I truly believe that to have music have an effect on you, you need to be able to understand and learn more about music. Everyone, I feel, can listen to music and find what they like desirable about it. To truly appreciate and comprehend the music is to understand the building blocks that make up a composition. I know that learning about music through my musical history it has given me an appreciation for incredibly complex musical composition, as well as simple compositions. Looking at a complex composition, one can see how the different chord progressions and rhythmus evolve to make a complete “story” full of smaller statements. With a seemingly simple piece of music, we see my favorite characteristic of all, the beauty of simplicity. With a piece …show more content…
Concert choir was the select chorus at my school that people were selected to be a part of after a complex application process. I was lucky enough to be in the concert choir for two years. Seniors in the concert choir were to pick a song that they would sing on stage at graduation, and picking our song was a tedious process. Many songs had been discussed between the twelve of us, and some were loved, other immediately shot down, until we found the one. We ended up choosing “It’s Time” by Imagine Dragons. We all loved this song and wanted to do our best to portray it together seeing that it was going to be the last song that we ever sung together as a group. My choral director was insistent that we were going to learn the song by doing the sight and rhythm reading like we did with every piece of music we learned, even though most of us already knew this song by heart. We all bought the sheet music and separated into our four parts, and learned the song. Since I put the time into learning the linguistics and particulars of that song I have a wholesome appreciation for the music that the group Imagine Dragons made, as well as the rendition that we
...usician. This is a piece that will always be special in my heart, and I know that if I wasn't exposed to it at such an early age, you might not have seen me in this class, or even at the college, studying music, the real love of my life.
The song, once again, is quite simple but it is this simplicity that makes the song as powerful as it is. It was very well written and every musical instrument that accompanied the song was epic. This piece of work is truly a masterpiece.
This edition of the Tcu ensemble series was performed at St Stephens Presbyterian Church by The TCU choral union and the University Singers. This was the initial concert for the re-instatement of the TCU choral union which is an open choir with members from Texas Christian University and the Ft. Worth area. The University Singers are a selective ensemble of music majors at TCU. St Stephens church provided a wonderful venue for this event as it made the music sound crisp and vivid.
We began learning a piece in class called " In Remembrance," an anonymous requiem with music by Eleanor Daley. "In Remembrance" felt different to sing than our usual pieces. The harmonies were beautiful, and with the mixture of the lyrics, I found myself getting chills while I sang it. Still I shook it off: it never left class with me.
On November 16th, 2013, I attended a concert choir, fall choral concert. This event took place on the Wheaton College Campus, in the Edman Chapel at 7:30 pm. The chapel was well-lit, with long pews for the audience to be seated. The concert began with the audience looking up into a balcony, where the ensemble stood in neat rows. They watched the conductor, who stood on a stage in front of the audience, waiting for their cue.
This concert was certainly a magnificent concert to see. Nature themes dominated the songs and performance, giving the listeners a pleasant and insightful consider something that they might not consider in everyday life. With individuals in the modern world being so busy nowadays, it is often hard to appreciate and think about the simplicities of life and what the earth has provided us, whether it be through the trill of a songbird or the rolling waves of an ocean. With this performance, the listener could do so, even if it was only for a little while. If the choir had not performed the pitch, melody, rhythm, and harmony to the extent that they did, it would have been much harder to convey such a magical tone to the entire concert. This concert shone in the simplicities it occupied, providing a wonderful and beautiful show for everyone in the audience.

Two of the pieces featured solos, and one even featured percussion instruments. Mrs. Elinore Farnum provided piano accompaniment for each of the songs, and performed beautifully. I was extremely impressed by the talented choir members and their ability to sing such a varied range of songs.

Sometimes if a person is happy they can listen to a song that expresses just how they feel and they become even happier when listening to this song. A simple melody can do so much and i began to wonder why. The human brain is a very complex and fascinating topic especially with music involved. After a bit of research i began to notice that I had no idea how music works with the brain on a physical level. So i looked into how music is able to be heard by the human ear and how the brain can process this information. It is a simple task that many take for granted however, it is amazing that the brain can change sound waves into different sounds that humans hear. Eventually the topic that fascinated my mind was how music really affects the brain physically and emotionally.

This piece was wonderful to listen to and I enjoyed the level of musicality with which the musicians approached this composition.
