Being on the frontlines means war, bloodshed, and even death. The men and women of our military sacrifice so much, sometimes even life, for our safety and freedom. Operation Homefront is a unique organization that allows us to give back to these brave soldiers and their families and help them out in rough times. Operation Homefront, a charity for military families, is a good charity that you should donate to because it helps the military families in need, it recognizes the people that serve our country, and it helps those recover from the military.

homefront website, they talked about Operation Home Repair, which is an opportunity for the men and women in the services to have materials donated to them for their housing repair and needs in housing (Home repair). Also, Operation homefront offers home items such as refrigerators, stoves, box springs or mattresses, washers and dryers, to the recovering or deployed family members of service people (Essential home repair). These examples are just some of the ways to help the soldiers who give so much and how we can help them by giving back. This organization doesn’t just give back they also reach out and recognize service people and their families. The unique thing about this organization is that it recognizes not only the servicemen and women but also, their children that have to live with one of their parents gone for a long period of time.
Each year the organization recognizes children that “..have had at least one parent deploy for eighteen months or longer and have relocated at least five times due to a parent’s military assignments.” (Operation Homefront Seeks Military Child of the Year Nominations). This recognizes the children that have to go through rough times while their parents are gone for a long period of time and gives them some reward for staying strong during the rough times. The charity gives veterans their opportunities to talk about their stories and helps them to recognize them and their stories they have about war and being on the battlefield. One project “.. run by the Air Force Public Affairs Agency, is in its sixth year and has told 144 Air Force veterans’ stories.” (Veterans in Blue) . This gives the opportunity for veterans to speak out and be able to hear others stories who may have been in the same situations. Another way the organization helps the servicemen and women is they help them recover from
war. This service organization has set up many free assisted living homes for the military veterans to recover at cost-free and focus on getting better. “Operation Homefront's Transitional Housing Program allows these service members to live rent free while they go through the transition process”(Event charity) this can help the men and women get better while they do not have to worry about the cost building up and finding a way to pay their bills while recovering. Also, the organization helps the service men and women by “The Southeast Field Office serves the families of 166,000 Active Duty and over 80,000 National Guard and Reserve living in Alabama, Florida and Georgia.” (Event charity). This service helps the men and women and their families by if they are going through rough times they can get help from the Southeast Field Office. Tho it would be beneficial to donating to this great organization, there is some downfalls to where you may think your money is going and why you should choose this organization rather than another organization. You may ask why someone should donate to this organization. However, this is a unique organization because it gives back to the men and women that give so much so we can still be free today. You may have downfall on where your money is going. This can be solved by on the organization's website again, they tell you “The Southeast Field Office serves the families of 166,000 Active Duty and over 80,000 National Guard and Reserve living in Alabama, Florida and Georgia.” (Event charity). Even if you have a downfall as to not having extra money laying around you can still help out. You can help out by helping out at events Operation Homefront hosts such as holiday meals or other events they may host. Overall, Operation Homefront, is a good charity that you should donate money or time to because it helps the military families in need, it recognizes the people that serve our country, and it helps those recover from the military. You should donate to this organization because it gives back to the people that put their lives on the line willing to risk it all so you can live a happy life.
The mission statement of the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) is, “To fulfill President Lincoln's promise ‘To care for him who shall have borne the battle, and for his widow, and his orphan’ by serving and honoring the men and women who are America’s vete...
War is what keeps a nation from dying, it is the backbone of a country. This is the shown throughout the course of World War I, also known as “the war to end all wars.” World War I started in the summer of 1914. Archduke Francis Ferdinand, from the Austro – Hungarian Empire was visiting Bosnia. He was shot, along with his wife, Sofia, by a young man from the Black Hand, Gavrillo Princip. What were the three main factors that started World War I? There were three main underlying causes that started World War I: greed, nationalism, and militarism.
While soldiers are away from home, many things might change that they aren’t there for, for example, family problems and disasters. In addition, veterans might come home to a whole different world than when they left, and this already makes their lives more challenging to go with these changes. In addition, soldiers might also come back with physical injuries, like a lost limb, or loss of hearing. As a result, this makes everyday tasks much harder than they actually are. Veterans also might be mentally scarred from war. For example, a mental disorder called post traumatic stress disorder, makes life for the veteran and family much
World War II was one of the most important wars in history. It featured multiple countries at constant conflict with each other. There were several battles that occurred in this 12 year long war. An example of two of the battles would be the Battle of Britain in the European theater of war, and the Attack on Pearl Harbor in the Pacific theater of war. Only one of these wars saw victory, while the other caused great devastation to the American military.
It was once assumed that the government would provide services for veterans, but nonprofit organizations and communities have been picking up the slack to help veterans get back on their feet after returning home. The government is dependent on nonprofit organizations to supply veterans and their families with the necessary goods and services. The Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) is an organization that provides services for veterans and their families. The WWP focuses on mind, body, economic empowerment, and engagement, all things that help veterans through post-war symptoms (The Wounded Warrior Project). The government is recommending giving less housing allowances, limiting pay raises, and having higher fees for health care benefits; other cuts would include stores being unable to give discounts to military families (Nissenbaum and Barnes). The amount of money veterans receive for housing, health care, and retirement is being cut left and right by the government and the money is being used and put towards other departments. In California, The County Veterans Service Officers Inc. plays a very important role in verterans’ lives (California Association of County Veterans Service Officers, Inc.) Many organizations help veterans who are in need of services because our government is not always able to provide...
They are much like shelters for other specific causes, however, this one is very much dedicated to helping veterans get back into the swing of an ordinary life. Veteran homeless shelters provide many things. One of the many things would be health benefits. According to the US Department of Veteran Affairs, “A person who served in the active military, naval, or air service and who was discharged or released under conditions other than dishonorable may qualify for VA health care benefits.” (2015) Another thing that these organizations do is help homeless veterans become more social among each other as well as provide them with hot meals, a place to sleep, shower, and a new pair of clothes. Places like the homeless shelters for homeless veterans even help them get a job and get their life back in order before they were
We are now ten years into the Afghanistan War and eight years into the Iraq War. Since at least 15 percent of the nearly 1 million vets from both wars met the screening criteria for PTSD, as a nation we must prepare for a surge in their homelessness numbers. (1) Therefore, to show my gratitude for those veterans who signed that blank check, I would use the $150,000 just acquired to purchase a distressed property and address the problem of homelessness among our military veterans.
As men and women serve this country we often forget the importance of what they did and how we give back to them for what they have experienced. Through student surveys that have been gathered, it has been proven in the course of knowledge that 80% of all thirty students surveyed that say they know of someone who is or was a veteran and only 57% of those Veterans receive help. Richelle E. Goodrich stated, “Have you ever stopped to ponder the amount of blood spilt, the volume of tears shed, the degree of pain and anguish endured, the number of noble men a...
Andy grew up as a military child and he assures, “Being in a military family I can appreciate the veterans and their families more.” (Moore) Military children recognize the importance of sacrificial service that their parent committed. This ensures parents that raising a child in the military can help develop an appreciative, respectful, and prideful child by experiencing and interacting within the military lifestyle. The military provides a strong structure or values and traits that promote a healthy development of characteristics for
In 2007 two Washington Post reporters spent four months visiting Walter Reed hospital’s outpatient world known as building 18. The conditions were bad, floors rotted through, stained carpet, mouse droppings, cheap mattresses and the smell of cheap takeout in the air. This is how our veterans lived. They received premier medical treatment, saving their lives. So they could get lost in the paperwork. The outpatient process was lacking to say the least. These soldiers came from a war zone to a chaotic scene where soldiers with traumatic brain injuries and PTSD were supposed to be in charge of soldiers at risk of suicide. The staff was unqualified or disconnected. They had to fill out paperwork for multiple commands and keep up with appointments, while they couldn’t even remember their way around the hospital. They had pay issues and trouble feeding their families. Vera Heron spent 15 frustrating months living on post to help care for her son. "It just absolutely took forever to get anything done," Heron said. "They do the paperwork, they lose the paperwork. Then they have to redo the paperwork. You are talking about guys and girls whose lives are disrupted for the rest of their lives, and they don't put any priority on it (Priest & Hull, 2007)."
... a Board of Directors and an Executive Committee. The Disabled American Veterans plans to provide health care, transportation, unique rehabilitation, and get the veterans a voice on Capital Hill. Both disabled American veterans and the families of the American veterans can receive help from the DAV. Volunteering is a big part of the funding of the DAV, and the volunteers can be nominated for the Jesse Brown Memorial Youth Scholarship. The Disabled American Veterans is partners with many other places to provide special events for the veterans like at Golden Corral give veterans free meals on Military Appreciation Mondays. Another way the DAV gets funding is through donates from people. With all the help the DAV gives to veterans, the DAV makes day to day life easier for the veterans. Of the five million disabled veterans, the DAV provides help to the veterans.
“The last American soldier left Vietnam during the fall of Saigon on April 30, 1975. For 2.4 million who served in Vietnam, there was no official homecoming. In June of 2005, Branson, Missouri held “Operation Welcome Home” for Vietnam Veterans. The parade and events were planned to provide the celebration and recognition they did not receive 30-plus years earlier.” (Vietnam: Homecoming) The veterans were able to see the Traveling Vietnam Memorial Wall and find the names of men they had known they had dies while serving. These veterans met with men they had formerly served with. Although this event was only a fraction of the welcome the soldiers truly deserved, many veterans were very appreciative of this. “Branson gave me closure to a book that has been kept open for 37 years.” (Crowe) For decades, Vietnam veterans had not been appreciated for their service to the United States. This experience allowed them to begin to heal the wounds that had been open for decades, due to the horrendous things they saw in battle and the lack of appreciation by the American people as a whole.
The United States has been involved in many wars since its inception. WWII in particular had a significant impact on the world and the United States. Through the years 1939 to 1945 the majority of the world suffered many tragedies and hardships. In total, 50 million people died including women, children, civilians, and innocent bystanders. Adolf Hitler, the leader of Nazi Germany, was responsible for a significant amount of these deaths. Hitler, aligned with Japan, wanted to seize all of Europe and Japan wanted to conquer Asia. A major cause of WWII was that Germany strongly disapproved of the Treaty of Versailles. Germany especially didn’t like that they had to accept all the blame for WWI, paying $ 6,600 million for the damage they caused in WWI, and they were only allowed to have a small army and six naval ships, no tanks, no air force and no submarines were allowed. Also, the Rhineland area was to be de-militarized and taken out of Germany’s possession. All of these conditions were written in the Treaty of Versailles. During the war the world formed two sides, the Allies and the Axis Powers. The Allies included Britain, the Soviet Union, and the United States, known as “the Big 3”. The Axis Powers included Germany, Italy, and Japan. At the end of the war the Allies were triumphant and the world gained its peace.
I knew that there were services offered to low income people but what I didn’t realize was that they served the military too. I had
In our society, the responsibility and life of individuals serving in the military have been respected for many years. The fact soldiers want to serve their country and help protect the people of America is very noble. However, I believe that society has this preconceived notion that once soldiers return home to their families they are mentally well. We tend to dismiss the fact that soldiers are human beings, where they were not trained disregard their feelings pertaining to ordeals they may have encountered. In addition, Soldiers are responsible for their safety as well as the safety of their peers, which may be added stress for them. In reflection of the film “Home of the Brave”, it is a depiction of the ordeal that soldiers were subjected to. I will choose a protagonist in the film and address the role of this character incorporating the stage of development that we meet the character.
