The second amendment is one of the more controversial amendments of the United States Constitution. The second amendment states, “A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.” I believe that all legal law-abiding citizens should be allowed carry a firearm anywhere in public without any discrimination. There are two common ways to carry a firearm in public. The first way is “open carry”. Open carry occurs when your firearm is clearly visible on your person. This can include having a firearm holstered on your hip, thigh or chest. Another form of carry is concealed carry. Concealed carry occurs when the firearm is not clearly visible. carriers tend to keep firearms covered by an extra layer of clothing such as a shirt or in their pocket. Currently there are laws that are in effect that dictate how or if someone can carry a firearm. Open carry is allowed in the state of Louisiana, but not in every state. Although open carry is legal by state statutes, carriers can be discriminated. If a carrier is at a place of business or on someone else’s property, they may be asked to leave by the owner. Some examples of this include movie theaters and restaurants. Carriers also are not allowed to possess a firearm while inside any federal buildings such as a post office, courthouse, or prison. Concealed carry is legal in the state of Louisiana, but not every state. In order to legally carry a concealed firearm you must obtain a concealed carry license. You must take a basic firearms handling course and be approved by your instructor to apply for a license. Then you fill out a form and attach a photo of yourself and send it to the ATF. If they approve you, they will send a license back in the mail. Concealed carriers also cannot carry inside of any federal buildings. However, they are less likely to be told to leave private property since their weapon is concealed. Allowing citizens to carry firearms across the country would be beneficial to the well-being of society.
Possessing a firearm during a violent crime can help stop the crime from escalating or causing more damage. The victim can effectively stop the crime either by wounding the attacker or by scaring them off while brandishing their firearm. This sort of valiant action can help reduce the citizen’s reliance on police intervention. This would help reduce the amount of pressure being placed on officers to stop crime. Gun owners can create a sense of security or peace of mind for themselves and others. Allowing more people to carry firearms would call for the need to educate all citizens about firearm safety and handling. Even if someone’s personal beliefs restrict them from owning a firearm, they would at least know how to properly handle one to prevent self-harm. I believe that open carry and concealed carry should be allowed in every state. All law abiding citizens should not be denied service or asked to leave a place of business because they are seen as a threat to public safety. These people should be seen as our guardians because they will have a faster response time in most situations than any law enforcement available. Before someone is allowed to carry a firearm I think that they should have to undergo proper training to make them more effective with their weapon and more importantly to put safety

The United State of America, established by the Founding Father who lead the American Revolution, accomplished many hardship in order to construct what America is today. As history established America’s future, the suffering the United State encountered through history illustrate America’s ability to identify mistakes and make changes to prevent the predictable. The 2nd Amendment was written by the Founding Father who had their rights to bear arms revoked when they believe rising up to their government was appropriate. The Twentieth Century, American’s are divided on the 2nd Amendment rights, “The right to bear arms.” To understand why the Founding Father written this Amendment, investigating the histories and current measures may help the American people gain a better understanding of gun’s rights in today’s America.
On December 15, 1791, the Bill of Rights was ratified effective by Congress. These first ten amendments to the Constitution of the United States of America promised the states certain rights and freedoms which could not be infringed by the government. After all, the founding fathers knew from experience that men in their weakness were often tempted by power. They had become all too familiar with this when under the control of King George in England. Therefore, in order to protect the future people of their beautiful country, they promised certain liberties which could not be taken away. Every single one of these freedoms is important for the United States of America. However, the second amendment is especially important to our nation because it allows the people to protect their freedom and defend themselves and the common good against an overreaching government.
The Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution states "a well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.
For hundreds of years Americans have been growing up with the notion that it is a right to own a gun. Since the creation of the second amendment, people all over the United States have been able to guns for private use. Guns operated by the public are said to have a variety of uses such as, being able to protect oneself if conflict arises, grants the ability to put food on the table, and are used in competitions shooting targets against other people. But for many people guns have been seen as the root of all evil. Anti-gun users think that guns cause a variety of unexpected and innocent deaths. They also think that there are not enough laws in place that allow just about anyone to purchase a gun. The question of should guns be legal to all citizens has plagued our society. Do you think it is morally right for anyone to arm themselves and use it when they deem it to be necessary? Or do you think that the 2rd amendment seem unnecessary and outdated law that needs to be rewritten? These questions are just two of many that have thrown back and forth between pro-gun and anti-gun users.
The Second Amendment states, “A well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.” This statement basically means that people should be able to own guns for their own security and that right should not be taken away. The Second Amendment was added to the Constitution because the creators of the Constitution wanted to make sure that it protected basic rights, including the right to bear arms. It was also added to the Constitution because shortly after it was ratified, James Madison wanted to give more power to the state militia and to give more power to the people to give them the ability to fight back against the Federalists and the tyrannical government they were creating. After fighting off the British, the Second Amendment was created to give citizens the opportunity to fight back against controlling government and protect themselves with their own weapons.
The second amendment states “A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.” The Founding Fathers included this in the Bill of Rights because they feared the Federal Government might oppress the population if the people did not have the means to defend themselves as a nation or individuals.
This is caused because the more guns there, are the less violence there is. Dangerous criminals will think twice about robbing someone that has a gun. A victim with a gun is no longer a victim because they can not fight back against the attacker. Therefore, they can save their lives and save lives of the public which need help at that moment. Lott states, “The estimated annual gain from 1992 from allowing concealed handguns was over $5.74 billion” (House Report). This states that when a decline in violence goes down the amount of money goes up. Concealed guns can only benefit everyone in multiple ways. Concealed weapons can help create the feeling of safety and reduce violence. No one wants to live in
According to John Lott, PhD, the Founder and President of the Crime Prevention Research Center, states that had concealed carry laws had reduced murders by 8.5%, rapes by 5%, aggravated assaults by 7%, and robbery by 3%. With many people having concealed guns, it is surprising that there are still controversies on whether or not having concealed guns will help people feel safer. People who have concealed guns are able to feel better able to protect themselves if a crime were to happen. If someone were to walk around at night or in a dangerous place they would feel better knowing that if something were to happen they could protect themselves against it. Say that someone walked into a public building and tried to harm you or your family members.
A person who legally owns a firearm should be allowed a means to protect him or herself at any time in any place. Firearms serve an important part in American society. They keep governments in check, they ward off some other citizens with hostile intentions, and they serve as a reminder that each one of us has the right and duty to protect the nation from our own government if necessary. Denying a person access to their lawful firearm is effectively giving ultimate power to government with absolutely no checks or balances from the people. Firstly I would like to address the issue of the National Government refusing aid to the local and state governments of my state. I understand that the 10th Amendment prohibits the National Government from taking control of the State or Local Governments without their consent, however the unspoken side is that the National Government has a responsibility to protect and care for its States and Citizens in circumstances that involve large portions of the state or nation and not just one or two
In 2015, over 13,000 people in the United States were killed by firearms. These events happen because people are told that it's okay to carry a loaded gun. Some people say that being able to carry a gun should be permitted, but should it really? When you walk down the street, people will see your firearm and suddenly become frightened of you. “Open carry is an invitation to chaos.” , Constance Johnson.
A concealed carry is the practice of carrying a concealed firearm on one's person in public. many people believe that concealed carry's should be allowed because they allow people to prevent crimes in the act without need for anyone else. Concealed carry's also allow people to protect themselves from home burglaries or animal attacks. Concealed carry should be permitted in the United States because it allows people to deter crimes and protect themselves from animals and other humans.
Concealed carry is a very sensitive and controversial topic in the United States today. On one hand you have the pro or people that are for the concealed carry of weapons. Most people on this side of the argument use laws like “shall-issue” or “may-issue”. The “shall-issue” concealed carry law is a law that allows anyone that meets or exceeds the certifications and requirements, to receive a concealed carry permit. The “may-issue” law is a law that allows states to let another party such as law enforcement to administer permits to citizens on a case-to-case basis, as long as citizens meet the certifications and requirements. Another less common law that only a few states have is a free carry law. This law allows any eligible citizen to carry a concealed weapon, there are different laws for gun ownership in these states. Some states that have this law are Alaska and Arizona. On the other side of the argument there is the people who are against the concealed carry of weapons. These citizens think that the law will allow crazy people to carry weapons. They think that it will create a bunch of vigilantes. These citizens believe that we will be thrown back into the days of the wild west. Both sides mak...
Responsible citizens should have the right to carry a concealed handgun and to arm themselves against criminals with guns. Concealed handguns have a sense of security and safety. It’s found that many police offers support the concealed carry of guns by civilians. Concealed handguns protect people who cannot always rely on police forces for protection. It takes awhile for a police officer to come, and even if they do police officers have no legal duty to protect citizens from violent
Citizens practice this daily, we’re allowed to say what we want to say because of this amendment. That being said, this also opens up a lot of controversy within the judicial system only because there is so many ways to interpret this amendment. The second amendment states “A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.” This amendment is also another controversy constantly brought up today. The debate towards this constitution varies from regular citizens to even the state senates. The amendment states that the citizens of the United States has the right to bear arms; simply put, they are allowed to have personal firearms. However, there are only certain states that allow the people to be licensed a firearm for protection. This is what the controversy revolves around. Many think that people having no personal firearm would be better for the community and many beg to
All states should be able to have a permit and a license to own and purchase a gun. The government should be able to have a permit and a license to own a purchase a gun. This will help improve the community by making restriction for a person before owning a gun. The government should be able to search a background check on a person to be allowed owning a gun. Allowing all states to make a background check, having a permit, and license will restrict less gun in the community. Restrictions on guns will limit the amount of firearms in the community. Police are qualified to carry a gun for protection of the community. They learned and trained to use a gun in various situations. In the essay we read in class "Just Take Away Their Guns" written by James Wilson, he highlights the social, political, and law concerning with carrying a gun. According to his essay, he reflects that it is the responsibility of police and law enforcement agencies to maintain law and order to protect the community. On page 126 he says, "Our goal should not be the disarming of law-abiding citizens. It should be to reduce the number of people who carry guns unlawfully, especially in places- on streets, in taverns- where the mere presence of a gun can increase the hazard we all face. The most effective way to reduce illegal gun carrying is to encourage the police to take guns away from people who carry them without
