Because Ernest J. Gaines primarily grew up on a plantation in southern Louisiana, Gaines learned folk ways and speech patterns that directly come from his culture. In order to capture the culture in his writing, he incorporates the bilingual of the Cajun-Creole speech to give greater authenticity to his writing. Additionally, Gaines’ selective use of dialect and his judicious rendering of the speech patterns enable him to maintain a simple, lucid style.
Although the chosen writer’s style structure is similar in Saint Monkey and “Trilobites,” the writer’s voice and word choice is different. The structure that an author has chosen is important for a author because of the way the story has happened. After reading the biographies of both Breece D’J Pancake and Jacinda Townsend, I realized that even growing up in different parts of the region is different. Both authors’ of Saint Monkey and “Trilobites” grew up in different states and had different lifestyles which has an effect on the writer’s writing
Edward O. Wilson, the writer of this satire, writes about the opinions of two disagreeing sides to demonstrate the unproductive nature of these litigations. To do this, the author writes in a horatian manner and uses instances of exaggeration, parody, incongruity, and irony to help him convey his message that these arguments are pointless. The well distributed use of these strategies allows the writer to efficiently illustrate and mock the unproductive disagreement of these two groups of people.

I chose this word because the tone of the first chapter seems rather dark. We hear stories of the hopes with which the Puritans arrived in the new world; however, these hopes quickly turned dark because the Purtains found that the first buildings they needed to create were a prison, which alludes to the sins they committed; and a cemetery, which contradicts the new life they hoped to create for themselves.
The play, Fences was written by an American author August Wilson in the 1983. This play takes place in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania during the 1950’s which happened before any major work regarding the civil rights movement was noticeable. The play is about a man named Troy Maxson, who is a fifty-three year old who works in the sanitation department. His son Cory wants to play football and does not let him pursue his dream because he doesn't want him to get hurt. August Wilson’s play, Fences, follows the formal conventions of its genre, which helps convey the story to the audience because he uses stage directions, theme, symbolism, and figurative language.

Richard's mother, a school teacher, did her best to support the family but her income was not enough therefor Richard was often sent to an orphan asylum for various intervals of time. Just before Richard's tenth birthday his mother became paralyzed and moved in with relatives in Mississippi. At fifteen he began working in Memphis as a porter and messenger. The shadings have not been done in a haphazard fashion, or by guesswork; but painstakingly, and with the trustworthy guidance and support of personal familiarity with these several forms of speech. Gaines technique allows the characters to reveal themselves and their relations with others. We hear the story through the voices of the old black men, a black woman, a child, and the white narrators. We not only see the conflicts of the blacks, but also the conflicts of the Cajuns as well.
The story of Tom Sawyer helps readers understand further about the theme for it gives evidences of man's inherent imperfection. The story started with a catchy exposition as the writer uses diction within Tom and Aunt Polly's conversation. After tiring herself of looking for Tom for a long time, Aunt Polly finally found Tom hiding in her closet. "' Tom? Tom?'... A slight noise behind her and she turned just in time to seize the boy... 'What you been doing' in there?'...'Nothing'...' Look at your hands and your mouth. What is that truck?'... ‘I don't know Aunt'... 'Well, I know its jam. Vernacular storytelling is an important aspect of not only American short stories but in American history itself. Vernacular speech portrays the awful but true themes of racism, southern life and post-Civil War struggles in an intriguing manner. When first reading A True Story, Repeated Word for Word as I Heard It and The Goophered Grapevine the themes may not have appeared similar but through the use of vernacular storytelling both Twain and Chesnutt give an accurate account of racial inequalities. As seen in both, A True Story, Repeated Word for Word as I Heard It and The Goophered Grapevine the use of dialect literature helps preserve this serious issue of racism, found prominently in post-Civil War history.
