I debated on the topic for the questions given, I decided to write on the sacred works of the righteous as well as moral good behaviors. I will be focusing on the writings of the Qur’an. Passages in the Qur’an are great for advice based on moral activity in the human community. The Qur’an is focused within the Islamic religion as well as various parts of the world. The focus with writing from the Qur’an will be specifically on the Prophet and detailing his relationship with people as well as the Archangel Gabriel. These will coincide well with the writings from Li Bai. Li Bai’s poems have underwritten messages that can be read into to improve life. With these reasons in mind, Li Bai has a theme to his writing that could support various …show more content…
These subtle messages are written with a spiritual tone. Old Poem #9 writes “Seekers of wealth and power, surely you know. Your vain posing is just a shadow show.) (Li Bai Old Poem #9) This message allows people to look deeply into their own actions and decisions. People simply are not polished by nature, work is involved in becoming a better person. Seekers of life objects that are possessions and desires will falter. The word show that life is a constant flow of change, people that hold onto “things” will be the ones in misery. However, people who hold onto possessions and ideas of a spiritual or religious aspect will prosper through not only life, but the afterlife as well. Li Bai writes his poems in a spiritual manner that shows his true understanding of how life is supposed to work. In addition to the works of Li Bai and the Qur’an these examples leave more to be desired. Desire of a thirst of knowledge, not a desire for possession. This is a glaring example on how both the Qur’an an Li Bai show strength with their writing. People need to learn from the message to learn there is more to life than objects and power. Advancement in life is great for the benefit of mankind, however, what people see in the end is what will truly form a
Power and Money do not Substitute Love and as it denotes, it is a deep feeling expressed by Feng Menglong who was in love with a public figure prostitute at his tender ages. Sadly, Feng Menglong was incapable to bear the expense of repossessing his lover. Eventually, a great merchant repossessed his lover, and that marked the end of their relationship. Feng Menglong was extremely affected through distress and desperation because of the separation and he ultimately, decided to express his desolation through poems. This incidence changed his perception and the way he represents women roles in his stories. In deed, Feng Menglong, is among a small number of writers who portrayed female as being strong and intelligent. We see a different picture build around women by many authors who profoundly tried to ignore the important role played by them in the society. Feng Menglong regards woman as being bright and brave and their value should never be weighed against
Overall, the poem is a successful attempt on using literary elements such as ironic and sarcastic rhetoric and powerful and suggestive imagery. From its title to its stanzas and specific lines, the poem is truly anchored on its central thesis and main themes. Its effective use of consistent tone and elements of the figurative language such as oxymoron and metaphor added value to its splendor as a piece of
I think that the messages this book displays are important for anyone to think about, and apply to their lives every day.
To Thoreau, life’s progress has halted. It seems people have confused progression with captivity driven by materialism. To Krakaeur, people are indifferent to pursing the sublime in nature. To Christopher McCandles the world around him is forgetting the purpose of life. People are blind to nature. In the eyes of these men the world is victim to commercial imprisonment. People live to achieve statuses that only exist because man made them. Fame, money, and monotonous relationships do not exist in nature; they are the pursuits of soulless fundamentalism. The truth is that people pursue meaningless goals, and people don’t want to hear or know how they are foolish. When exposed, reality is so unsettling that it seems wrong. Yet, to be free of the falseness in life is in essence the point of singularity that people realize if there is no truth in love then it is false, if there is no truth in money then it is worthless, if there is no truth in fame then it is undeserving. Without truth everything is a worthless pursuit of a meaningless glass ceiling.
In the excerpt from The Signature of All Things by Elizabeth Gilbert this was shown to us by the Alma, Henry Whitaker's daughter. She observed something that was more thrilling than anything she has ever seen and because she asked to be apart of, she was allowed to be a part of something meaningful to her. An individuals has the power to create a meaningful life if they strive for what they value in life, because if they don’t try as hard as they could they will not be able to live a purposeful life.
. ." (lines 5-7). In this, he tries to begin to explain that in order to truly live the fullest life possible, one must live simply; literally "driv[ing] life into a corner, and reduc[ing] it to its lowest terms" is the only way to achieve fullness. Later, he also states: "Let us spend one day as deliberately as Nature, and not be thrown off the track by every nutshell and mosquito’s wing that falls on the rails. Let us rise early and fast, or break fast, gently and without [disturbance]; let company come and let company go, let the bells ring and the children cry. . ." (lines 13-16). In this, he expresses that one should not let the daily disturbances of life affect oneself. Life should be lived with litle disturbance, and even such disturbances should not be taken as seriously. In choosing to give examples, he shows just how many things go on that one can be pestered with, and that one should choose to ignore them and let them pass by. He also states: "Let us settle ourselves, and work and wedge our feet downward through the mud
Throughout the movie the director breaks down the message in clever ways and makes the message very precise and clear. In the movie the director was attempting to teach the viewers a life lesson. In order to have peace of mind and continue to actually “live” it is important that you don’t hold grudges, believe, have faith, and no matter the situation don’t ignore signs due to your stubbornness or convincing yourself otherwise when you know the truth.
to the fact that not everything is as well as it seems and that this
Zhao Zhenkai also known as Bei Dao is a Chinese born in Beijing, China. He’s one of the most outstanding, extraordinary and distinguished Chinese poet of his generation. By many, he’s seen and considered as one of the major writers in modern China. Bei Dao which literally means “Northern Island” is the pen name of this Chinese poet and he’s won copious international awards for his poetry, he’s been nominated severally for the Nobel Prize in literature and he’s an honorary member of the American Academy of Arts and letters. He’s also an author of short stories. He’s known through his writing as a critical thinker who creatively constitute a driving force culture and he’s seen as a pervasive, Insuppressible media machine that is incessantly grinding lives into story lines and human voices into carefully gleaming sound bites. Bai’s poetry core concern at this time is a solicitation for the reimposition of personal space and life’s ordinariness against a general indigence of humanity in china for the past ten years. Bai has written many poems which challenge the issue of a corrupt society, abuse of power and bloody landscape of the fascist dictatorship in China. Some of Bei Dao’s books of poetry and essay include, Blue house (2000), Unlock (2000), Midnight Gate (2005), The August Sleeper (1988), Old Snow (1991) and at the Sky’s Edge Poems (1991-1996) and untitled.
Upon reading more closely, the story is revealed to present a tragic journey of a man who has lost his sanity but seeks solace in the materialistic comforts of his old life. The story succeeds in making a number of statements about human nature: that wealth is the most powerful measure of social status and anyone without it will face ostracization; that denial of one 's mistakes and unfortunate circumstances only leads to more pain; that even the most optimistic people can hold dark secrets and emotional turmoil inside them. All of these themes compel the reader to ponder their real-life implications long after the story is
The first line of the poem contains the first three themes “In the pasture of the world, I endlessly push aside the tall grasses in search of the bull.” From the standpoint of Taoism, this line represents the endless search done by humanity to find Tao both within and without ourselves. The seventh poem is titled The Bull Transcended and mainly deals with the person’s acceptance of life and their realization that they don’t want to suffer by constantly defying Tao. The first line of the poem “The Dawn has come” is highly metaphorical and symbolic.
The writer's purpose in this piece is to inform their audience that if one changes oneself they can make a difference in the world, hence inspire people to change their ways to "make the world a better place".
The first noble truth states that to live is to suffer (Ellwood, McGraw, 122). With a body comes decay and pain, and with the mind comes trouble and discouragement. Each day requires us to decide what to do with our lives and what we have to do in order to achieve happiness. Daily life becomes a to-do list which can lead to frustra...
The message to value more important things in order to have a wisely spent life is demonstrated very well through literary devices in “The Necklace”, by Guy de Maupassant. Madame undergoes an ironic moment in life as she learns what is worth valuing. She is a very greedy woman who only cares about herself. The reader would never think of her as the person to do work, but that thought changes as she misplaces what she thinks of as a valuable item. If Madame just learned how to live life in a way that will not make her upset and to value things that are valuable towards life instead of expenses, she will be better off. But this is how Madame views her life, while others take notice of the significance in their lives. Values are different towards people across the world, and Guy de Maupassant defines that in his short story, “The Necklace”.
To Transcend Duty Considered the greatest of China’s poets, Du Fu deserves the praise for his ability in conveying so many emotions in a single poem. Known as Confucian poet, Du Fu utilizes many Confucian principles in his poetry, especially those relating to family. Unlike Li Bai, a friend and fellow poet, Du Fu has many powerful poems written about his family. In reading these poems, something more than Confucian filial duty comes out, especially in the poems about his wife. As the relationship between husband and wife is one of the five Confucian relationships, it makes sense he would write about his duty to his wife, but Du Fu’s poetry shows how the depth and scope of his feelings surpasses mere duty.
