Lord of the flies by William golding and hunger games by Suzanne Collins both explore the civilized and barbaric aspects of human nature. Throughout both texts, they delve into the idea that fear drives human instincts and because of fear, we are inclined to do anything in order to survive, even if it means to act like savages. Both texts also suggest that the desire of power can ruin us and can destroy any sense of our civility which could affect our society and the environment. In human nature, fear controls us as humans and puts us in a position which can make us violent or different. As human beings, it's our natural instinct to act like animals, given the right circumstances because both texts hint that, it's easier to regress into violence but harder to stay controlled and civilized. For example, in lord of the flies, jack was humble and cared for the groups safety more than his own, but as soon as he was challenged psychologically, he gave and resulted in total chaos and savagery, in the hunger games, thresh was put in a ‘'dog eat dog'' situation so he didn't hesitate for a second to act violently in order to survive.both texts show us that no matter how perfect or good we are, we as humans will always have the potential to regress and act in an uncivilized
