Effects of Violence in Movies, TV, and Video Games

Not everybody is totally resistant to violence. In fact, most people aren’t. Although most games, TV shows, and movies are rated to prevent children from witnessing inappropriate materials, studies are showing that kids ages 5 and up play video games with violence. These kids often experience bullying, violent behaviors, and educational problems due to their choices of entertainment. The amount of violence in movies, TV shows, and video games, as well as time spent participating in these activities, should be reduced.

There are many things that are wrong with violent video games TV shows, and movies we watch and allow our kids to watch. One area that is affected by these forms of entertainment is bullying. Acts of bullying are often shown in rated-M video games and R-rated movies. Kids pick up what others do in the most brutal games. For example, in Grand Theft Auto 5, children see characters punch others just for the fun of it. Nation’s Health says that most children who see violence are more likely to use it in their behavior.
