Introduction
Taxpayers are often looking for opportunities to increase their tax savings and to lower the amount of taxes that they must pay yearly. To aid in their savings they look for possible tax deductions which help offset their taxable income. There are numerous amounts of deductions that are available for taxpayers should they meet the stated requirements set out in the Internal Revenue Code. One deduction in particular is the home-office deduction, this deduction allows for those who meet the requirements to reduce their taxable income due to a space they have designated in their home as an area that they can conduct business activities in. The home office deduction is a great way to use a percentage of household expenses to lessen

He explains that as part of a college professor’s job he is required to conduct research during the time that he is not teaching his students. Cadwallader claims that he only teaches for thirteen hours a week and the rest of his time is spent on his research studies at home in his own office that he uses exclusively for his research. The tax court decided that although he does use majority of his time at this home office to conduct business obligations, he is not qualified for the deduction because his employer provides him an office space on the college campus to work on his research. The tax court argues that if the university did not provide him this space then he would be able to qualify for the deduction but since they do provide him with the space and he chooses to work elsewhere, he is not eligible. This decision fell under the rule of determining if the home office was established at the convenience of the employer or the employee. Since the office is at the convenience of the employee and the employer does give Cadwallader the opportunity to work on campus the deduction was
My budget below does not state this but, I would choose sole proprietor as my tax status. My reason for this is, I have run my own business as a sole proprietor and feel comfortable doing so at this time. Since this is a make believe budget I have a pretend accountant and lawyer and would need to further scrutinize my options. I did go to the IRS website and read about different things that would need to be done but I will admit I had an overload of information. The t...

It is no secret that boys and girls grow up hearing about all of their differences. In Hyde’s article, “The Gender Similarities Hypothesis”, she recognizes the frequency of psychological studies done to prove that males and females are very different. It is a common belief that males and females have more mental differences than similarities. As Hyde’s article explains, this seems to be untrue. In fact, it is the opposite that Hyde finds true. She claims that males and females are almost completely psychologically the same, with only a few differences. In her article, she compares meta-analyses of different functions such as math computation, special perception, helping behavior, and more. She found that the vast majority of these experiments showed small differences between the abilities of males versus those of
The screeching decibels of my alarm clock woke me at five-thirty that morning. Football practice the day before completely destroyed my body leaving my arms and legs almost unmovable. All my strength was used to stand that morning. My brother told me to stop complaining and get ready for school. He was older and always bossed me around. “I don’t want to go to school” I exclaimed! “What are you going to do, sit at home and stay dumb?” He said. That is not a bad idea I thought. I can teach myself. I imagined the possibility of being homeschooled. I knew homeschooling was not an option for me. My mother worked two jobs and was hardly home to check my homework. If it was an option, homeschooling would be my choice. Homeschooling is a better choice than a Public School education. Homeschooling offers
Homeschooling is often portrayed as an overprotective mom - unwilling to let her kids leave her for a day at school, and a large number of children, all unable to hold a conversation, let alone function normally in society. As someone who was homeschooled from kindergarten through eighth grade, I can attest that my homeschool experience was the exact opposite of this confining stereotype.
Home school education has been growing exponentially in America over the past couple decades as more and more families are deciding to cultivate their kids’ educations in a more personalized fashion. Parents choose to home school their children for a large variety of reasons. The most popular reasons for this decision include dissatisfaction with the current education system, religious freedom in education, and personalized education for certain skillsets. Home school educations grew in popularity as the Internet became more prevalent in culture. The Internet allowed parents to access more educational materials from home and communicate with other home school families across the globe. Home school has had an impact on the identities of students
Homeschooling has become a popular trend within the past several years. Many parents are pulling their children out of public school and private schools and are now educating them in their own home. With the rise in the number of homeschooling families a new question has arisen; should homeschooled children be allowed to participate in extra-curricular activities, especially sports, in public schools? Homeschool families pay the same taxes as other public families that fund the public schools. Just as it is unacceptable to exclude homeschoolers from publicly funded areas such as libraries, hospitals, and parks, so it is unacceptable to exclude homeschoolers from public school programs such as band, sports, clubs, and after school activities.
Robert Frost, Wolfgang Mozart, Susan B. Anthony, Theodor Roosevelt, and Serina Williams are all examples of extraordinary people that received an education through homeschooling. A homeschool student will receive their education from one of their parents at home, and through self-teaching. Parents may choose to homeschool their child for a multitude of reasons. Many of which are in regard to parents’ religious beliefs and educational standards. A traditional school may not offer the best education a child can possibly attain, consequently, parents chose to homeschool. Homeschooling allowed these great athletes, leaders, and artists to flourish into the great people they are known as to society. Some
Sin taxes are controversial in the U.S., but governments have always relied on tortuous taxes on goods as a source of income. “Sinful” goods such as cigarettes or alcohol traditionally have a punitive tax, while there is current interest in even penalizing the purchase of fatty foods or sugary drinks – a step too far. Sin taxes equate to excise taxes mainly designed to inhibit certain behaviors deemed harmful to society, and have functioned with varied importance throughout history. Taxes on items such as cigarettes and alcohol usually have bipartisan appeal, and are likely to benefit the fiscal, social and physical health of the U.S. Therefore, sin taxes are necessary in a state to both deter unacceptable behaviors and financially benefit from those who still partake in those unacceptable behaviors.
Homeschooling is an educational option that permits parents to teach their children at home rather than sending them to public schools. It is believed that "homeschooled children now number 1.2 million in the United States and the number is steadily growing" (Farris, 1997, p. 4). Ray (cited in Mirochinck & McIntyre, 1991). Some Parents believe that sending their children to public schools in which qualified teachers are responsible for educating them is beneficial .However, other parents believe that it is better for their children to be educated at home by people who know their needs. In this paper, I intend to argue with homeschooling.

Homeschool versus public school has been the age old debate. The argument has always been whether homeschooling can be more beneficial to a child than attending public school. There are always some advantages for a child who is homeschooling but there are also a lot of disadvantages to. The decision on whether a family chooses homeschooling over public-school is always up to the parent to make. Whichever one they choose they have to make sure it’s the right choice for their child. When parent decides that homeschooling is right for them, not only is that parents give me up their freedoms and any spare time they would have. The parent also has to have the ability to switch their hats for parent to teacher. This is a very important skill to have
Taxation has evolved throughout history as a method of funding government functions. The US government began taxing its people by imposing tariffs on certain items such as liquor, tobacco, sugar, and legal documents. Currently, there are taxes on almost every function. The IRS regulates income tax laws, central appraisal districts control property tax values, and there is a state sales tax on most purchases across the country. Taxes are difficult, if not impossible, to avoid. Benjamin Franklin stated “'in this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes” (Isaacson 463). Revenues from property taxes are used to fund public schools, hospitals, and local governments. I will discuss the history of property taxes and compare the Texas property tax rate to the rest of the country. Property taxes are more efficient than income tax and a better way for local governments to collect revenue from taxpayers.
The Estate Tax, known as the ‘death tax’ as well as the ‘anti-birth tax’, has been one of the most controversial parts of the United States tax code since its introduction in 1916 (Cagetti & De Nardi, 85). The estate tax is a tax imposed upon assets transferred at the time of the estate holder’s death. Those opposed have named it the “death tax” as they claim it hurts business activity as well as job creation. However, according to those in favor, the estate tax is an effective way to tax the richest few, and redistribute their wealth, thereby narrowing the gap of inequality. For those in favor, an abolition of the estate tax would impose a “birth tax” of sorts onto the majority of Americans who have not inherited a large sum of money (Cagetti & De Nardi, 87). The controversial estate tax in the United States is often questioned by many and has been challenged time and time again. However, more emphasis has typically been put on particular aspects of the tax code where points of dispute are found.
