Chapter 1 INTRODUCTION The connecting rod or con rod connects the piston to the crank or crank shaft. Together with the crank, they form a simple mechanism that converts reciprocating motion into rotating motion. As a connecting rod is rigid, it may transmit either a push or a pull and so the rod may rotate the crank through both halves of a revolution, i.e. piston pushing and piston pulling. In modern automotive internal combustion engines, the connecting rods are most usually made of steel for production engines, but can be made of T6-2024 and T651-7075 aluminum alloys, or titanium. There are different types of materials and production methods used in the creation of connecting rods. The most common types of connecting rods are steel and aluminum. The most common type of manufacturing processes is casting, forging and powdered metallurgy. Connecting rods are subject to tension and compression loads. A connecting rod is an engine component that transfers motion from the piston to the crankshaft and functions as a lever arm. Connecting rods are commonly made from cast aluminum alloy and are …show more content…
Luri et.al this work deals with the design of a set of dies employed to manufacture a connecting rod by forging a billet of nanostructured aluminum alloy. Nanostructured parts exhibit excellent mechanical properties compared to the nonnanostructured alloys. In this paper, two set of dies are designed to perform a two stroke forging process and to obtain the desired nanostructured part. The first step to manufacture nanostructured parts is to employ a Severe Plastic Deformation Process (SPD) to produce the nanostructured material. So, the SPD material is forged, generally by isothermal forging to produce the part. The flow behavior of a 5083 Aluminum Alloy (5083-AA) after the SPD process has been determined by experimental tests. Finite Element (FE) and Finite Volume (FV) simulations have been run by using nanostructured 5083-AA flow rule, in order to design the dies
When I say the words ‘totem pole’ what comes to mind? Do you picture big, tall poles reaching high into the sky with scary looking faces carved into them? Well that’s only half of the story behind the totem poles. The Native American culture expresses shame in various ways. The Native Americans were shamed in boarding schools, they shamed various other people with totem poles, and they feel shame with alcoholism. Boarding schools drained the minds and culture out of the Native Americans that were forced to attend them. Alcoholism is killing off the remaining Native American tribes that are still here.
Throughout history, there have typically been shifts from harmony to conflict between the three branches of American government. The framers of the Constitution created the executive, legislative, and judicial branches of government in order to form a system of checks and balances to prevent a single area of the government from becoming too powerful. This system of checks and balances has been accompanied by vast amounts of discord throughout its existence. The shifts in interbranch relations can be seen through Congressional deference prior to and during the beginning of the Vietnam War, Congressional resurgence after the Vietnam War, and a shift back to Congressional deference following the attacks of 9/11.
This rod coming from the gear box is attached to the steering knuckle (on the wheel closest to the driver e.g.. the left wheel on a left hand drive car). This motion causes the hub of the wheel to rotate around the vertical axis of the king pin. There is another universal joint on the hub in which a tie rod runs the entire width of the vehicle connecting the two hubs. This allows the two hubs to rotate in exactly the same amounts at exactly the same time so that the wheels will always be traveling in the same
Plastic fasteners have grown to become viable products for joining applications in various industries. They are regarded as suitable alternatives to metal fasteners, and are known for their flexibility, durability, and application versatility. The various material features and benefits makes them ideal products for applications in a variety of industries such as aviation, marine, automotive, construction, oil and gas, food and beverage, sewage plants, and heavy machinery.

It's not talked about often, but heim jointed arms are not really street minded. It's taking a low maintenance bushing and replacing it with a harsh solid connection that needs attention and occasional maintenance. What is the greatest feature of the new Corvette C7 Z06, aside from a great chassis, design and legacy? It’s the small block 6.2-liter V8 engine with a big supercharger on top. It provides 650 HP and 650 lb-ft of torque, which is an astonishing number. This LT4 engine is the evolution of a long line of Chevrolet’s small-block engines dating back to 1955. Despite the advanced technology other manufacturers use, Chevrolet is still faithful to its simple yet effective formula. It includes a single camshaft and valve lifters. In comparison
The crankshaft is a structural component which converts the linear piston movement into rotary motion while the force connecting rod is transformed to torque. Crankshaft consists of two web and crankpin on which connecting rod is connected. A crankshaft is subjected to several forces that vary in magnitude and direction (multiaxial loading). Bending stress and shear stress due to twisting are also common stresses acting on crankshafts. The crankshaft main journals rotate in a set of supporting bearings (main bearings), causing the offset rod journals to rotate in a circular path (translation movement) around the main journal centers. The diameter of that path is the engine stroke when the piston moves up and down in its cylinder.

Aluminum is one of a number of soft metals that scientists call "poor" metals. It can be shaped and twisted into any form. It can be rolled into thick plates for armored tanks or into thin foil for chewing gum wrappers. It may be drawn into a wire or made into cans. Aluminum is a generally popular metal because it does not rust and it resists wear from weather and chemicals. (Bowman, 391) Aluminum is an element. Its atomic number is thirteen and its atomic weight is usually twenty-seven. Pure aluminum melts at 660.2ºC and boils at 2500ºC. Its density is 2.7 grams per cube centimeter. Aluminum is never found uncombined in nature. (Bowman, 391) Aluminum is a very useful metal that is light, easy to shape and can be strong. This makes aluminum one of the most used metals in the world, right behind iron and steel. (Geary, 185) In its pure state, aluminum is quite weak compared to the other metals. However, its strength can be greatly increased by adding small amounts of alloying elements, heat-treating, or cold working. Only a small percentage of aluminum is used in its pure form. It is made into such items as electrical conductors, jewelry, and decorative trim for alliances and cars. A combination of the three techniques has produced aluminum alloys that, pound for pound, are stronger than structural steel. Some common metals used in alloys for aluminum are copper, magnesium and zinc.(Walker, 31) The added elements give the aluminum strength and other properties. (Newmark, 41) Aluminum is one of the lightest metals. It weighs about 168.5 pounds per cubic foot, about a third as much as steel which weighs 487 pounds per cubic foot. (Neely, 214) As a result, aluminum has replaced steel for many uses. For example, some ...
Ball Bearings rely on the rolling motion of hardened steel balls to absorb loads. This rolling motion produces far less friction than the sliding motion. These steel balls are held in circular rows between an outer and inner ring, which have raceways, or slots, grooved into them to guide the balls. Ball bearings are available in both filling-slot and no filling-slot types. Other types of bearings have developed from these basic designs, like double-row and deep groove bearings, to handle specific application. No filling-slot bearings have a deep uninterrupted raceway, which allows them to carry both high radial loads as well as moderate Thrust loads. Filling-slot bearings have more balls than no filling bearings of comparable size. This gives them a higher radial load capacity, but Thrust loads must be light.

There are many different types of alloys; some are so common that they carry on a life beyond their metal bases. For example, 65-90% of copper mixed with 10-35% of zinc create the well known alloy brass, which provides increased resistance to corrosion in things like instruments and

In today's society self doubt and low self-esteem are big contributing factors in many people’s everyday life. Every person has their ups and downs and will go through a time of despair at least more than once in a single life span, this is a period where we lose connection with our inner-selves and we desperately struggle to find a solution. Reconnecting with oneself can be described as finding oneself again after incidents that causes change. There are many ways to reconnect with oneself. People can connect with their inner self by reconnecting physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually.
