manage to survive the difficult lift-off emerge with an above-average degree of career satisfaction.
.British Airways were the pioneers with the introduction of space beds. To keep the Singapore Airlines to continue be a leader in providing the greatest comfort service to customers, it is our recommendation that Singapore Airline should continue with the installation of the space beds as this will keep them on top of the game with their main competitors. Furthermore, for an airline's long term Business Class customers to be taken seriously, the company should offer the comfort, of either the same value or even higher, to their customers. The drawback of the larger seats (space beds) would decrease the number of seats in the business class area of a jumbo jet from 58 to 50. However, installation of spacebeds ( in long term) will hopefully bring higher income to the Singapore Airlines because of the higher seat utilization.
How many times have an average person flown in an airplane, did people ever think what the world would be like without them? Airplanes have provided people with opportunities to go all over the world to experience different cultures and places. They also create jobs for many people which contributes to how they boost the economy. In conclusion, they appear as a more clean way to travel, helping out the Earth. The airplane was one of the most important inventions due to it creating jobs, creating easier cultural access, causes economic boosts, and created less pollution than most means of travel and also has an interesting history.
