Summary
The reason enthusiasts overclock their hardware is to increase the performance of their computers. The trade-offs when overclocking are an increase in power consumption and fan noise because of the increased voltage which leads to hotter operating temperatures. Underclocking is the opposite of Overclocking which gives you a slower operation speed to reduce power consumption and temperature, as well as cooling requirements. Computer components that are usually overclocked in the overclocking community include processors (CPU), video cards (GPU) and RAM.
Aim and purpose
The purpose of this mini project is to learn how to increase the performance of my computer without spending too much money on complicated cooling, and finding out my max overclock. Some questions I plan to handle are:
• Which settings will I need to change.
• What overclocking will cost
• How big of a performance gain I will get in my case
Method
To learn how to overclock a CPU I read up on the overclocking scene and about the different terms. After acquiring some knowledge I followed a guide step by step that I found on overclock.net, I practicing and using this guide. I started up my computer, and changed the settings in the Ai Tweaker by entering the bios when starting the computer. I did this by simply clicking the F2 button while the computer was booting(starting), then I followed their step by step guide and changed my settings to these.
Theoretical background
Processor
The processor, also called CPU (Central Processing Unit), is the brain of your computer, this is the most popular component to overclock because of the gains in performance. It is the component that handles most of the calculations the computer has to do. The Cpu operates at speeds...

Costs
I had a total cost of 600SEK for a compact water cooling system produced by corsair that was needed to lower the operating temperature to a safe level.
Performance gains
After 2 hours spent configurating the settings what I achieved with help from the Swedish and British forums, with my specific CPU I was able to gain a 29% increase in performance, with a 0.4 VCore increase to 1.32 volts and standard being 1.28 volts. And a x48 multiplier achieving a max overclock of 4800 Mhz (4.8Ghz) standard being 3700Mhz (3.7Ghz).

The purpose of this experiment is to compare the effects of three variables, air flow rate, air temperature, and water flow rate, on cooling ability of a slatted, counter-current cooling tower. Additionally, the three variables will be compared based on the closure of a water mass balance and energy balance of the cooling tower.
Choosing which motherboard to use is important. It also is closely related to what processor is chosen. Because of cost saving factors, the AMD Athlon processor is the best choice. Therefore we can only provide a motherboard compatible with the AMD AthlonXP 1900. For our client, we decided on the motherboard Aopen K77-333. This motherboard is an excellent choice for our client because:
The motherboard is the main circuit board of a microcomputer. The motherboard contains the connectors for attaching additional boards. Typically, the motherboard contains the CPU, BIOS, memory, mass storage interfaces, serial and parallel ports, expansion slots, and all the controllers required to control standard peripheral devices, such as the display screen, keyboard, and disk drive. Collectively, all these chips that reside on the motherboard are known as the motherboard's chipset. On most PCs, it is possible to add memory chips directly to the motherboard. You may also be able to upgrade to a faster CP by replacing the CPU chip. To add additional core features, you may need to replace the motherboard entirely. (Glossary)
People are always looking for ways to save money. By using “Green” computer components you can save money and energy. Everyone having a computer powered on days at a time can use up a lot of energy, which will lead to a large energy bill. There is a lot of different ways to adapt your computer to be more energy efficient. Using more energy efficient computer components and changing settings in your operating system will save you big. By purchasing more energy efficient components such as processors, hard drives and computer monitors you can make your computer consume less power thus saving energy.
We have the microprocessor to thank for all of our consumer electronic devices, because without them, our devices would be much larger. Microprocessors are the feat of generations of research and development. Microprocessors were invented in 1972 by Intel Corporation and have made it so that computers could shrink to the sizes we know today. Before, computers took a room because the transistors or vacuum tubes were individual components. Microprocessors unified the technology on one chip while reducing the costs. Microprocessor technology has been the most important revolution in the computer industry in the past forty years, as microprocessors have allowed our consumer electronics to exist.
It’s prime role is to process data with speed once it has received instruction. A microprocessor is generally advertised by the speed of the microprocessor in gigahertz. Some of the most popular chips are known as the Pentium or Intel-Core. When purchasing a computer, the microprocessor is one of the main essentials to review before selecting your computer. The faster the microprocessor, the faster your data will process, when navigating through the software.
Its Fourth-generation quad-core Intel Core i7 processor is remarkable for good performance and visuals. It enables the user to feel and see in high definition and 3D; and gives room for multitasking and media. The thrilling speeds are modeled for smooth and seamless games, photos and movies. The chip has a transistor count of 1.4 billion and a die size that is 177 square millimeters. Additionally, it has an incorporated processor graphics, and a dual-channel DDR3 support of up to 1600MHz (Williams & Sawyer, 2010).
Before 20th century, most efforts were ineffective and people tried many things to provide the comfort of cool, till Leonardo Da Vince designed a mechanical fan and it was used in industrial settings. Then, an engineer named Stuart Cramer, he likes the idea of the latest system of controlling the heat and humidity and he improved it and called it “air conditioning” in 1906. One year later, air-conditioning equipment designed by Witten Meier was installed in movie theatres and hotels. And in 1927, General Electric introduces the first refrigerator to be mass-produced with a completely sealed refrigerating system and it was one of a kind. In 1927, these improvements continued to progress and engineers completed doing researches and they developed air-conditioning and refrigerating to consume a less amount of energy.
So in order to give the CPU a break and help it run more efficiently, a Graphic card can be used to process the graphics portion of the processing load. Because most of today's programs are graphically oriented, the video card can help almost any program run more efficiently.
