INTRODUCTION Faigley (1992) provided a good description of postmodernism when he provided the description that: “There is nothing outside contingent discourses to which a discourse of values can be grounded—no eternal truths, no universal human experience, no universal human rights, no overriding narrative of human progress. This assumption carries many radical implications. The foundational concepts associated with artistic judgment such as “universal value” and “intrinsic merit,” with science such as “truth” and “objectivity,” and with ethics and law such as “rights” and “freedoms” suddenly have no meaning outside of particular discourse and are deeply involved in the qualities they are alleged to be describing objectively’’ (Faigley 1992, p. 8). The basic precepts contained in the traditional universal theories are being challenged by the views of the postmodern ethics and in particular consequential and deontology. The overall movement of postmodern has a significant component that mainly questions the modernistic organizations traditions which had originated in the enlightenment age in Europe during the later Renaissance duration of 18th and 19th centuries. Human ideas were developed along the science philosophy lines leading to the encroachment of the rationalistic movement in line with the philosophical thought. The scientific/philosophical trends for instance empiricism, rationalism, mechanism, communicative rationality and positivism through the various trends of management like Fordism and scientific management have significantly been components of the movement of modernistic enlightenment and the rationality, the pursuit of knowledge, universality and rationality have been the main philosophical thoughts drivers. Therefore the postmodern perspective should not be dismissed on the view of its inherent flaws rather its contributions should also be considered.

As the theme of my essay I have chosen to find out what our contemporary society must not forget in order to be able to make organizational theory evolve well into the 21st century. For this task I have decided to take a look back to Aldous Huxley’s modern dystopia “Brave new world”, that warned against totalitarian regimes that intended to suppress individuality in order to advance the interest of the state in its time. Even as those regimes might not be a direct threat nowadays we can eerily conclude that some aspects of it are quite accurate for the times we live in. According to Phillip Yancey who suggested that “there is a much more subtle enemy inchoate within each of us - a natural tendency for people to trade autonomy for comfort, safety and amusement.” This for the most people does not set off alarms but I will argue that it is the most basic requirement that has to be met in our day and age in order to tackle the wide range of issues that we face at the crossroads leading to the future, whether we talk about humanity or organizational theory itself. I think the novel gives us the perfect opportunity to draw parallels with our contemporary society, and see what must be corrected within post modernity based on how things evolved over the course of history and from prophetical books like Huxley’s even as at his time it was only intended to be satire. In the World State people are controlled by technologies like genetic engineering, sleep-learning and drugs like soma to satisfy needs and gently induce masses to enjoy their servitude. With the end of colonialism and the emergence of a seemingly new world order, there raised a demand that research be useful and relevant, indicating that knowledge for its own sake was insufficient. As a result of this, what emerged was a new focus on 'development' and 'modernization' in the form of postmodernism. In these changing times, anthropology has come into contact with a variety of evolving concepts, including hybridity, montage, fluidity, and deconstruction. The question remains, how these concepts reflect the social, cultural and political changes that are occurring in study of anthropology today.
Based on this creator-centric definition, one may claim that art is purely a form of individual expression, and therefore creation of art should not be hindered by ethical consideration. Ethics is the study of moral values and the principles we use to evaluate actions. Ethical concerns can sometimes stand as a barrier to the development of the arts and the natural sciences. They hinder the process of scientific research and the production of art, preventing us from arriving at knowledge. This raises the knowledge issues of: To what extent do moral values confine the production of knowledge in the arts, and to what extent are the ways of achieving scientific development limited due to ethical concerns? The two main ways of knowing used to produce ethical judgements are reason, the power of the mind to form judgements logically , and emotion, our instinctive feelings . I will explore their applications in various ethical controversies in science and arts as well as the implications of morals in these two areas of knowledge.
Being a theory that developed in the late 1960’s postmodernism is catered closest to recent civilianization by focusing on main areas that are believed to impact human interaction and divine purpose. In the beginning layers of the concept it is associated with have two levels to its theory manifest image, and scientific image.
As the gears of American society turned ever forward, a new ideology in literature-known as Modernism-shifted authors of the time to create different works that reflected the new ideas that it encompassed. America, in the course of 70 years, had turned from a bunch of rebellious farmers into one of the largest and most powerful nations in the world. As the “American Century” of the 1900s went on by, new technological achievements in radio, television and health care helped to change the ideals and even mindsets of writers everywhere. Despite all of this success, many people viewed all of this rapid change in a negative way spurring a new type of thinking that would develop into Modernism. One such person that was influenced by the advent of modern society was Arthur Miller, a struggling playwright who would go on to write some of the best dramas since Shakespeare himself and become a legend while doing it. Through the literary criticism of Christopher Bigsby, Harold Clurman and anonymous, it becomes clear how the ideals an points of Modernism are reflected in the masterpieces that are the plays of Arthur Miller.
