Lately every college student has been walking around talking about going to a party and turning up. Without knowing that college parties can be dangerous, one out of five girls will get raped or one out of five students will be drugged at a college party. That's two out of ten students getting hurt. That's not the only reason college parties are dangerous; they can lead to criminal activity, health concerns, and dropping out. College parties sound fun but they are really dangerous.
College parties can most dangerous for girls, because most rapes that happen are females and most of these females are raped at a college party. It has been proven (www.washintonpost.com/blogs/local/wp/2014/12/03/one-in-five-girls-will-be-raped-in-college-eight-steps-parents-can-take-to-change-that/) that one out of five girls will be raped in college, especially at a frat party. You might say that won't be me, but if you're a freshman or an incoming freshman you're most likely to be raped by the end of the year. It's was proven as of 2015 (college.usatoday.com/2015/02/27/study-college-freshman-at-high-risk-for-rape/) out of 483 women, 18.6% of women said instances of attempted

raped began when they started living on the college campus. Even if you're with friends, there is still a chance that you will get raped, just like it happened to a girl who attended Florida Atlantic university.(www.pdf.com/news/college-student-raped-at-party-after-step-show/32892034) You might say this is not going to happen to me, or anyone I know I'm be fine. I personally know someone who's been down that road. I had a family friend who went to CSUP. She was invited to college party, She was just like every other girl thinking i'm be fine that's not going to happen to me, I know how to handle myself, and I know to go to parties with a groups of friends. That not always to protracted you from getting raped and now she knows that. She went a college with a couple of friends and at the party they was dancing with people they was close enough to look at each other to make sure each of them was safe and wasn't doing anything they wasn't suppose to do but when my family friend seen the person that invited her to the party, she went to talk to him and thank him for inviting her and her friends but he could't hear her so the moved moved closer to where the rooms where he can hear her and when the was talking he graded her and put her a room and raped her no one could hear her because the music was to loud but time her friends notice she was missing it was to late, it was already happening her friends found her couple minutes later but the damaged was already done. She's fine now even graduated college but now she knows that things happen that sometime can't be control. Even if your a guy saying will i'm not going to get raped at a party, or a girl who does getting raped hopefully you don't.

When you are a senior in high school your main focus is finishing your college applications and if your a girl of course prom, you don't realize you are a year away from entering college and the world of "rape culture". It is said that rape culture exists because we don't believe it does. Rape culture is defined as "an environment in which rape is prevalent and in which sexual violence against women is normalized and excused in the media and popular culture. " We already have an idea that in colleges where sports are glorified that some professors will allow athletes to get away with numerous things from cheating to missing numerous classes, but fraternity events can be high risk for rape. First I will summarize "Fraternities and Collegiate Rape Culture: Why Are Some Fraternities More Dangerous Places for Women?" written by A. Ayres Boswell and Joan Z. Space.
During her freshman year at Northeastern University, 19-year-old Jennifer Grant* thought college was just about doing minimal homework, going to parties, and meeting new people. She looked forward to every weekend when she was invited to parties with upperclassmen. Sadly, her world fell apart when she was raped by another student who was an acquaintance. Scared and confused from the experience, she turned to her friends for help.
...them when they take just one drink of alcohol, even if it is just one shot or one beer, it affect you. Most college student drink to socialize and that is not a good thing to do. When a students, or anyone, drink to be social there are more likely to have more then what they intended. Alcohol will affect the way that students think, feel, act, and socialize with others. Drink is a dangers action to participate in but that is a choice that one needs to make on their own. It is always fun at the time, but at that same time one does not think that they are permanently arming to their bodies. Whether children and teens drink 15,25 or even 30 percent of the alcohol consumed, the reality is that America has an underage drinking epidemic and alcohol is by far the drug most used by children and teens and poses the greatest threat to their well-being” (Underage, CNN.com pg2).
College student drunkenness is far from new and neither are college and university efforts to control it. What is new, however, is the potential to make real progress on this age-old problem based on scientific research results. New research-based information about the consequences of high-risk college drinking and how to reduce it can empower colleges and universities, communities, and other interested organizations to take effective action. Hazardous drinking among college students is a widespread problem that occurs on campuses of all sizes and geographic locations. A recent survey of college students conducted by the Harvard University School of Public Health reported that 44 percent of respondents had drunk more than five drinks (four for women) consecutively in the previous two weeks. About 23 percent had had three or more such episodes during that time. The causes of this problem are the fact that students are living by themselves no longer with parents or guardians; they earn their own money; students need to be a part of a group, be accepted; and they have the wrong idea that to feel drunk is “cool.”
The majority of sexual assaults are committed against women between the ages of 15 and 25, making college-aged women the group with the highest vulnerability to being assaulted. In fact, according to Kelly Walker from campusspeak.com, and a sexual assault survivor, one in four women will be raped during their college experience. Furthermore, during one’s freshman year, they are at the highest risk time for assault, according to the Northeastern University Police Department.
Many temptations are faced in college culture and one of them is underage drinking and driving. Underage drinking and driving has essentially become an epidemic, rapidly developing among today’s youth. College culture has come to encourage drinking and driving through the places and people that surround the students (National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, October 2002). Some people don’t see underage drinking as an issue, when in fact it is a huge issue that every teenager will face. Since underage drinking is illegal people want to rebel by drinking; additionally, alcohol is really easy to get ahold of in college. Since many students are going to drink, the first line of defense is to educate students about the effects of alcohol and what can happen if students do drink and drive. Unless we are able to put a stop to underage drinking and driving through education, and a system called smart start the problem wont get any better.
... assaulted by classmates while drinking, 100,000 students are victims of sexual assaults and rapes involving alcohol (Roleff 44). (FAS) Although some experts believe drinking small amounts of alcohol is good for the body, the negative effects far outweigh the positives. Based on the evidence, alcohol should be an illegal drug.
Not only in the US, Many countries around the world have the same problem in college campuses. Like many European countries, college drinking has been developed into kind of traditional culture in the US and she has been facing the change of the culture of drinking at colleges. However, other than the damage and injuries that happen during semester break each year, the only consequences of college drinking that usually come to the public's attention are occasional student deaths from alcohol overuse, such as alcohol poisoning or other alcohol-related tragedies. (Ramaley) In fact, the consequences of college drinking are much more than occasional and normal. According to the studies, 1,825 college students who aged from 18 to24 died from alcohol-related inadvertent injuries, including car crashes, while 599,000 students are unintentionally hurt over the influence of alcohol (Hingson et al., 2009). College drinking also results in serious injuries, assaults, sexual abuse and other health and academic problems. The impacts of excessive college drinking are more widespread and destructive than most people realize. Therefore, this essay will first consider the pr...
1 in 5 women will get sexual assaulted on a college campus. This is absolutely sickening and needs to be taking care of before it gets out of hand. The more and more I have a conversation about sexual assault the more it makes me want to take charge and do something about it. Now that I have the information from listening to our speaker, I defiantly see college parties in a different light. I always see guys trying to take girls back to their room or isolating them from the group. Whenever I’m at a party, I never think of the awful things that could be happening around me. I definitely unaware of situations so now I’ll defiantly be more involved and step in when it’s appropriate. It’s a very common thing to see at a party so for myself I never
Insecurity is another incentive to why students binge drink. Drinking alcohol has been a large part of society for many years. People find that it is easier to meet people when they have been drinking. Drinking has also been used as a way to get close to some one. There are also many social events drinking has created. There are cozy bars “where every body knows your name,” cocktail parties, and the high school favorite, house party.
In recent studies by U.S News and World Report, college campuses are turning off the tap. In other words banning alcohol entirely. One of the reasons for the banning of alcohol on campus is due to the outstanding reports of alcohol related incidents that have taken the lives of students. September of 97’, Scott Krueger, and eighteen-year-old freshman at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, died from alcohol poisoning while at a Phi Gamma Delta initiation event.(Reisberg, 1) The lack of action taken by MIT caused the students’ parents to sue them for their irresponsibility.(Reisberg, 2) Another accident that occurred due to alcohol was to a twenty-year-old Louisiana State University student named Benjamin Wynne. Wynne had apparen...
lead to underage drinking as well. Here at UWEC, it is easy to find a party
West Hills College Coalinga has 29 percent of its students aged nineteen 1 and under a lack of places of amusement. With little else to do, these students turn to parties and illegal substances. A combination of this and poor time management causes students to get behind in their studies, perform poorly in sports activities, adds the risk of overdosing, and increasing impulsive behavior. “People 18-25 make up twenty percent of the population that use illegal drugs.”(Carl, p. 159) “In 2009, the National Institute on Drug Abuse did a study and found that 25 percent of high school seniors had been binge drinking in the past two weeks of study.” (Carl, p. 160) The amount of students who exhibit this pattern of underage drinking take it to college and that number increases in college due to reduced rules caused by little to no parental supervision. The pattern of binge drinking in college is viewed as a necessary rite of passage and brings with it unnecessary risks like alcohol poisoning and a greater chance of personal injury due to inebriation.
Although this may be true, some people will still argue that alcoholic drinks are not always a bad thing, especially if you are a teenager that wants to experience a little bit of danger and living to the fullest, as the Americans say live wild and free. Most of the new students in college feel that they are free from their parents; they can do anything want to do without worrying about the watchful eyes of their parents. The feelings of excitement that drive teenagers to try new things and experiment, for example drinking alcohol. Nowadays young people often ...
Alcohol is a very serious and dangerous drug, although it is not treated this way anymore. College students have taken drinking to a new level, which, for many, is very scary. Alcohol is much more dangerous than many would think. Kids see a night of drinking as a great way to have fun and party, but do not see the consequences. Getting drunk and even blacking out can lead to many problems.
