Chris McCandless was really inspiring for trying to find love/happiness in another country. Most people would disagree but I mean who would travel across the world to just be in peace and away from society. Some people might but most people would think Chris McCandless is ridiculous for doing what he did.But I admire the courage he took to just gather up all the stuff he needed and left home to a whole new environment.Chris McCandless was not just inspiring but he showed us how to just have peace with in ourselves because in his life he didn’t care about materialistic things he was just living in the moment doing what he loved .That shows us how to really appreciate life a little more and it also makes us think outside the box we have to go out there and do stuff we love to do.
McCandless had a great idea of getting away from all the negativity and lies from his parents. He did it in the most peaceful way of leaving home and just traveling across the

country barefoot McCandless didn’t care if people thought he was crazy .There was something about McCandless that i really admired and it was how adventurous he was in going to Alaska .It was a whole new environment that he was looking for .He thought that Alaska was the right place for him.Chris just wanted to be away from the city and be on his own in the wild. Many people say a lot of bad things about Chris McCandless that probably not even true. For example Shaun Callarman said a lot of things about McCandless like he was an idiot for doing what he did.But i believe everything he did was for a reason.Shaun Callarman said “that Chris had no reason to be in Alaska”.I think that if Chris wanted to be in Alaska it’s no one else’s choice but his own where he wants to be .Others should just support Chris’s decision for what he wants in life.Everyone should do what makes them happy.
Chris McCandless had such a heart on wanting to live a peaceful life, nothing could stop him from getting there. He had to overcome some obstacles.McCandless had to speed up the process so he hopped onto a moving train to get closer to Alaska.By doing that he was also beaten by a man and his guard dog.Once he got closer to alaska he had to climb a humugous mountain which took him a lot of courage.Once he got on the other side he had to cross the water to get from point a to point b so he
did. There was many articles saying they do not admire Chris for what he done but others may disagree with that statement.A lot of people admire him for all the risk he had to take to make it where he wanted to be.To be completely honest it takes a hell of a lot of motivation to get across the country to just be where he dreamed of being. The things Chris McCandless has done were really sketchy.Chris had to jump into random peoples cars, trains and more.It seem like Chris lived by the rules “just do it now and ask questions later”.Since he lived like that he was able to conquer anything that would get in his way and if that doesn’t make anyone admire him they I don’t know what will.
McCandless was different to other people, Westerburg saw this, explaining how McCandless ”tried too hard to make sense of the world. To figure out why people were bad to each other so often”(18). When McCandless originally left, he had felt betrayed by his parents and in college he slowly started pushing his friends away. He was disgusted by all the lies and began to shut down and came the plan to leave in his Datsun. Anybody else in his place would have decided to take charge and take a decisive turn turn in their life, hoping it would be for the better. Many don 't realize that although the beginning he was escaping, he later preferred living in nature and didn 't want to stop. He said it himself in a letter “ The freedom and simple beauty of it is just too good to pass up”(33). Also, in McCandless story you’re able to see the evolution of McCandless mentality. At first, he is alone trying to cope with the setbacks he encounters, in which he almost dies from. Then, needing to recharge, he makes friends like Franz and the Westerburg that allow him to see the positives of having someone there for you. However, he still was not convinced that human relationships were necessary, he keeps a safe distance sending them postcards when he can. It is not until at Alaska that McCandless discovers what happiness consists of, he writes in bold letters, “Happiness only
Chris McCandless was a young man who did everything in his power to try and represent that freedom he was searching for. McCandless had everything before we went out but he decided to go out and travel by choice. He was considered a selfish man because when someone offered him to help him he rejects it in a nice way since we wants to do things himself. In the book Into the wild he states that,"You don't need to worry about me. I have a college education. I'm not destitute. I'm living like this by choice."
Although Chris McCandless' life at home growing up was hounded by his so called "ignorant" father or his "bigot" parents, made the best out of his life whenever he could. He was on the cross country team when he was younger, and they all ran out into the wild almost, purposely getting lost. Being on that team and experiencing that made him happier and started his interest and passion for embracing nature. Chris even found solace and was content with providing food, such as hamburgers, stated by his cross country teammate Eric Hathway, providing company to people less fortunate than him. Taking hikes with his grandfather and doing things as mentioned previously (cross country), eventually influenced him to make his greatest adventure and unbeknownst
...elligence to help him last an extended period of time in the Alaskan wilderness. In truth, McCandless was someone who wanted to find himself. He wanted to get away from a life in which he could not find fulfilment, which is something many others would be able to relate to. Although most people would not go to such extremes to find fulfilment, everyone has a different way of finding happiness and going after what their heart truly desires. For McCandless, his desire was to live out in the wild. Unfortunately, this man of great character did not succeed in getting out alive. However, that does not change the fact that he tried. McCandless knew what he wanted for himself and he persisted, regardless of the obstacles he faced. He put an incredible amount of effort into accomplishing his goals and never gave up, and that is why Christopher McCandless is someone to admire.

...s was at peace. Chris McCandless died happy and at peace with life because of the all the sights he had seen, all the people he had met, and ultimately the goal he had wanted to achieve was at his fingertips. He did not make it out of the “Great Alaska,” but he died trying. He had survived one hundred plus days. He had walked all over America. He had met some amazing tramps along the way. He had caused heartbreak, but he helped thousands. I believe, based on the fact that he stated he would write a book upon his return, all he wanted to be a legend and have a legacy. He did just that. Chris has died over ten years ago, and here I am in the tenth grade learning about his eventful life. Chris ‘Alexander Supertramp’ McCandless had lived an eventful life in his twenty-four years of living than most do in their one hundred years of life. His legacy will live on forever.
Was he a reckless idiot? That is the big question. This is what people always seem to talk about when they talk about Chris McCandless. There are many people who think that Chris McCandless was a reckless idiot who was mentally ill, or something else was wrong with Chris. It seems that almost everybody that met Chris thought maybe Chris was crazy or had problems. Here are just a few things that people said about Chris and his state of mind. Pg 40 Zarza admits saying, "he was always going on about trees and nature and weird stuff like that. We all thought he was missing a few screws. Pg 42 Charlie said, "seemed like a kid who was looking for something." Pg 45 Burres said "I thought Alex had lost his mind when he told us about his 'great Alaskan odyssey, ' as he called it."
...emselves. They endure mosquitoes and rain and tough walking and bad river crossings and the possibility of bears. The burden the pilgrims carry to the bus is so heavy, laden with their frailties and hopes and desires, with their lives that don’t quite satisfy. Well, so many of them are young, and they’re lost, somehow, just as he was.” What makes Chris McCandless such a hero to young men is that he is easily relatable to those young men. As Neal Karlinsky writes of Chris McCandless,“McCandless tramped his way across North America determined to live completely free of the trappings of modern society. He was intoxicated by nature and the idea of a great Alaskan adventure — to survive in the bush totally on his own. In his last postcard to a friend, he wrote: "I now walk into the wild."
Some believe that Walter, McCandless’ dad, affair is what drove McCandless to his journey to the wild but during his journey he met a man who represented a father figure but was the opposite of his actual father. This man was Wayne Westerberg, grain elevator operator. Westerberg gave McCa...
To him, all those people, like Franz, Westerberg, and even Jim Gallien, all seemed like his family. Some of them gave him a place to crash for the night, gave him a job, and even assisted him on his journey, like giving him a ride. McCandless being nice and appreciative to all those people who have helped him throughout his journey shows how “saintly” he can be. Works Cited Into the Wild. Dir.
The New England Patriots were crowned champions of the Super Bowl in 2017. One of their key players is Wyckoff’s own, Chris Hogan. Chris Hogan was an Eisenhower graduate in 2003. He played football and lacrosse at Ramapo High School. Though it may seem like he had it all, Hogan took an unusual route to the NFL. Hogan was a relatively unknown part of the Patriots offense, but was important in their playoff run, playing alongside veterans Tom Brady, Rob Gronkowski, and Malcolm Butler under legendary coach Bill Belichick.
Chris McCandless was like any other human being. McCandless wanted to travel around the world and experience new things. Many of us can learn from being surrounded in nature and that is exactly what Chris was trying to accomplish and just like many of us he made a few mistakes.
McCandless is a very independent person, a person with high hopes, that has a lot of courage, and is a very brave man for going out by himself in the wild of Alaska of the Stampede Trail. Chris McCandless had a lot of courage on going to Alaska by himself at a young age. While Chris was at any city or anybody’s house, he was ready to go to Alaska. But while he was there, close to the end of his life, he left a note on the back of the bus saying, “S.O.S I need your help. I am injured, near death, and too weak to hike out of here i am all alone, this is no joke. In the name of god, please remain to save me. I am out collecting berries close by and shall return by evening. Thank you, Chris McCandless. August?” Chris McCandless was by himself at the time. He shows his courage because while by himself, he went back out even though he was near death. He went out for food. Food for his health. That shows how much courage he had for his trip. Chris McCandless encouraged many young men to ...
There once was a man who was very self-reliant, confident, and very brave. I believe man should be remembered by all across the world for his courage. This man was a person who died following his dream. Even though he might have been overconfident in self ability it is believed that he died happy because he followed his dream. This man’s name was Chris Mccandless. Chris Mccandless led a pretty simple upper middle class life even though he might have experienced some traumatic experiences when he was younger due to the abuse that happened in his family and getting use to a new family. Chris was also known to be very intelligent and good at many things. Although there can be various explanations as to why Chris Mccandless followed his dangerous
McCandless was a fearless human being. I think that most of the people’s ideologies and personalities have to do with how they were raised by the parents and everything that was taught to them. When a lack of love exists from a parent towards his child, a hate can be created without knowing it. McCandless could have gone away from society to escape reality or, for being in a place where he could find himself at peace. Either one, we can assume that he obviously had different ideas about civilization; the idea of having a life full of danger and adventure inspired and excited him.
