Dressed in a plain white and blue sari, Mother Teresa the savior of hundreds of children in Calcutta is honored for her kind heart and acts. She is known for helping out the poor children living on the streets of Calcutta, India. Seeing these children suffer made her uncomfortable so she decided to open up centers for them. Mother Teresa experienced a "call within a call" while she was surrounded by a slum, she decided to devote herself to help the poor and sick living on the streets of Calcutta and opened up centers for them people in need.
Mother Teresa was born in Skopje, Macedonia on August 26, 1910. Mother Teresa was a Catholic nun. Her real name was Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu, this was the name she was baptized with. When Agnes was eight years old her father died, the reason for his death is still unknown. Growing up, Agnes was very close to her mother, Nikola. Her mother participated in church events and was religious bent. She was raised in a strict Catholic family and her mother was very dedicated to charity work. Looking up to her her mother, Agnes was taught the same.

Her first charity was opened in 1971 in New York City. In February of 1965 , Pope Paul VI granted Mother Teresa the Decree of Praise, this led to Mother Teresa gaining more opportunities for charity. Mother Teresa dedicated her life to children living in the slums of Calcutta because that is what made her happy. She wrote, "Where is my Faith—even deep down right in there is nothing, but emptiness and darkness—My God—how painful is this unknown pain—I have no Faith—I dare not utter the words & thoughts that crowd in my heart—& make me suffer untold agony."
