Austin Bronner 6th period Mrs.Taylor 5/1/2017 Career Research Paper It is important to research jobs that you are interested in because you can learn about what skills and education you need to pursue that job. Researching jobs will also tell you the job description such as job duties and what your day would consist of. Another good reason to do this is to find out the salary and job outlook. I chose commercial pilot and diesel mechanic. I chose these two because I really like flying and want to learn more about becoming an diesel mechanic. A typical day for a commercial pilot is to inspect the airplane for leaks and etc. A pilot also needs to test the engines before taking off. A pilot has a lot of duties on top of keeping the passengers safe when in flight. When in flight the pilots have to monitor engine operation and fuel …show more content…
A typical day as a diesel mechanic is to diagnose, adjust, repair, or overhaul buses and trucks, or maintain and repair any type of diesel engines. Other job duties you would have to perform are small like changing fluids or tires. Another thing that you would have to do is determine causes of operating errors and deciding what to do about the problem. If the shop is not busy you could have to control operations of equipment or systems. The skills needed to be a diesel mechanic is knowing your way around a diesel engine. Another skill that will be very helpful is knowing how to use a computer for diagnostics and to figure out the problem. Also knowing how to change oil and order parts that you will need to replace. Another skill needed is to know how to use the proper tools safely. Also you need to know how to drive a dump truck or semi. The schooling and training needed to become a diesel mechanic is to go to college for two years to learn more about diesel mechanics. A good college to attend in Ohio University of Northwestern Ohio. This college is in Lima,

Here's 8 Questions to Ask Before Enrolling into a Diesel Mechanic School. 1. What is the difference between a. and a. Has the school been assessed by NATEF (which remains with the National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation)? Note: When I say NATEF realize that their essential concern is to enhance the nature of auto expert preparation programs all through the U.S. by means of deliberate confirmation accreditation. NATEF is run by a 14-member trustee board that is selected by the ASE Board.
Diesel mechanics fix and maintain every part associated with the diesel engine. There are many different branches of diesel technology which can include construction and farm equipment, over the road trucks, light duty pickups and stationary engines to name a few. A mechanic must be familiar with major brands of engines like Cummins and Cat. They can perform simple tasks of swapping out a bad component to completely overhauling an engine. The median pay for mechanics is “$42,320 per year or $20.35 per hour (United States).” When overtime hours are reached mechanics receive one and a half times pay for work performed. Negative parts of the job are the amount of overtime hours, the dirtiness of the work, and the cost of tools. Positive parts of the job are overtime pay, hands on, and traveling for work. The job outlook for growth in the diesel field “is projected to grow 9 percent from 2012 to 2022, about as fast as the average for all occupations (United States).” The field of diesel mechanics is still growing today and will continue for a...
The are probley around 263100 people as a diesel mechanic that work in the united states or probley even more. Although in the next 10 to 15 diesel mechanism should experience a 11.5% rate of growth and if that happens there will probley be around 293356 people as diesel mechanics in 10 to 15 years.
Its unusal cause you can get called in unannounced and have 2 vehicles one day and 6 the next and you work until the jobs done so hours change as well. There are normally no seasonal fluctuations for diesel mechanics and you work summer fall winter and spring. Because of that and the fact that hours vary you can sometimes wind up working on days you don’t want to work or get called in unexpectedly. The job of diesel mechanics also takes a lot of other skills like multi-tasking an example would be you would have to check gauges while repairing something on the motor or radiator you also need improvisation skills and an example of that would be when you’re on the job site and you don’t have all the parts or probably mainly tools you would have to improvise something to make it work so you can get the
The history of Detroit Diesel started in 1938 just as WWII was heating up. In the same year General Motors formed the GM Diesel Division which is the ancestor of Detroit Diesel. This was an epic time when tradition of strength, quality, and dependability was born.( Detroit Diesel )
The diesel engines combustion process is a little different than the typical gasoline engine. A couple main things that diesel engines have that gasoline engines do not are, carburetors and spark plugs. Unlike a gasoline engine, air is first allowed into the cylinder rather than a fuel and air mixture. Once the air is compressed it creates a source of heat, then a mist of fuel is injected to start the combustion process which then creates the energy. Since diesel engines do not have spark plugs they are able to take in larger amount of fuel, this obviously means there will be more power and will guarantee better efficiency. Another thing that is very important is that diesel tends to be a better lubricant than gasoline, being that it is a better lubricant there will be less friction which will generally increase the life of the engine (Woodford). Diesel engines operate at slower speeds than gasoline engines, therefore diesel engines tend to have longer lifespans than gasoline
Ultimately, this class helped me gauge and find a suitable career path, which will forever shape my future. Self-Exploration Over the course of this semester, I have learned a tremendous amount of information about myself from the self-exploration series. The results of my Personal Globe Inventory (PGI) presented me with a couple of different career paths to explore. The first type of career that brought to my attention was an enterprising career.
The inventor of diesel was Rudolf Diesel; he patented his invention in 1898. “Diesel is a petroleum based fuel with a high energy content helping diesel go further per gallon than most other alternatives”(Diesel Forum). Instead of using a spark plug inside the combustion chamber to ignite the air/fuel mixture, a diesel engine compresses it. A combustion chamber is a closed space where the explosion happens inside the engine. When people think of diesel they may think of huge 18 wheeler trucks. Big 18 wheeler trucks are made to transport goods and other materials. 18 wheeler trucks have incredible torque and miles per gallons(MPG) compared to a gasoline engine.”Diesel is more than 33% more efficient than gasoline is when it comes to your fuel mileage”(Cars Direct). Diesels have a bad reputation for being too loud and too dirty compared to other vehicles. But all of that has changed throughout the years. Diesel engines can be used in farming, mining, construction and in the movement of goods. Diesel engines are used all around people everyday. Most public transportation run on diesel engines like buses, and trains....

and I started to take it out. They test broken down machinery using computerized diagnostic programing, these particular programs designed to run various tests and find the problem in the machine. It is very important that as an industrial machinery mechanic keeps records of what they repaired, how long it took to repair the machinery, and how much the repair cost. They know how to carry on a conversation about business and talk with others to ask for help when they need it. An industrial machinery mechanic needs to know how to communicate; this is a major part of this particular job.
85% equipments use single-cylinder diesel engines, while the rest use multi-cylinder ones. In the market of multi-cylinder diesel the competition is less intense because of excessive demand. The prospect is much more promising. Longxi has a certain competitive advantage in this market, resulting from its popular product such as SL2100.
Truck driving is a difficult job which requires great responsibility of transferring the goods from one place to other far place with proper safety. Genuine CDL training is required by every aspiring truck driver to attain essential skills as a professional driver. These training programs are meant not only help the students learn about the possible ways to handle and manage their trucks in most adverse traffic and weather conditions, but also, this training helps them to learn how to prevent any major loss of the goods during the transference.
In order to further decrease the number of airplane accidents stricter measures of evaluating an aircrafts operability prior to take off need to be implemented. Additionally, better training of pilots can also lead to a more preferable outcome should a problem arise as the pilot will be better equipped to handle an emergency.
My career goal is to become an Auto Mechanic and Shop Owner. Being an Auto Mechanic intends to have a variety of skills such as: having knowledge on a variety of knowledge with different car companies, the ability to diagnose the problem quickly and repair it fast and to perfection.
