The depiction of gun safety for children is a much needed in the home. According to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, over 1,600 kids were killed by guns alone and another 9,718 were injured by one. A high percentage of these deaths came from children playing with guns that were loaded while the parent was not present ("Gun Violence: Facts and Statistics | Violence Prevention Initiative"). Increasing crime rates in our society is influencing more citizens to go out and purchase a gun to protect their family and property. One-third of every home has a gun and just about every home has kids in them which make it very dangerous for the children. If you own a gun or not, it is very important that you talk to and teach your children about gun safety because most guns are not properly stored away or have a lock on the firearm. Often children learn about guns from their friends, cartoons, and other places and then they pretend to play with guns. …show more content…
Therefore children need to know about guns and when they see a gun, do not touch it and immediately tell an adult. I remember when I was younger and my grandfather would pick me up in his red pickup truck and would always have his gun placed in between the seats.
When people have owned a gun for some time they often forget that they still have to take precautions for their safety and other people’s safety. In order to teach minors about gun safety, you must educate yourself on the use of firearms and firearm safety. With the increase of gun purchases, the majority of them are inexperienced and uneducated buyers.
On the opposing side, children should be around guns in the first place because they should be locked away and stored in a safe place away from children’s reach. For older children, you have to take even better precautions because they tend to know more since they have been exposed to more and are able to understand much better than a toddler. But you can’t keep everything from children because they are not always in your own eyesight or under the same type of supervision that a parent would give their own
child. Before you purchased a firearm there should be a mandatory gun safety course you have to complete. There are many private organizations that offer gun courses today but you have to pay for the classes and they are not required. The gun courses should included properly handling of the weapons, how to fire the gun when needed, how and where to store the gun when not in use in a car or home. The course will not only educate the owner of the handgun but will help them also educate their children about guns and gun safety. If you're not educated on safety rules, how can you teach your kids gun safety rules? You simply can’t. In the course, you will learn about storing the gun inside of the home. Where should you store your gun? When storing a gun inside of your home it should always be out of reach and sight of children. It is safer to buy a lock box to put your weapon in especially if you have very small children. Make it as safe as possible because children are very curious and are always looking for something to get into. According to Region, Eight New’s experiment where they did an experiment where they hid a gun that no longer worked in a playroom with children to find just to see what the children would do with it. The children that had been taught gun safety rules didn’t touch the gun and notified an adult immediately. The kids that had no knowledge about gun safety picked the gun up and evenc went as far as looking down the barrel with their finger on the trigger (Ricket). In my own opinion, it is better for a young child to know what to do in the situation of coming in contact with a firearm than it is not to know. We as people tend to do better if we knew better. There are gun safety programs provided for children to learn about the well-being of guns and what to do if they come in contact with a firearm. One in particular is the NRA Eddie Eaglr Gunsafe program. It doesn’t focus on the fact of guns being good or bad but moreso of assisting with guidance and safety of children. The rules mainly focused on are stop, don’t touch, leave the area and tell an adult ("Guns & Your Children"). Teaching your child not to touch a gun is very important. Guns are very dangerous to children because they don’t really know the harm that a loaded gun can do to them. For this reason, we must teach our children to about the importance of how dangerous it is to touch a gun and what to do if they come in contact with a gun. A child can be introduced to a number of things when their parents are not around. A child can see a gun and if they know nothing about it that gun could easily end up in their book bag and brought to school around other children.
Through the year’s shootings have increased by a significant amount. Individuals are becoming affected on a regular basis and are concerned about there safety. Parents are worried for there youth getting assaulted, sexually violence, tormented, kidnaped, murdered on the other hand, now there ending up to be more stressed for there child getting shot. Guns have been around for hundredths of years, both world wars were succeeded with guns, hence, guns were served to defend its nation through history. In Western society citizens purchase guns for self preservation. Unfortunately, they are utilized in opposing ways, the majority of crimes are involved in gun shootings; this is an essential issue in America. Most agree that gun violence will have
People with guns need safes that can secure and protect their firearms. There are a variety of gun safes available in the market and each gun safe caters to a specific need, and what works for one gun owner may not work for the other.
Imagine, a person is sitting in their classroom in college. He or she is focused on listening to the teacher, because he or she needs to pass the final exam in order to graduate. All of a sudden, an intruder charges through the door. The intruder pulls out a gun and starts blasting bullets throughout the classroom. There is nowhere to run and there is no way to fight back. Everyone is hit and on the floor, bleeding. This person is so close to graduating and starting a new life. Now his life has been cut short, because there was someone who illegally brought a gun to a school. Because the school had a symbol of “no guns allowed”. Because the intruder knew there was no one else could shoot back. Now imagine if that student, dying on the floor,
Some of the deaths that were caused by gun violence was dealt to small children.Having a firearm in your home can cause a great risk if you have a child in your home because a firearm can be accessed by a child. In many situation the child is playing with firearm without adult supervision and end up either wounding themselves or end up dead. According to CNN “Guns kill Nearly 1,300 US children each year.”Also when a firearm is easily accessible a child will often grab a hold of it and it could be a possibility that they can take it to school there were some cases where a kid took a firearm to school and opened
Violence related to guns is a prominent issue in America. Guns are a means to an end; meaning guns have played a strong role in suicides, murders, and injuries. In the past decade there has been an average of 400-500 thousand incidents of firearms per year (Gun Violence). The number of injured people from firearm incidents in the United States per year for the past decade is 400-600 thousand people (Gun Violence). These statistics are absolutely shocking to anyone. The amount of violence and crime that comes from guns is enormous. It is imperative that proper gun control is put into place by means of background checks and proper training. It can almost be certain that the number of incidents of accidental discharges from children and the number of victims affected by gun crimes in general can be highly reduced.

Today in the United States many people argue over the fact of guns being legal or illegal. There are people using guns for personal safety and there are others who use them for crimes, as well as for other situations. Firearm deaths in the United States have slowly been decreasing from year to year with all these bills getting passed to promote a safer country than ever before. Guns are the main weapon for youth suicide, school shootings, and for committing murder. In 2010 there were 2,711 infants, child, and teenage firearm deaths. As in school shootings and in committing murder, studies show shooters often had multiple, non-automatic guns, shootings were planned, most youth tell before shooting, shooters have a history of being bullied or threatened, shooters have mental issues, and shooters have done suicidal gestures before (Gun Control with School Shootings). Although there are people who use guns for murdering, there are also those who oppose guns being used without the proper requirements. 85% of all respondents to the survey supporting requiring states to report people to national background-checks systems who are prohibited from owning gu...
The first thing that parents should be worried about would be the exposure of guns that their children have. Several families have guns at home because they feel they are secure having them for protection. People buy guns because they believe that where they live,
More than 20,000 children and youth under the age of 20 years old are injured or killed by guns in the U.S. The easy accesses kids have to getting their hands on guns are a major reason why firearms are the second leading cause of death among the youth. The majority of deaths by guns in the youth are homicides. About one-third of them are suicides. Seven percent are unintentional. People living in urban areas such as, older teens, males, African American youth, and Hispanic youth are more likely to be involved in gun homicides. People in rural areas like males and Caucasian youth are more likely to commit suicide. There were 2,711 infant, child, and teen firearm deaths. That’s seven deaths a day.
Gun control is a highly controversial topic in today’s world where the fight is between the liberal and the conservatives. Many people believe that guns should be banned due to many recent massacres that have happened whereas others are wanting people to have background checks done before owning a gun. I am against gun control because banning handguns in the United States should not be allowed because handguns fail to protect the people and it is ineffective.
Crime and guns. The two seem to go hand in hand with one another. But are the two really associated? Do guns necessarily lead to crime? And if so do laws placing restrictions on firearm ownership and use stop the crime or protect the citizens? These are the questions many citizens and lawmakers are asking themselves when setting about to create gun control laws. The debate over gun control, however, is nothing new. In 1924, Presidential Candidate, Robert La Follete said, “our choice is not merely to support or oppose gun control but to decide who can own which guns under what conditions.” Clearly this debate still goes on today and is the very reason for the formation of gun control laws.
Due to the recent disruption of violent crimes on campus, many citizens that are pro-gun activist have suggested that both the students and teachers should be allowed to carry concealed weapons on school campuses. Those who are with guns allowed on school campuses claim that their rights have been violated for the reason that many college campuses refuse to allow weapons of any kind on their property. The Constitution of The United States of America already grants citizens the right to carry guns with them. It is not appropriate for guns to be in a vulnerable area such as a college campus or any University. There are already too many guns available to the public or easy to get any kind of gun, and allowing them on
In particular, CAP (Child Access Prevention) laws are touted primarily as a means of reducing accidental shootings by children, they also can be expected to prevent some intentional third-party shootings and suicides (McClurg). Similarly, 15-24-year-olds were most often the victims of unintentional gun deaths with 2,705 deaths between 1999 and 2014 (25.6% of total unintentional firearm deaths), and with 1999 having the most deaths at 251 (US Gun Deaths, 1999-2014). Overall, unintentional firearm deaths were down 28.9% from 1999 to 2014 (US Gun Deaths, 1999-2014). School shootings, such as the recent high-profile events in Chardon, Ohio; Sparks, Nevada, and Troutdale, Oregon, are usually committed by students of the school who are under the age of 18 (FBI 2002) (Sabia and Anderson). In fact, between 2012 and 2015, approximately 70 percent of shootings at K-12 schools were committed by minors (Everytown.org 2015a) (Sabia and Anderson). This information shows how easy these kids got the guns due to the family not having the guns in a locked place causing an unsafe environment for schools. Therefore, we should have gun control laws to prevent this so it can add an extra help in preventing it along with the CAP
As of 2013, all 50 states allow concealed carry of handguns (Concealed Carry Reciprocity Maps), although a few states don’t require a permit and the standards for licensing vary greatly from state to state. In the U.S. most states are “Shall Issue” states. This means they will grant anybody a permit that meets certain guidelines such as being 21 or older and not having any felony convictions, a history of mental illness or domestic abuse. A handful of other states are “May Issue” states. In these other states, such as Maryland, a permit will only be issued if you can prove you need it. This can be a large obstacle and these states will usually only issue permits to people in the public eye, wealthy individuals that are well-connected or business owners frequently transporting large sums of cash (Concealed Carry Reciprocity Maps). Although the requirements and standards are different wherever you may live, one thing holds true- concealed carry permit holders are rapidly growing. The market for handgun training, concealed carry courses and smaller, more concealable handguns have opened up. When concealed carry was first gaining popularity there were two very different schools of thought. Some thought that violent crime would decrease, as criminals would fear the everyday person that just may happen to be armed. Others thought that having people carrying around concealed handguns in public would lead to an increase in violent crime with people losing their temper and shooting each other. When analyzing the data and crime trends, it is clear that with this influx of concealed carry permit holders there has not been a corresponding increase in violent crime.
