English: The Great Melting Pot Of The World

The United States of America is known around the globe as, “The Great Melting Pot” of the world, due to the diverse population of people who have come from all different walks of life. Many people assume that English is already the official language of America. These people would be assuming wrong. American people will say to immigrants, “Do not come to America if you are going to complain about Americans not knowing the immigrant’s native language.” It is true most Americans speak English, but most countries have English as their first or second language as well. However, “The Great Melting Pot” of the world should not declare an official language since there is clear evidence that English is not the first language of America, and America welcomes anyone to come join the great country. The proof that America has always been a melting pot is proven by its own history. Many American children learn in their America encourages immigrants to come over to join its melting pot; for example, an article written by USA Today, “A Wall of Honor at New York 's Ellis Island marks the spot where more than 12 million immigrants in the early 1900s entered the USA in search of a better life” (qtd. in "Debate” 06A). Descendants of these immigrants honor their relatives for showing extreme courage when they decided to become citizens of America. This is just one reason that America is known for being, “The Great Melting Pot.” Also, American children have the option in schools for the education of other languages, such as Spanish, French, and Chinese. According to USA Today, “There is no question that being proficient in other languages in addition to English is extremely advantageous to an individual” (qtd. in “Debate”
