Endangered Species Study: Jaguars
I. The jaguars of Central and South America have been being killed for game and protection. This cat used to have homes around the United States to Uruguay, but ever since the fears of extinction the jaguars have moved to the undeveloped rain forests in Latin America. Jaguars are being killed due to many people fearing for their own lives and many are also being killed to protect cattle.
Jaguars do stalk and ambush their prey, however, they rarely ever attack man.
One of the main reasons that jaguars are still living is that they can adapt to many habitats, from tropical rain forests and swampy areas to scrub lands and grasslands. II. Jaguars are part of the life cycle of many species. Killing jaguars for protection and furs are ruining other species that live in the same range as them. These cats are of no harm to human life, most deaths that jaguars have had a part in were to protect themselves from being killed.
Many jaguars just disappear from the pressures of being killed. While the animal is trying to change habitats they have died. The rain forests that the jaguars inhabit are being torn down to open up lumbering, farming, livestock raising, and other activities carried out by humans. Killing a jaguar is taking away a life that is doing no harm to the eco-system. A jaguars' way of living is much like that of a human, you don't see jaguars killing humans for their skin. III. Any endangered specie, including the jaguar, has many different alternatives in which the government or a national group would have to be involved. There are several organizations that help the breeding and life of many species. One way of breeding a specific species would be to freeze sperm and embryos so that scientists may breed more of the species when they are close to extinction.
IV. I feel that the jaguar can be saved by forcing contractors to move their construction to a different place rather than a rain forest so that the jaguars
The bond between humans and nature, it is fascinating to see how us has humans and nature interact with each other and in this case the essay The Heart’s Fox by Josephine Johnson is an example of judging the unknown of one's actions. She talks about a fox that had it's life taken as well as many others with it, the respect for nature is something that is precious to most and should not be taken advantage of. Is harming animals or any part of nature always worth it? I see this text as a way of saying that we must be not so terminate the life around us. Today I see us a s experts at destroying most around us and it's sad to see how much we do it and how it's almost as if it's okay to do and sadly is see as it nature itself hurts humans unintentionally
“By the time we’re done, it’s quite possible that there will be among the great apes not a single representative left, except, that is, for us,” Kolbert deduces (225). Hunting a species has caused the endangerment and extinction of many species of animals and plants. Six out of eight species of the world’s bears are categorized as “vulnerable” or “endangered” to extinct (222). Advocating for rights of endangered species, and protecting the forests they habitat is a noteworthy method to prevent extinction caused by humans. As an individual, one could help by supporting and donating to organizations such as the World Wildlife Fund, the National Wildlife Federation, the Wildlife Conservation Society, and more (262). Humans may ease their conscience by not actively killing endangered species, but protecting them
Kristof begins his article by engaging his readers to answer a simple question, “Which large American mammal kills the most humans each year?” He follows that up with a list of animals known for their predatory nature such as the bear, wolf and cougar only to reveal the actual culprit is a deer. The way the question is presented it sounds misleading, as if the animal intentionally meant to do a human harm. Instead of using the word “kill,” perhaps the words “are involved with the deaths of” may have been more appropriate. In this way, they do not imply the death was intentional.
However, some aspects can be compared to today’s medicine. The apothecaries of the Elizabethan era can be compared to today’s pharmacists. The apothecary’s main role in the medical system was to provide drugs to the patient, much like a pharmacist (Patterson, White). Also, barbers can be compared to today’s nurses. The barbers were not allowed to perform certain medical procedures and their practices mainly consisted of only tooth-pulling and bloodletting (Patterson, White). In today’s time, nurses are allowed to do much more than draw blood and pull teeth, but are not allowed to perform as many procedures as a doctor. In addition, we still use natural substances as medication today. Then, “lung afflictions such as pneumonia and bronchitis were treated by liquorice and comfrey,” which is still used in bronchitis medicines that are used today (Patterson, White). Also, “stomach aches were treated with wormwood, mint, and balm,” which still holds true today, as many people chew mint gum when they have an upset stomach. Although the medical treatments and doctorate procedures were different from our present day beliefs, the Elizabethan era greatly influenced the medical
the most dangerous game. rainsford is one of the best hunters of all times. rainsford and his friend are arguing because rainsford thinks that jaguars don’t have feelings. his friend told him of course they do they at least have to feel fear when someone is shooting at them. rainsford kept with his own idea that jaguars didn’t have feelings and his friend tried to make him realize but he couldn’t, rainsford remained unsympathetic.
The Most Dangerous Game is a story of conflict. This is demonstrated throughout the pages of this gruesome tale. The story begins in the middle of blood-warm waters of the unforgiving Caribbean Sea. Two friends, Sager Rainsford and Whitney, are traveling to Rio de Janeiro to hunt the biggest cat in that region, the jaguar. Like most humans, Rainsford and Whitney pride themselves on being the hunters instead of the hunted. Though they differ because Whitney feels that the jaguar has feelings, and Rainsford believes it does not, this is the first look at conflict. Rainsford cold-hearted feelings for animals shows that he does not care about the creatures that he hunts, but is only into hunting for the sport of it.
The medieval period started in around 500 A.D. and ended in around 1500 A.D. It also took place mainly in Western Europe. (Medieval Medicine and the Plague, 4) Some of the knowledge that people of the medieval period used was passed down from the Greek and Romans. However, not all this knowledge was true. The Greek and Romans gave doctors of the medieval period the idea of the four humors (Medicine in the Middle Ages). Some of these idea from the Greeks and Romans were incorrect since they would not dissect bodies. Doctors and scholars of the medieval period would not dissect bodies, either. This was because it was considered cruel to treat a body like that. However, when they did start dissecting in the early 1300’s, they gained a better knowledge of inner organs. (Medieval Medicine and the Plague, 20)

... our way when we are trying to do something such as deforestations. We should respect living creatures in our world because they have a life they should enjoy. People never want to see the dark side of an industry which is why society doesn’t seem to care or be informed. What this reminds me of personally is the show Scooby Doo which is about monsters and teenagers investigating them, trying to figure out what it is and at the end of every show it’s always a human which gives a powerful message because at the end of the day humans are the monsters, are we the monsters today? We need to open our eyes before it's too late. Life is valuable and we need to cherish every moment.
After reading the Groundwork for the Metaphysics of Morals, I would say I agree with Kant’s philosophies on morals to a certain extent. I think he makes a lot of good points, but I don’t completely agree that there are never any exceptions to the categorical imperative in deciding what is moral. The way I understood what he was saying is that for something to be truly moral it must be done out of duty, and not for desires or emotions. He says the universal imperative of duty is “Act as though the maxim of your action were to become, through your will, a universal law of nature” (24). This to me means that if it were okay for everyone to act a certain way all the time then the action would be moral. Kant says that actions that are done for a
According to data from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, in 2011, the average American consumed nearly one ton of food, 1,996 pounds of food a year. That means that, a minimum of 1 in 4 people include some type of fast food in their menu on a daily basis. Junk food is a poison to health. Fat food is high in fat and sodium, which increase obesity risk and the possibilities of a stroke, diabetes and a coronary artery disease. Many people might be aware about the physiological side effects presented when eating fast food. However, the hidden truth about the real cost of cheap food does not only includes esthetics and evident things to sight, it goes far beyond to affecting our biosphere
civilization. I read an article about how a grizzly charged a man and his wife and he fired off
Over 25% of Americans consume fast foods every day and over $100 billion is spent on fast food every year. All you think of is the convenience of it and how tasty it is but have you ever wondered how it is made and what effects it has on you? Fast foods are prepared with high levels of sodium and fat, bringing people back for more and more. Fast food is a bigger part of the American diet than you may think. These frequently consumed meals bring many negative effects upon us, including health issues, a poor environment and social problems. People all over the world are suffering from obesity and heart diseases, two of the main causes of deaths today. Every breath you take may contain polluted air coming from chemicals used to make packaging for fast foods. Yet even with all this negativity towards fast foods, it does have a good side by bringing in money for the economy of the United States. Hence, with fast food consumption come not only the bad but also the good.
The rise in fast food restaurant chains can endanger the health and financial situation of the lives of the world’s citizens. The uncleanliness and all the unhealthy factors result in hazardous conditions for customers. Innocent children can catch an illness due to insanitation when careless employees neglect crucial responsibilities. Obesity and diabetes are primary risk factors one encounters as a result of junk food. Financial issues correspond with frequent purchases at restaurants. Fast food restaurants pose a dangerous threat against humanity.
In our world today we have approximately 26,021 endangered species. Endangered species are organisms that may possible become extinct. The term 'endangered species' refers to all species that fits this description. However some conservation biologists and scientists normally use the term ‘endangered species’ to refer to species that are put on the IUCN(International Union for Conservation of Nature)Red List. Many factors can be looked at when considering the conservation status of a species. Factors such as human threats or environmental threats can cause a species to become endangered.
