The New England Patriots were crowned champions of the Super Bowl in 2017. One of their key players is Wyckoff’s own, Chris Hogan. Chris Hogan was an Eisenhower graduate in 2003. He played football and lacrosse at Ramapo High School. Though it may seem like he had it all, Hogan took an unusual route to the NFL. Hogan was a relatively unknown part of the Patriots offense, but was important in their playoff run, playing alongside veterans Tom Brady, Rob Gronkowski, and Malcolm Butler under legendary coach Bill Belichick.

He transferred to Monmouth, and after a brief pause, restarted his football playing career. Though he was a senior, he still had NCAA athletic eligibility due to his ankle injury in his sophomore year. He was immediately making an impact for the team. He started as a receiver, but was moved to cornerback because of injuries on the team. Hogan finished the season with 12 receptions for 147 yards, 3 touchdowns, 28 tackles, and 3 interceptions. Though his performances raised some eyebrows, he was not invited the NFL combine. Hogan is a freak athlete though. As other NFL prospects performed in front at the NFL combine, with more media attention and scouts, Hogan worked out at Fordham's Pro-day in 2011. A pro-day is where scouts at that college or neighboring colleges compete in front of scouts so they can get drafted. Hogan at the pro-day smashed the NFL combine bench press record. The previous record was 23 reps of 225 pounds set by Billy Brown, but Hogan lifted an astonishing 28 reps of 225 pounds, an unofficial record. Hogan entered his first ever postseason playing on the field. This was a big opportunity for him, as the Patriots favored to win the AFC and the Super Bowl. In his first ever playoff game, Hogan caught all 4 passes directed at him and gained 95 yards. Then, in the AFC championship game, Hogan put on a show for America. He played very well with a healthy Tom Brady throwing him passes. Hogan caught 9 passes during the game. He also gained 180 yards. This jaw-dropping performance set a record. Hogan set a new NFL record with the most receiving yards in a playoff game by an undrafted player. In the AFC Championship game he was a part of a trick play called the flea flicker. It is where the quarterback takes the snap and hands it off to the running back, after running 5 yards forward he tosses it back to the quarterback and the quarterback throws far down the field to the wide receiver.
