Shaping knowledge is similar to reevaluating what a person may consider to be true. While this is neither a positive or negative thing, it impacts the progression of the world, in terms of societal cues, which is constantly reliant on continued shared knowledge among individuals. Shared knowledge shapes personal knowledge, and this is done by strengthening personal knowledge or by bringing its validity into question. This is dependent on the individual accepting knowledge. Some people may not have experienced a certain type of situation, so they would …show more content…
For example, scientists routinely use the Scientific Method, which was developed thousands of years ago, as a result of personal experiments which were shared. Technically, the Scientific Method is simply a constructive method of trial and error. Through variations within this method, new discoveries have been made which have ultimately shaped the personal knowledge of each individual scientist, as well as the general public. Furthermore, as these personal experiences have been shared throughout time with other individuals and the public, they have been transformed into shared knowledge. The treatment of asthma throughout the world and time is an example of how shared knowledge shapes personal knowledge (Crosta). Asthma’s unbiased nature has resulted in the disease affecting people of all ages and different backgrounds, which has resulted in several different treatment methods from around the world. In texts created as early as 460 BC, asthma was used as a medical term concerning the breathing of an individual. Initially, the goal of methods used throughout the world was to ultimately cure the disease. For example, in ancient Greece, owl blood was consumed as a treatment for asthma (Crosta). Ancient Egyptians were known to utilize camel and crocodile droppings as asthma treatment. One of the most ironic treatments was the use of smoke inhalation …show more content…
Discoveries have been made by individuals using the successes and failures of other individuals to shape their own knowledge and improve treatment methods. The differences among individuals with different religious backgrounds can also shape personal knowledge. Conflicts which lean toward a certain faith can tarnish that faith if people are not willing to fully comprehend the situation as well as the actual belief system. In order for shared knowledge to have any impact on personal knowledge, there must first be shared knowledge. People must be willing to share the personal knowledge which they have gained only from their personal experience. Once that knowledge is shared, people must then be willing to accept it, so consequently it can then shape their personal knowledge, which then will help the world continue to progress and
Our knowledge is a key to our success and happiness in our life to give us personal satisfaction. Knowledge is power but not always. Sometimes our self-awareness and growth as an individual gives us negative thoughts that make us want to go back to undo it. Everyone wants to unlearn a part in our life that brought us pain and problems. Good or bad experiences brought by true wisdom can be used for our self-acceptance, self-fulfillment and these experiences would make us stronger as we walk to the road of our so called “life”, but Douglas’s and my experience about knowledge confirmed his belief that “Knowledge is a curse”. Both of us felt frustrated and sad from learning knowledge.
The movie “PRECIOUS KNOWLEDGE” is about the state of Arizona banning ethnic studies. The movie’s main focus is on Tucson High school, specifically the class known as the Mexican American/Raza Studies. They learned about the honest truths about America along with their own culture. However, many politicians saw this class as un-American and “Stalinist”. This movie showed that the students became thriving adults because they were able to learn about their own cultures. During a political meeting, many politicians felt like this was an unnecessary class that was wasting their tax dollars. One law maker goes as far to say that if Mexican Americans want to learn about their culture, they should go back to Mexico. Many people saw these Mexican American students as lazy and disinterested. This is related to the “canary in the mind pit” analogy because

So to say, knowledge can either make or break a person. It can act as a benefit, for power, or loss, for ignorance. “Do not take for granted what you know. Ask yourself how you know what you know; ask yourself whom it benefits, whom it hurts and why.” (Blackboard: Knowledge is Power)
Asthma is chronic inflammatory disorder of the airways characterized by recurring episodes of wheeling and breathlessness. It often exists with allergies and can be worsened through exposure to allergens. In fact, asthma is complicated syndromes that have neither single definition nor complete explanation to the point. In light of its treatment, it is worthwhile to notice that asthma cannot be cured, instead can be only managed by avoiding exposure to allergens and/or by using medications regularly.
...pment. And because it does so, it is absolutely essential that as a collective, as a body, as a society, as a people, that a certain degree of understanding is found. That is so that individuals may have a better understanding of their internal, emotional and psychological processes as well as those of others. And with that, a mutual understanding of one another that helps to promote community and a better state of physical, mental, social and spiritual health.
Core knowledge is a psychological theory that proposes the idea that children have innate cognitive abilities that are the product of evolutionary mechanisms, called nativism. The theoretical approach of constructivism also includes that children have domain-specific learning mechanisms that efficiently collect additional information for those specific domains. The core knowledge theory is primarily focused on whether our cognitive abilities, or capacities, are palpable early on in development, or if these capacities come up during a later developmental phase (Siegler 168).
thinking comes from that and then in the long run more knowledge comes. It is a continuous cycle that never stops.
In healthcare organizations, medical staff must conform to their hospital and their country’s code of conduct. Not only do they have to meet set standards, they must also take their patient into consideration. When making a decision upon a patient, medical staff must recognize religious backgrounds and spiritual beliefs. By understanding a patients’ beliefs and their belief system, a medical worker can give the patient their deserved medical assistance without overstepping boundaries or coming off as offensive. The practices and beliefs of four religions will be articulated throughout this essay to fully understand how religion can either help or hinder the healing process.
Asthma is a disease that currently has no cure and can only be controlled and managed through different treatment methods. If asthma is treated well it can prevent the flare up of symptoms such as coughing, diminish the dependence on quick relief medication, and help to minimize asthma attacks. One of the key factors to successful treatment of asthma is the creation of an asthma action plan with the help of a doctor that outlines medications and other tasks to help control the patient’s asthma ("How Is Asthma Treated and Controlled?"). The amount of treatment changes based on the severity of the asthma when it is first diagnosed and may be the dosage may be increased or decreased depending on how under control the patient’s asthma is. One of the main ways that asthma can be controlled is by becoming aware of the things that trigger attacks. For instance staying away from allergens such as pollen, animal fur, and air pollution can help minimize and manage the symptoms associated with asthma. Also if it is not possible to avoid the allergens that cause a patient’s asthma to flare up, they may need to see an allergist. These health professionals can help diagnosis what may need to be done in other forms of treatment such as allergy shots that can help decrease the severity of the asthma ("How Is Asthma Treated and Controlled?").
Doctors, nurses and other providers are challenged on a daily basis in an attempt to consider and assimilate their patient’s different religious backgrounds and beliefs. The recent trends and strong indications of religious vitality and diversity present a pressing need to recognize various faith traditions in healthcare ethics (Reimer-Kirkham, Grypma, & Terblanche, 2013). Christianity and Buddhism, two of the most widely practiced religions today, bring their own viewpoints concerning healthcare. These religious beliefs may have similar ideas with regards to illness and healing. However, the differences in health practices and the approach to achieving optimal
...and communicate with each other. Very rarely do we solely rely on our own experiences and culture to validate something as knowledge. For instance, when someone writes a paper on the “biological behavior of bats”, do they simply rely on their experiences? No! While you may draw from your experiences of hiking in the woods, you would also draw upon the experiences of others. These other sources of experiences may be recorded in books, journals and videos or television shows. Or when we do a project on human psychology, you often interview many people on their experiences, rather than draw from what you, personally, might have experienced. This comes to show that, for anything to be objectively credible; you can never solely rely on your own experiences. However, once you start to draw from the experiences of others, you come much closer to gaining objective knowledge.
Coming to know the world is one thing that every human experiences. Knowing can occur at any time of ones life in five different ways; through personal experience, tradition, authority, religion, and science. No two people will have the same experiences which may result in disagreements that can not be resolved. Disagreements will exist for all ways of knowing excluding science. From a young age many of us will experience most ways of knowing.
People of the past have ascribed either to a scientific answer or to a theological belief to answer the questions they have. People pray to God for a cure to their disease, others visit a doctor or pharmacist. Nowadays people have become more liberal with their beliefs and where they look for answers. Priests go to the drugstore and scientists have been attending Sunday mass. The blending of the religions does not close doors and minds; it opens the mind to new interpretations of science and the Bible just the same. Harmony is being found, and questions that are more personal are being answered. It is truly something everyone can agree on.
