1. What being an entrepreneur is?
According to Forbes, being an entrepreneur is not about starting a business or the person but rather it’s about a set of characteristics which is a way of thinking and doing things: innovative and creative, flexible and adaptive, active and dynamic, someone who thrives in an unstructured environment, people and team focused, prudent with costs, decisive.
Everyone might have some or most of these characteristics but being entrepreneurial is about taking nothing and making something out of it. They pursue opportunities and are relentless in making things happen even with resource constraints. (www.forbes.com)
2. The South African economy
The South African economy has slowed down to a four year low where GDP growth has only been 0.7% in the last quarter. The biggest contribution to this slowdown has been the car manufacturers and mining sector strikes and its impact on production. This accounts for almost 10% of the economy. The weaker rand is fuelling inflation falling by nearly 25% against the dollar. This has led to an increase in interest rate by 50 basis points. Fuel price is also increasing at the beginning of February by 39 cents having a negative impact on food prices increasing.
Moody’s rating of the future remains bleak due to both government and consumer over spending. Unemployment in South Africa is a huge concern as than 50% of South African aged between 15 and 24 are unemployed. According to the International Labour Organisation (ILO), "... compared to adults, young people today are more than three times as likely to be unemployed ... (and) being without work means being without a chance to work themselves out of p...

... ways to promote entrepreneurship in South Africa, we still have a long way to go where the environment and socio-economic situation is conducive to growth of young entrepreneurs. In my chosen field of study, the barriers to entry are high within the Aviation vertical. However, there is still a skills shortage of black pilots in South Africa. There is a window of opportunity to seek funding either from the Private or Government sector. In essence, entrepreneurship is more around the characteristics of a person rather than the profitability. Based on my SWOT analysis, I am determined to make my career goal a success in the future.

An entrepreneur is an individual that organizes and operates a business or businesses, taking a greater financial risk to do so. They bring innovative products or services to the marketing world. They start a business on their own agenda and usually spend plenty of money supporting their company. Many entrepreneurs have characteristics of being confident, drive, and responsible.
An entrepreneur is someone who recognizes an opening in the market for a product or service and carries it out using initiative. Usually being innovators ; entrepreneurs are risk takers in means of not knowing whether their ideas will in fact succeed (Business Dictionary, 2016). Fashion leaders are considered entrepreneurs because to be strong in the fashion industry one must attempt to stay ahead of competitors and know what is already out there as would an entrepreneur. One of Australia’s most successful fashion designers could also be considered an entrepreneur; Collette Dinnigan is an award winning fashion designer who has exhibited in London and Paris and was the first Australian to launch a ‘ready-to-wear’ collection, as well as being
I have throughout my career as a high school student made sure to develop certain key qualities that will make me not only a great future leader but always a skilled entrepreneur. I see myself as someone who is determined, hard-working and above all else
“There is no one definitive profile of an entrepreneur. Successful entrepreneurs come in various ages, income levels, gender, and race. They differ in education and experience. But research indicates that most successful entrepreneurs share certain personal attributes, including: creativity, dedication, determination, flexibility, leadership, passion, self-confidence, and smarts." (Principles of Entrepreneurship)
Entrepreneurship incorporates unconstrained imagination and a readiness to settle on choices without strong information. The entrepreneur may be driven by a need to make something new or assemble something unmistakable. As new ventures have low achievement rates, the business person should have impressive tirelessness. Because of this, the entrepreneur may have the best risk of achievement by concentrating on a business sector corner either too little or too new to have been commanded by built up organizations.
This paper examines the myths associated with what it takes to be an entrepreneur, the profiles and the common characteristics among these successful entrepreneurs.
Entrepreneur's should have a strong drive to successes and overcome obstacles. Confidence and strong will are must. An entrepreneur should be sharp and always think of ways to run their business flexibly .Another important quality of a successful entrepreneur is being adaptable to
The increase in prices is known as inflation. This macroeconomic objective aims at keeping prices as low as possible. Economists normally would like to understand the changes of what is happening in the purchasing power of consumers. The price stability can be measured by looking into the (CPI) which is the index of the prices of representative basket of consumer goods and services. According to StatsSA, (2016) the inflation rate averaged 9.27 percent from 1968 to 2016. Consequently, the report states that the consumer prices index in South Africa increased by 6 percent year-on-year in July of 2016.The economists however, argue that the inflation figure obtained was one of the lowest ever experienced by south Africa due to the fact the cost of electricity and fuel remained constant. This shows that South Africa at the moment is currently doing well; however only because inflation is very dynamic and changes so it can not be guaranteed that it will remain the same
The entrepreneur is defined differently across many platforms they all share some commonality (Davison, 2008). This commonality consists of certain traits such as risk taking, innovative thinking, and an opportunity-seeking mindset to create, improve or expand a business (Davison, 2008). The entrepreneur functions as a promoter to the generation of wealth (Davison, 2008). The entrepreneur is important for the movement of the market and constant challenge to the status quo, indirectly improving all related business involved.
The success of a business is greatly dependent on its entrepreneur. An entrepreneur is someone who takes the financial risk of starting and managing a new business venture. In order to be a successful entrepreneur, one must be ready to take a risk and invest one’s own savings into a business. The job requires that the individual be ambitious and committed to working hard in order to achieve the set targets. A successful entrepreneur is able to multi-task and communicates effectively with people, possessing leadership qualities such as confidence and motivation. The individual must play the role of constant motivator and inspire employees to improve their work performance, whilst ensuring a comfortable environment for the employees to work in. According to Schumpeter (1982), an entrepreneur is more of a ‘heroic’ than an ‘economic’ figure; his motivation should not solely be monetary, rather stemming more from inspiration and ambition.
Nowadays, entrepreneurship becomes most popular career, where our government encourages our graduated student to involve in business so that unemployment will not happen in our country. Policymakers, academics, and researcher agree that entrepreneurship is a vital route to economic advancement for both developed and developing economics (Zelealem et al., 2004). Entrepreneurship has many types for example small business and others. Today small business, particularly the new ones, is the main vehicle for entrepreneurship, contributing not just to employment, social and political stability, but also to innovation and competitive power (Thurik & Wennekers, 2004).
An entrepreneur is someone with the capacity to lead a business to success and is willing to take the risks in order to accomplish their goals. (Dollonger, 2002). Starting a new business is an example of entrepreneurship. Entrepreneurs are very important in order for any business to succeed, however, only some entrepreneurs will succeed in life. Here are some of the characteristics of successful entrepreneurs.
Driven by an intense commitment and determined perseverance, entrepreneurs work very hard at what they do. They excel and want to win. Entrepreneurs are amazing people with a high respect of character. They use their mistakes as something to learn from rather than a failure. No matter the outcome, they believe in themselves and have an extreme confidence not only in themselves, but also in what they do.
Being an entrepreneur, is advanced citizenship, you have to want it real bad. Entrepreneur is not entitlement. Being an entrepreneur is a life commitment. Like in the movie Wall Street, a famous line was "You can 't be a little bit pregnant." The fact is you can 't be an on again, off again entrepreneur.
Many people dream of becoming entrepreneurs someday. But it made me realize that there other factors that needs to be taken into consideration. We need to ask ourselves are we ready to take the challenge to the outside world. Not everyone have the vision, innovation and creativity to become an entrepreneur. The individual must have a positive attitude and accept the responsibility, have discipline to meet their goals, and take action when the opportunity presents itself. Many prefer a job security and rely on a weekly paycheck, while entrepreneurs will take risks and doesn 't have that luxury to know the amount of their income.
