Electric Lineman The importance of an electrical lineman is huge, not only in the community but also in most of the world. Their education, training, and correct use of equipment help them in their different and dangerous work conditions to accomplish the tasks of providing power to their communities. To be a lineman one would first have to go through the apprenticeship program. The apprenticeship program involves approximately 7,000 hours of training over a four-year period and includes both classroom instruction and field training. So one would be earning while learning. Lineman apprenticeship programs typically require candidates to be at least 18 years of age before applying and to have a high school diploma also must have a CDL driver license since lineman move around big vehicles such as bucket trucks. Programs require candidates to have taken high school level algebra. Also it is very important to have common sense since working with electricity is very dangerous and overwhelming if one is scared of heights then this job is not for the one’s with acrophobia since this job requires climbing high poles and being lifted off the ground several yards by bucket truck (Parker). What an apprentice lineman does is help installation, maintenance of parts replacement repair of vehicles, industrial machinery, and electrical and electronic equipment. Perform duties as furnishing tools, materials, and supplies to other workers. Examine and test machinery, equipment, components, and parts for defects to ensure proper functioning. Adjust, maintain, and repair tools, equipment, and machines, and assist more skilled workers with similar tasks. It is important for an apprentice l... ... middle of paper ... ...milies are outside watching the lineman at work and seeing the families smile when the power is back that’s what makes it worth. Why be a lineman? Its cool, its different, its unique its dangerous and not just anybody can do it one is surrounded by a great group of co workers who are crazy at times, and that’s really what it takes to do this job one must be crazy. Also where else does one get to drive a 200 thousand truck and take it for a cruise Electrical lineman Hugo Mier says the three key skills of being a lineman is being a good pole climber being able to move fast when climbing a pole being physical fit being physically and mentally tough. The strengths of a good lineman is being a fast climber, fast learner and being able to complete the task that is assigned. 3 weaknesses are being in a rush, having lack of patience and having a negative attitude (hugo).
The Cons of being an electrical lineman is that you have to work in any weather conditions that mother nature throws at you. Also climbing to incredible heights, if you are afraid of heights this could be bad for you if you want to become an electrical lineman. Also dealing with high voltage could easily kill you if you touch it and are not wearing the proper clothing. Personally i do not plan on having this as career in the future, it’s not really my style of working. Heights is not a problem for me but i would rather work from the ground than being on a sketchy pole 50ft in the
The trauma of July 7, 2016 has forever impacted the lives of many North Texans like myself. Had that been a school night, I could have easily been nursing a bullet wound or lying in a casket today. The most

The Lincoln Electric Company is the largest manufacturer of welding machines and electrodes in the world. Since its inception in 1895 the company has been on a stable path of progress. First under the management of founder John C. Lincoln and since 1914 under James F. Lincoln, John's younger brother. One of James's early actions as the head of the company was to create a committee consisted of elected representatives by the employees of the company, that were to advise Mr James in the affairs of the firm. They were called the Advisory Board and this was one of the smartest decisions that James F. Lincoln made regarding personnel. This was one of their prerequisites to progress and success and this is what makes them unique to this day. James F. Lincoln died in 1965 and it is obvious some people thought that the famous Lincoln standards would no longer be upheld, that profits would decrease and their employee bonus-plan might cease to exist. Contrarily to what people thought, the company remained strong decades after its founding father died. Moreover, the firm has seen higher profits and bonuses every year after that. Lincoln market share which was 40 percent before, remained stable for years and years. The company's philosophy still continues to be
The bottom line is this: before you start any home improvement or repair project such as an electrical repair job, clarify any issues you have with the electrician you are hiring. It is also crucial that you put everything in writing before the job starts so everything is clear and make sure the whole project goes
Today in America, people see the war zones of Syria, Iraq and Turkey with all the families torn apart and do not think twice about it but for those in the war zones the struggle to keep a family together is hard. “You don’t involve any more Meekers in this terrible war,” (Collier and Collier 149). Mrs. Meeker has already lost half of her
Growing up I always had to deal with the fact that my father was involved in the military. My father was deployed twice: once in Germany, and later to Kuwait. I was only four years old when he first traveled and almost every day I asked where dad was. The second time I was fourteen, and I was devastated that my best friend wasn’t going to be home for a year. Both times he left, it was awful for my mom, my brother, and me because he was the one person that kept us together as a family and once he was gone we were just broken. A military family goes through more than a regular family does in a year. Those veterans have families, how do people think they feel. Children who live in a military family have a higher risk of depression, anxiety, and other mental issues. Although many people believe that we should send our soldiers overseas to keep our country safe, there is no reason why our
...though people believe that, those on the home front have it just as a bad as the soldiers, because they have to deal with the responsibilities of their husbands, there is nothing that can compare to what these men have gone through. The war itself consumed them of their ideology of a happy life, and while some might have entered the war with the hope that they would soon return home, most men came to grips with the fact that they might never make it out alive. The biggest tragedy that follows the war is not the number of deaths and the damages done, it is the broken mindset derives from being at war. These men are all prime examples of the hardships of being out at war and the consequences, ideologies, and lifestyles that develop from it.
Living in a time of war is not easy for anyone, and the expansive nature of the current war can make it even harder. Though many people in America may not feel as if they have been effected by the ongoing war, it is likely that everyone has in some way, shape or form. One group most effected are those who have loved ones serving in the military. People with family members that are serving have to face significant hardship and challenges as they cope with a person they care about being in danger. Being away means that family members often don’t have as deep of emotional relationships and while technology can sometimes make that easier, it can also be more frustrating. I don’t know where my uncle is now, and millions of others have the same issue. War truly is hell, for the people fighting and the families back at home. It effects everyone.
To some, proper maintenance of a vehicle is mundane, but in the fire service it is the pinnacle of consequence if left abandoned. All tasks are performed to foster confidence that the trucks crew will be able to perform their job with the utmost of safety. A unified effort in the proper inspection and upkeep of all fire apparatus allows for the knowledge that all fire personnel will be safe in the case of an emergency. A high standard of excellence encourages confidence in trustworthy driver engineers. As driver engineers make every effort to ensure the safety of the family of fire fighters inside the fire apparatus and the patrons that they have sworn to serve, this is the testament to true selflessness.
This is completed by taking state and certifying examinations. Training usually includes one to two years, including on the job experience and informal training. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, skills necessary are interpersonal skills, physical stamina, dexterity, detail oriented and compassion. It is only recommended that a student should at least major in an Associate Degree in Applied Science. A student can also acquire a bachelor’s degree, but it is not necessary for this career.
Since early 2003 the Electrical Inspectorate has been working to raise public awareness of Residual Current Devices (RCDs), with the aim of eventually enforcing the use of these devices as recommended by the standard adopted by the St. Lucia Bureau of Standards for wiring of buildings SLNS/BS 7671: 2001- Requirements for Electrical Installations ¡V IEE Wiring Regulations ¡V Sixteenth Edition. These Regulations though only recently adopted by the Bureau of Standards is the Regulations referred to by the St. Lucia Electricity regulations of 1973 as the standard of wiring of buildings. For a very long time the cost of these devices had proven prohibitive for the enforcement of the requirement. However, it is now believed that safety concerns as it relates to electrical hazards such as fire and electrocution far outweigh the cost of these devices
Are there any kind of certifications that I will need to obtain to become a lineman? Yes there are, but all of the certifications you will need will be offered in one major in college that partners with the company you work for. This makes it easier for the lineman, but the lineman class only accepts a limited amount of people every year, making this a very competitive major to get into. But, once you are successfully accepted to the program the only thing you have to do is give your all to graduate and you will become a
Working on tenders for the first few weeks was enjoyable for me as it did make me use all the techniques I learned at University in every stream of Civil Engineering that had been taught to us, namely; Geotechnical, Structural, Hydrology and Transport. I realise this might not be the same everywhere and usually Civil Engineers might focus on one type of stream, but I was happy that I had the opportunity to useall of my theoretical knowledge and applied them to real‐life
There are hundreds of occupation around the world, few of which anyone would want to do. Being an electrician is one of them.
