Mechanical Engineering (Mechatronics) Lecturer Name: Dr. I, Okoloko Semester & Year: Semester 1 - 2014 SYNOPSIS Due to a lack of interesting mechatronics display items in many engineering companies and hobbyists shops, we found an existing design that matched all these requirements: A mechanical time writing clock (a.k.a. “Plotclock”). Our group decided to figure out exactly how it worked, by replicating a rescaled version of it and re-programming its movement to achieve this. We succeeded in having near perfect numbers drawn by the clock, although some improvements can be made on its dimensions to make it more stable while operating. Modern media is a great danger to us all, and the people it concerns are everywhere with no hiding available from the monster that is Media. Annalee Newitz said, “With technology tracking us everywhere we go, ‘cosplay’ might become our best defense against surveillance”(Newitz). The dystopian novel 1984 by George Orwell contains within it some great examples of the dangers of modern technology and media. In the novel the population is monitored at all times by their government. By using the telescreens the government can watch their people and listen to everything they say and watch their every move. When I was first assigned, the “invent your own technology” assignment, I had no idea of how I was going to complete this project. I had no understanding of why we had to create a project like this, especially when there are already various writing technologies available to us. I can honestly say, that by the end of this project I had realized how much technologies such as computers, typewriters, pens, pencils, and paper are taken for granted everyday. Dennis Barron said “writing is first and foremost a technology” (Barron, 37). This statement is something that I agree with! I think that any way someone writes should be considered a technology.
Why is it that we have an underlying fear that robots will eventually take over the world? Is it plausible that perhaps robots are superior to humans; or rather, that a creation will eventually rule its creator? Despite the frightening rate of technological improvements, the robots that we create do not exceed what we are as humans because those robots cannot “think” on their own. Specifically, robots have no ethics, creativity, nor sense of self.
My research paper is on the field of Industrial Engineering. I plan on pursuing this field, because I want to be able to find a way that will help eliminate wastefulness throughout the process of production. In this field, Industrial engineer 's find ways to integrate workers with information, machines, materials, and energy to create and provide products and services, without wasting any of the resources. Their duties are to review schedules, engineering specification, flows of process, and information to understand methods. Industrial Engineers have to figure out how to maximize the efficiency of parts, product, or delivery services. In the midst of the darken night, hearing the roars of thunder filling the sky, a young man is studying to become an inventor to generate a new world. Trying to create a world without hearing sirens running down the street every five minutes or hearing gun shots that sound like firecrackers is challenging. He became numb to these, trying to find a way out to make his home better and become an engineer that can make his dreams happen. Truly, the creators of technology is the builder of the new world that advances technology to benefit and connect everyone to each other.
Computer engineering is a very time consuming, challenging job. To be a good computer engineer you need years of experience and college education. Computer engineers provide information and data processing for certain computer firms and organizations. They conduct research, design computers, and discover and use new principles and ideas of applying computers. According to dictionary.com,” Mechanical Engineering is the branch of engineering dealing with the design, construction, and use of machines.” Their job is to take an idea and actually make it happen. Doing this takes a lot of knowledge and skills. They first start off with an idea that they have. Then they try to make a small module of it. They do this so they know what the product will work without spending a lot of money on it. They have to find the right materials to do this. The materials have to be able to withstand a lot of things nature has to throw at it. Like rain, dust, lightening, and many more things. After they have to make sure the produce is safe. When all of this is done they build the real thing.
As the world progresses through multiple innovative eras of technology, the people want more inventions to assist their everyday lives. Today, the field of technology mainly revolves around the subject of artificial intelligence. In particular, a company known as Hanson Robotics, strives for artificial intelligence, or AI, to match the intelligence of a human. As a result of the increased intelligence, the technology, robots for Hanson Robotics, will have the same work potential as humans. Although Hanson Robotics believes that their robots will help the human race, they cause a potential harm to human jobs and lives.
Most people thing that being an electrical engineer means that you spend your day going to people’s house and fixing their electrical problems. In reality there is more to this career than meets the eye. What they don’t know is that being an electrical engineering is a very advanced field that requires you to invent, design, and construct electrical and electronic devices as well as be able to adapt to different roles when the opportunity arises. For a career in this field you are required a minimum of a bachelors degree of science in engineering and a good computer skills.
I visited Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University twice, first time was after I graduated from my high school, my best friend Jake gave me the tour around campus, at that time, he was admitted as a fall freshman that year. I was amazed when I saw this quite town and elegant Randolph hall with department of mechanical engineering in. The Burruss hall filled with art nouveau. I felt peaceful right after I step on campus, and realized that this place was where I want to be. Virginia tech possesses esteemed reputation as one of the top Engineering College among thousands of schools in America. I made a decision that I wanted to be admitted to this university to start my engineering career.

I want you to think back to what might be the greatest invention ever. Dependant upon how well you know your history you could possibly say the wheel, the car, the airplane, the television, the autonomous robot. All of these are great ideas that have different eras in history, but they all have something in common, these creations were all invented by engineers. Do not get the misconception that engineers have been around since the dawn of time but the concept of engineering itself has. Those great revolutionaries all had ideas and solved problems which are still qualities that engineers of this day and age use. Webster defines engineering as, “the work of designing and creating large structures or new products or systems by using scientific methods.” Those people created new products so they would today be considered engineers, but they are slightly different. What makes them different is the field that they would be considered a part of. The broadest one of the oldest forms is mechanical engineering, which is my future profession.
Robotics was also a major part in the military advancements that we have today, for weapons and defenses. Today the military has drones, which are unmanned aircrafts, this a huge increase in safety from what it used to be. There are also things like claymores, and mines, which can be activated just by contact, During this time during wars instead of going into an area blind and losing lives, soldiers can send tiny planes to find out how many people are across enemy, because it is able to read the temperature of the human body.
