Peter is capable of love and compassion. The reason I say that he's capable of love is when he is saying goodbye to Ender Peter says, “kill some buggers for me!” Which shows that Peter has faith in his little brother and you can have faith in someone if you don't care or love that person. Another reason I say that Peter is capable of love is that he admits that he used to love Ender. But because Ender chooses Valentine and this makes Peter feel very angry and jealous. Peter is capable of love because he's felt love before.
Peter is also capable of compassion. Towards the end of the book, we learn that Peter has become the hegemon of the earth. The Hegemon is the leader of earth, my personal thoughts of what traits. A leader should have are
What is a key attribute of a strong leader? Would he be strong, bold, courageous, fearless? Magellan, a portuguese captain during the fifteen hundreds crossed the world through the Pacific Ocean, Atlantic Ocean and the Indian Ocean. Ferdinand Magellan did not deserve defense. He would treat his crewmen unfairly, put himself first, and was distracted from his goal. (Document A, B, C, D, E)
A developed relationship can be interpreted as one where the couple is interdependent, tolerant, and dedicated. Equity allows a relationship to efficiently develop in this manner. Judith Viorst illustrates a poem depicting a couple’s struggles and their sacrifices for the other in “True Love”. In many points of the poem, the couple is compromising for the other’s flaws in order to avoid unnecessary conflicts. “I do not resent watching the Green Bay Packers / Even though I am philosophically opposed to football” (Stanza 1) is an example of the wife forcing herself
...ly, Ender is compassionate because he feels pain when he unknowingly commits Xenocide, Valentine is also compassionate because she tells Ender she loves him no matter what he does, and lastly, Peter is not at all compassionate because he causes pain for fun. Secondly, Ender and Valentine are selfless because Ender commits his life to learning about the buggers and Valentine stands up for Ender despite the dangers, while Peter wants to use Ender to gain more power for himself, proving he is not at all selfless. Lastly, Peter embraces his manipulative ways, proving he is not remorseful, while Ender and Valentine both show they have deep remorse, Ender’s remorse coming from the pain he causes others, and Valentines from her newfound enjoyment for control and power. All things considered, Ender proves he is more similar to Valentine in personality than he is to Peter.
What characteristics do leaders embody? In today’s society, leaders convey strength and kindness with no attention paid to their downfalls. In A Separate Peace, Phineas is a leader with flaws, despite his high standing amongst others. John Knowles characterizes Phineas as a naive and daring static character in his novel A “Separate Peace” by employing dialogue, action, and Gene’s descriptions and feelings towards him.
Robert Nozick’s Love’s Bond is a clear summary of components, goals, challenges, and limitations of romantic love. Nozick gives a description of love as having your wellbeing linked with that of someone and something you love. I agree with ideas that Nozick has explained concerning the definition of love, but individuals have their meaning of love. Every individual has a remarkable thing that will bring happiness and contentment in their lives. While sometimes it is hard to practice unconditional love, couples should love unconditionally because it is a true love that is more than infatuation and overcomes minor character flaw.
Even in death, Peter cannot escape ridicule. At a time when everyone is supposed to celebrate his life and mourn his death, they are still mocking Peter. He is still the punch line to cruel jokes. At one point, a funeral attendee speculates that the reason the casket is closed is because “he was in there in a big wig and heels” (Doty 11/12). Peter was being judged at his own funeral. That is pathetic. No one should have to endure that, but Peter did. This poor individual was told that he “asked for it” (Doty 16). “It” is referring to death. He was just...
In the story, “Loves Executioner”, Yalom treats and old woman named “Thelma” that is overly obsessed with a man named Matthew, her former therapist from ten years ago. Yalom feeling though that he is drawn to the facets of her dilemma decides to do everything he can to empower Thelma move past the obsessions that had been wrecking havoc on her mental health. Although Thelma’s love obsession with her therapist, and her subjective experiences on life of what is preventing her from living in the present, Yalom attempts to treat a 70-year-old woman only to learn that being love executioner more complicated as he had anticipated.
Empathy is the last characteristic a leader should have that is listed. A leader should definitely be able to understand and share feelings with their men. “ deathly pity ran me through at that sight-- far the worst I ever suffered.” This quote from the Odyssey shows that Odysseus deeply cares about his men, so when Scylla ate six of his best men he felt great despair hence the words “the worst I ever suffered.” No one wants a leader who does not care if anything happens to them, they want someone who will listen and protect
In life, a man or boy may feel attracted towards a certain lady, sometimes before he knows what kind of person they are. This is most often called a crush, and is based almost solely off of looks. “Crush” in this context is a recent term, but the concept is not. In Shakespeare’s “Much Ado About Nothing”, an example of this can be seen through the character of Claudio. After returning from the war, he is enamored by a young woman named Hero, who barely speaks yet seems to knock him senseless all the same. His display of affection is superficial and immature, and shows that although the term was not the same, the concept of a “crush” was prevalent even in Shakespeare’s day.
In Aldrous Huxley’s A Brave New World, pleasure is the main driving force in life. The government uses tools such as the wonder drug soma and the endorphins naturally released during and after sexual intercourse to keep the minds of their well-tended flock off of matters that might concern them if they had not previously been conditioned to resort to a vice the moment that they begin to conceive an ill thought. Lenina 's adulation of John, the Savage, is perhaps one of the more obvious triggers of soma usage within the novel. Lenina does not understand John 's concept of love, and attempts to show her affection in the only way she knows how, and that is by having sex with him. She thinks this is a normal act, but for him, it is sanctity. John believes that one should only express their passion through sex if they are married as is the custom on the reservation. This leads John to call Lenina many obscene names and to send her into the tender arms of soma instead. She merely wishes him to reciprocate her advances, which she would take as meaning that he was happy to be with her. She simply wants the both of them to be joyous in their carnal revelry but “Happiness is a hard master – particularly other people 's happiness. A much harder master, if one isn 't conditioned to accept it unquestioningly, than truth” (Huxley 227, Brave New World). John and Lenina are very different people however, as Lenina tells Bernard “I don 't understand … why you don 't take
After entering into the statehood of married women, she starts searching for an ideal love. But very soon she realizes the pointlessness of her search. She finds the remedy worse than the disease. For example, she turns to a group of lovers when she fails to find or receive love from her large husband. But they said each of them, she does not love, she cannot love, it is not. In my nature to love, but she can be kind to you. What she needs is not kindness but love. They only toy with her physical body and do not fulfill her spiritual needs.
Initially going into reading this play, I thought it would just be a traditional telling of the environment, setting, and little information about our protagonist. However, I seemed a little odd that the setting was just describing the scenery of the play itself with curtains and we are introduced to the stage manager for the play. The Stage Manager explains significant parts within the play like, scenery, landmarks, and certain objects. Few pages in, we’re finally introduced to two actual character in the play itself. Joe Crowell Jr. and Dr. Gibbs are the characters we are introduced to. As explained by the Stage Manager, Crowell was a college graduate from Massachusetts Tech. However, there was “the war” came to France. This war being World
Poets and philosophers for centuries have been trying to answer the question, what is love? Love has an infinite number of definitions, which vary from one person to another. Love cannot be measured by any physical means. One may never know what true love is until love it- self has been experienced. What is love? A four letter word that causes a person to behave in a way that is out of character. What is love? A first kiss, childhood crushes on a teacher or friend’s mom. What is love? A choice that people make by putting their partner’s wishes, desires and needs above everything else. What is love? The act of forgiveness, the infatuation with someone, the communication between two people. What is love? A friendship that turned into a lifelong commitment, that special someone who has vowed to spend the rest of their lives to honor and protect, to love each other “till death do you part.” When in love nothing else in the world matters. According to the online Encarta Dictionary love is the passionate feeling of romantic and sexual desire and longing for somebody. Poets and philosophers may never know what love really is, and we may never truly understand the question what is love.
KILLBUCK — A year ago it premiered on UPtv. And, this Valentine's Day, it will make an encore appearance on the big screen at the Duncan Theater. “Love Finds You in Valentine” was filmed in Holmes County — at a private horse farm, Millersburg's First Presbyterian Church, the Hotel Millersburg, the Victorian House, Walnut Creek Cheese and Breitenbach Winery— in May 2015. After the made-for-television movie appeared on the small screen, the Duncan Theater, in cooperation with the Holmes County Historical Society rolled out the red carpet for an April 2 showing of the movie.
“Love Poem” is a twenty-four-line poem in six stanzas. The generic tittle is an accurate description of the poem; it is a clue that this may not be a traditional example of love poetry. Both poems have the same rhyme scheme because the second and fourth line of every stanza rhyme. However, “Magic of Love’ speaks of a general love bringing happiness, joy and comfort. While “Love Poem” is much more personal. The speaker talks of memories with his clumsy love. Both poems have a different point of view when it comes to love. In Ferrier’s poem, she describes love as something perfect, that fixes everything. However, in Frederick’s poem, he doesn’t speak about what the love does right but rather he talks
