Hard times were among everyone involved in the holocaust in Nineteen Thirty-Three. The cruel actions of Hitler ruined too many lives and tore a great amount of families apart. Frank Foley was a hero to say the least and everyone agreed. Along with many other heroes from the past, he muffled the cries of so many innocent people. Francis Foley was born on November 24th, 1884 in Highbridge, Somerset. He was the third son of three kids. He also had a sweet wife named Kay. He was a World War 1 Veteran as well as a British secret service agent. Frank was looked up to by many, “He took a stance against evil. He knew the dire consequences were he to get caught. He saved the lives of many thousands of European Jews and ensured they could travel safely out of the clutches of Hitler’s killers.” The fact that the majority of people looked up to Frank Foley shows what kind of person he truly was.

Francis Foley had a heart attack on May 8th, 1958 at the age of 73. Little did he know he would always be remembered as a true hero as well as a great person. He did not expect recognition for everything he’s ever done. He did what he did out of the kindness in his heart and would’ve done it over and over again whether he got recognized or not. Frank has his own plaque to honor him at the British Embassy in Berlin. This man did so much for everyone else, meanwhile his own life was on the line the whole time. Three things that made Frank important was that he was a brave and courageous fighter, he loved to help fellow Jews, and he saved more than 200 Jews. He contributed to his field of specialty by getting weapons and food for them. He also helped wounded men by carrying them or caring for them. He did this because he loved his fellow fighters. Frank defended many villages when they were under attack by the Nazis. He was never too scared to take on a task because he knew who he was helping.
The Silber Medal winning biography, “Surviving Hitler," written by Andrea Warren paints picture of life for teenagers during the Holocaust, mainly by telling the story of Jack Mandelbaum. Avoiding the use of historical analysis, Warren, along with Mandelbaum’s experiences, explains how Jack, along with a few other Jewish and non-Jewish people survived.
There are many heroic individuals in history that have shown greatness during a time of suffering ,as well as remorse when greatness is needed, but one individual stood out to me above them all. He served as a hero among all he knew and all who knew him. This individual, Simon Wiesenthal, deserves praise for his dedication to his heroic work tracking and prosecuting Nazi war criminals that caused thousands of Jews, Gypsies, Poles and other victims of the Holocaust to suffer and perish.

" The businessman, Oskar Schindler, demonstrated a powerful example of a man who was moved emotionally to step in and take action to save the lives of the Jewish people. “He’s the man who’s lived through hell without every hating. Who’s been exposed to the most depraved aspects of human nature but still manages to find love, to believe in God, to experience joy.” This was a quote said by Oprah Winfrey during her interview with Elie Wiesel, a holocaust survivor. No person who has not experienced the Holocaust and all its horrors could ever relate to Elie Wiesel. The biography Bonhoeffer: Pastor, Martyr, Prophet, Spy showcases the vast contributions that Dietrich Bonhoeffer achieved during a life that was cut suddenly to short. Bonhoeffer is memorable for his activity within an anti-Nazi resistance, founding the Confessing Church, creating many new theological ideas, and being brave enough to enter back into a warzone to stop the ongoing eliminations of innocent people. Although, he was hung weeks before Germany surrendered and Adolf Hitler was conquered, Bonhoeffer left an important theological legacy.
Dietrich Bonhoeffer was a very great man. He did so much to help a race of people that he knew little about and that did nothing for him. He just did it because he knew it was the right thing. Also he did his best to over throw Hitler’s reign by joining different anti activist groups. Even though he did all this he still was a very educated man. He went to high-school and later went on to college. Later in his life he went back to that college to be a teacher there. He also did many other things like travel to the United States of America and become a Pasteur at a church in New York City.

For the duration of the 1950's America was absorbed with the fear of the Communists taking control of the country. Joseph McCarthy, a Republican Senator from Wisconsin, heightened the fears many Americans already possessed. McCarthy had a deep hatred for communists, so he devised a plan to make American’s hate communists as much as him, and also had hopes that it would get himself re-elected. McCarthy gave a speech in Wheeling, West Virginia where he held up a piece of paper announcing, "I have here a list of 57 known Communists who are currently employed by the U.S. State Department." Shortly after his speech, McCarthy changed the number of communists in the U.S. State Department from 57 to 205. America had felt safe and at peace from the communists. Now; however, they felt uneasy and panicked at the thought of communists working in their own government. Americans started to demand the names of these people listed on McCarthy's "Blacklist." Congress then started attempting to seek out the people on McCarthy’s list. A particular group that was closely examined was the actors and actresses in Hollywood that McCarthy declared to be communists. Joseph McCarthy used and abused his power of being a senator. In doing so, he created chaos and destruction in the lives of many people, and in most of America.
