Environmental sustainability is the ability of a country, people living in that country and business to sustain/maintain as well as protect the resources that re highly valued in the physical environment. Example of this can be sustainability of human life, the natural environment that provides water, air and a conducive climate.
Corporations as a whole should not only be concerned about using less energy or reducing their current waste they produce. Corporations should be in the process of developing strategies that will make the company completely sustainable in the future. This could either be seen in two ways. By creating a strategy that looks towards the future, a corporation or even a country can have an advantage that other businesses

Instead of people using their cars to get to work, a country should upgrade their transportation system and improve their taxis, buses and trains just like the Japanese did. To the point where car owners will be taxed for driving their cars into the city centres like the British government does. Also there should be a promotion of using hybrid cars.
The good thing about environmental sustainability is that it makes a business look at its long term impact rather than its short term gain. Looking at the extract, corporations can engage themselves in several sustainability activities. There are four possible levels:
- Basic level: This is when a business just meets the basic compliance. This type of participation should be frowned upon as businesses should do more for the environment since they are the ones using most of the natural resources.
- Currently attainable levels: this is when a corporation acknowledges certain benefits to engaging in sustainable activities, such as corporate image being put in a great

There are various different ways to be sustainable and there has been an emphasis to have an approach for people. Due to the human population growing exponentially, human beings can help in attaining environmental sustainability. This could be done in terms of switching off appliances that are not needed, using hot water wisely, choosing energy efficient products, insulating their houses, reuse and recycle materials, taking public transportation, utilising a car pool system and even walking or cycling to walk if you live close by.
The government can also ensure that they invest in education which will provide people with the necessary knowledge in how to conserve. Also invest in housing, where a subsidiary will be given for acquiring a solar panel. Policies must be changed for the following ideas to happen. It is only for the benefit of the country to have a sustainable energy plan in place. If government have stringent environmental laws it will force businesses to ensure they are in line in terms of regulation or they will face heavy penalties. Ideally, government should also have an incentive scheme that will encourage businesses to not only meet but to surpass what is expected of
...onetary value, but in the end would make them fully sustainable. Third and finally, by continuing to offer financing and capital for new green energy sources and other companies to improve sustainability would not only help them reach their own green goals, but provide others with the ability to be fully sustainable.
With forward movement in society, it is important to consider not just what will propel most toward success, but also what will help to sustain the environment along the way. What may have been considered appropriate decades ago, may no longer be socially acceptable due to the changes observed in both the business world and the environment (Fiske, 2010). Therefore, it is important for organizations thriving in today?s economy to consider how they may capitalize most effectively from their product or service of choice while minimizing or eliminating any damages along the way (Knoke, 2012).
Environmental sustainability is when a person, community or area is able to meet the needs of the present, without compromising the needs of the future. Overconsumption will lead to hardship in the future, and possibly to the destruction of the planet’s finite resources; and if we continue using our resources as at current rates, which have been estimated to be 4 planets worth of resources, this will be inevitable. Populations are all the inhabitants of a specific area/country and this population can be controlled in various methods such as population policies, like the ones in China, Kerala and France; as well as control via migration by putting on limits.
Nations focus on growth as a progress for the country. Yet to be sustainable as defined by Merriam-Webster dictionary, a: able to be used without being completely used up or destroyed [or] b: involving methods that do not completely use up or destroy natural resources [or] c: able to last or continue for a long time, also indicates a steady progress. Still sustainable nations are few and far between. Sustainability does not meet the definition for growth desired by nations. Instead many nations see it as limiting economies and hurting the pocket books.
Jared Diamond, in his essay “Will Big Business Save the Earth?”, argues that even though multi-billion dollar corporations generate massive amounts of waste, they are also capable of being forerunners in support of environmentalism. Without a doubt, Diamond makes it very clear to the reader that, originally, he was of the opinion that big corporations were incapable of minimizing their impact on the environment, due to their purely financial drive to accumulate revenue for their investors. But when he became a board member of environmentalist outfits like the World Wildlife Fund and Conservation International, he was given the task to assess the environmental impact of various companies across differing economic sectors. While there were indeed some that made a huge negative impact on the environment, in his research, Diamond noticed that were a sizeable number of companies that excelled greatly in being more cautious in how they affect the environment. Of these companies, he takes note of
Environmental: Environmental sustainability contains ordinary resources that humans want for monetary investment. Resources occupied from environment are used for resolutions that fulfill human needs. If natural surroundings are washed-out more rapidly than it can restore, human beings will be left lacking of raw materials.
It will be advantageous for the company if they can project themselves as responsible corporate citizen and an environment friendly company. Social enrichment schemes, recycling schemes and educational funds can be initiated to cater to this cause and long term goal.
Recent years, government have been focusing on the importance of innovative ideas towards a greener future as there is an increase attention towards environmental consciousness among social groups working towards sustainability of the environment. Funding and incentive scheme has been setup by the government authorities to help various companies to work towards a clean and green city that could help with future economic growth in Singapore. A total of 35 government funding
In conclusion, I have to say that there is a solid invisible relationship between impacts of businesses on environments, profitability of sustainable business, and responsibility of business. When one of these ones changes, it will effect to others. When a business adapts efficient and sustainable system, it will reduce negative externalities and increase positive externalities to environment. Once the business adapted efficient business model, it will reduce cost and maximize its profits. Obviously, the sustainable and efficient business model will make the business social more responsible to environments.
In 2008 according to United Nations “majority of the world population lives in the urban” ("LINKING POPULATION, POVERTY AND DEVELOPMENT"). That does not hide the fact that people are still suffering from poverty, hunger and malnutrition. The issue of poverty is rapidly increasing, and it is because of the economic instability cause by overexploitation. That is why many poor children have nothing to feed their growling stomachs and nourish their dry bones. In order for us to put a stop to poverty and fix the economy, we need to start taking good care of the environment by practicing environmental sustainability.
Sustainability means “meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs” (Heizer & Render, 2014). Sustainability is more than just going green; it also focuses on customers, reputations, employees, and many more important factors. After searching the Internet for a company that claims to use sustainable business practices I found the company Wal-Mart. Even though Wal-Mart has a long way to go, the company does consider the importance of their decisions. The company does focus on energy, waste, their products, and responsible sourcing.
Sustainability is a concept with a diverse array of meanings and definitions – a widely used glamorous, ambiguous, ambivalent and vague concept that is used by different stakeholder groups in various ways. Presumably to avoid noodling over a terminology or to avoid the confrontation with a definition, most widely the concept is broken down a planning process (c.f. e.g. Döring & Muraca, 2010). That is why most common sustainability is understood as sustainable development.1
In recent years, business or green business was no longer an option to become an obligation. Companies started to change their mindset and values to develop new environmental proposals, for example launching second ecological lines.
Business sustainability consists of three components, these are: social, economic and environmental. The business has to consider these three components as the business must make a maximized profit (economic) but must not in any way damage the environment in the long term (environmental). The business must also take care of social issue and people and communities as they are support the business.
Sustainable development refers to not only meet the needs of contemporary people, but also not compromising the ability of future generations to meet development needs.Sustainable development and environmental protection have established contact, not the same. Environmental protection is an important aspect of sustainable development. The core of sustainable development is development, but requires strict control of the population, improve population quality and protect the environment for the conduct of economic and social development under the premise of sustainable use of resources.
