Essay About Same Sex Marriage

Alice: “Hey, did you watch the news last night? They finally approved same sex marriage in New York!”
Katherine: “Oh, yay…”
Alice: “What’s wrong?”
Katherine: “To be honest, I’m against that idea.”
Alice: “Why not? It doesn’t harm society in any way.”
Katherine: “It’s unnatural.”
Alice: “How is it unnatural?”
Katherine: “They can’t repopulate. Allowing gay marriage would only further shift the purpose of marriage from producing and raising children.”
Alice: “So? Who cares if they can’t have kids together? The only thing that truly matters in marriage is love. Not only that, same-sex couples help poor orphans because they usually rely on the option of adopting children.”
Katherine: “But children being raised in same-sex households isn’t an ideal environment!”
Alice: “How?”
Katherine: “Girls who are raised apart from their fathers are reportedly at a higher risk for early sexual activity and teenage pregnancy. Children without a mother are deprived of the emotional security and unique advice that mothers provide.”
Alice: “But having loving parents, a better home, and a proper education is a lot better than staying in an orphanage.”
Katherine: “It’s still culturally incorrect! Calling something marriage does not make it marriage. Marriage has always been a covenant between a man and a woman. Same sex marriage confuses children about gender roles and expectations of society.”
Alice: “Gay couples have just as much of a right to marry as heterosexual couples. Not letting gay couples wed is a form of discrimination!”
Katherine: “But it turns a moral wrong into a civil right!”
Alice: “How?”
Katherine: “A man and a woman wanting to marry and may be different in their characteristics is fine. The two individuals are still man and woman, and ...

...revenues due to additional tax break to homosexual couples in marriages.”
Alice: “It can also affect it in a positive way. Revenue from gay marriage comes from marriage licenses, higher income taxes, and decreases in costs for state benefit programs.”
Katherine: “What about the children? It confuses them about gender roles and expectations of society.”
Alice: “But it allows them to be more open and welcoming which can lead to less bullying of homosexuals. If they weren’t, there would be an increase of suicides. The acceptance of same sex marriage can give hope to homosexuals and can finally feel at ease with the others around them. We are equals in this world no matter what race. Why should we not be equals based on sexual orientation?”
Katherine: “I understand what you’re saying but in the end, it really depends on each of our beliefs.”
Alice: “Yeah, I guess so.”
