No one ever really wants to move. However, sometimes you have to. When you have to move, you want to do everything that you can to make your move easier on you. Thinking ahead and making a plan will make your move easier.

1. Move during the week. Your instinct may be to move during the weekend. After all, everyone is off work. It will be much easier. However, if you move during the week, all the utility companies are open. Banks and other offices will be open too. If something goes wrong, you can immediately get it taken care of, instead of having to wait until Monday. Going a weekend without power or water is no fun.

2. Go high tech. Find a home inventory app. You can make your smartphone work for you. You can take a picture of your possessions, and then make sure those things get assigned to a particular box. Then you can tell the app which room that box belongs to. When you are all done with that, you can actually email that to your computer. When you can't find something, you can just look it up in your inventory, and find it with no problem.

3. Make your suitcases work for you. You shouldn't move your suitcases empty. After all, they are designed to carry things. Pack them full of stuff. If you have wheeled suitcases, put heavy things in there, like books. Those wheels will make it much easier to get those heavy things around.

4. Take a picture of your electronic setup. There is nothing worse than getting to your new house and not being able to watch TV because you can't remember how to hook it up. Use your smartphone to take pictures of how the wires are setup before you disconnect them. That way all you have to do is refer to the picture.
