Globalization contributes towards sustainable prosperity within the fact of it is used to help maintain one country's quality of life, yet also, can hurt other countries at the same time with the after effects that can or rather will follow. This shows that Prosperity affects more than one country at a single moment for it harms citizens of the more eastern countries. While it improves a country such as Canada, or the United States to keep a prosperity that is sustained for generations to come. A way of interpreting sustainable prosperity is different for each and every person from another’s perspective could be where a single group is a prosperous or the whole country is prosperous, it all comes down to a perspective. Perspective at hand involves …show more content…
using whole countries instead of single groups and how it shows both positive and negative effects towards globalization's impact on Prosperity that is sustainable to all people within their respective nations. There is a question to keep in mind is, what are the positive outcomes that arise within the globalization of sustainable prosperity and also what are the negatives that also arrive with it. The more developed countries in the world shown that Canada, United Kingdom, United States, Etc. sustain their prosperity with simple resources that they consistently trade with. A more detailed example of such would be the oil and tar sands in Alberta, for it is not a sustainable Prosperity for it is unable to be maintained for generations on end, which impacts the world by lowering the value of oil across the planet therefore it is deemed unprosperous. Compare that to the farms in Canada that are consistently in use to stock up grocery markets that help to feed the citizens of their respective area, which in turn increases the prosperity due to the fact they can consistently plant or raise more Vegetables, Dairy, Meat, Grains Products to supply the demand for it. Other ways that Globalization is contributing to sustainable prosperity is the fact that it creates an opportunity for jobs to rise up and help add on to that prosperity. Another way of putting that would be of such where one individual gets hired at Tim Horton’s then all of a sudden there is an economic boom in oil for the sake of discussion, he at Tim Hortons makes about $11.20 an hour, where after he is asked to work as a fancy job title that makes a salary of about hundred fifty thousand dollars a year. That same economic boom goes into a recession where he loses his new job, where the prosperity of an unsustainable product has ended which in turns lowered his quality of life after it had increased it. Another way to interpret the point is where as a value of a non-renewable resource goes up it creates a false prosperity unlike if the value of a renewable resource goes up which can create a sustainable prosperity that can or rather it will affect the trade effect of it for the global market value is increased. Yet the complete opposite could happen instead where it goes downhill instead of increasing the prosperity that could have been sustained. It holds up on the impact that Globalization of a product does affect the prosperity and its sustainability. The Global after effect of a product can be devastating yet also helpful to developing countries across the world since it can play a vital role where it shows both bad and maybe inhumane problems and also can show positive of those same negative effects that arose.
An example of such is the digital wastelands that lie around in Bangladesh, where its harmful toxins that are being burned to create a profit from it in the unsafe working conditions with no labor laws, Unions, or even fair paying wages. Yet it shows that it did create jobs for those who could not afford anything to eat or drink, which in turn did help create a little bit of contributing towards the citizens. Of course, it is a bad thing that should not be done due to them already having a shorter life span the developed countries with the toxins making the life span of the citizens of Bangladesh even shorter in a state of false sustainable prosperity. Ship Breakers of Hong Kong are also suffering the same fate with the fact that they are working barefoot in metal shards and oiled filled beach where they take apart ships for a living. It does supply most of Hong Kong sustainable prosperity of steel as a resource yet also harms the citizens that are working on breaking down the ships for it shows just like in Bangladesh that there are no laws about labor and the unfair wages that also rise. Yet for Hong Kong sometimes it can lead to an improved quality of life for some individuals that are great at spotting such hard differences of telling the difference in simple iron. In India, they are entering a tech age where they are becoming more familiarized with computers where they are able to if they wanted to go on to a hard drive and take all of your personal info to blackmail or take your money. It does show that there are some countries that have a positive outcome from the excess stuff that citizens of most developed countries throw away, allowing the Globalization effect of it to stay for a second
round. Another way of viewing that is more and more countries are becoming more used to technology where they are able to help improve the sustainable prosperity of globalization that is contributing towards all people. It supports that with that, everyone is affected by prosperity due to there always been a global impact on it. Globalization and its link to all people within a sustainable, prosperous country are definable in simple terms of which they can be looked at where an increase of a domestic product results in a greater prosperity for all of that country. For a clearer example, one could view the use of wool from sheep and how it can be used in a consistent demand while also being able to be reused it within the same lifetime. It defines the fact of it being consistently used to increase the quality of life of an individual’s perspective at hand. It contributes to all for everyone is affected by the outcome, for if there is a sudden drop in quantity the value goes up making it so fewer people buy it upsetting the balance changing what becomes a prosperous state. Going back to the ship breakers in Hong Kong, where they had poor pay and no benefits of such, it did provide them with jobs that could be used to give the economy a kick-start to make a better life for everyone in Hong Kong. This could also be said that in Bangladesh, where the toxic wasteland of technology could also be a kick start in the use of becoming a more sustainable prosperous country. The only Primary difference between Hong Kong, Bangladesh, and Canada is that in Canada the technology is more advanced due to becoming a country later on in life adapting with rules that allow anyone to become famous with a single idea. The perspective of how the prosperity is viewed as also can affect how the sustainability connects with everyone for each country, yet each person has a different perspective that could be viewed as. For an example, take someone from a Middle Eastern country whose average day has worked 16 hours every day of the week, making about two to three dollars an hour, he meets someone from Canada who makes twenty dollars an hour. The Middle Eastern fellow would view the Canadian as a rich person while the Canadian only viewed himself as an average Joe in the perspective of prosperity. Sustainable prosperity does not just come down to a group, but also to an individual to achieve a true view of it connects with everyone in a globalizing perspective. Sustainable prosperity can do both a great service of increasing the quality of life of countries citizens yet still hum it in many other ways, such as ship breakers and the digital dumps in developing countries across the world. This, In turn, applied great detailed to how people view Prosperity on both of how it is interpreted in a sustainable way yet also economic view. It allows for globalization to connect all people one day in a worldwide Sustainable Prosperity, for if there is a will there is a way it can be done.
“To kill the Indian in the child,” this was one of the many atrocious quotes which were spoken during the peak of residential schools from 1913 to 1932. Residential schools were government-sponsored, church ran schools established to assimilate Aboriginal children into Euro-Canadian culture. This quote means what it simply says, to remove the Indian culture out of a child. There were many quotes which outlined the goals of residential schools in Canada; some of them as shown in source II for example, were made by Duncan Campbell Scott, the Deputy Superintendent General of the Department of Indian Affairs between 1913 and 1932. The quote depicts his Eurocentric views towards the Indians and his intentions on what to do with them. The first Source
One way that globalization limits sustainable prosperity is the amount of environmental destruction that occurs in our growing world. For example, a process called shipwrecking is the deconstruction of ships that are no longer able to function properly. The ships are pulled up onto beaches in Bangladesh and are taken apart by workers with blow torches. The ships tend to rust leaving the beaches a reddish orange color. This rust can get into the ocean affecting many other parts of our world. Also, gasses that are produced and released into the environment from the blowtorches help contribute to the already occurring global warming. Another scary fact is that there is nearly one death per day in ship breaking yards, and nearly one quarter of them get some form of cancer due to the harsh chemicals. Ship breaking is a very dangerous job and puts many lives at risk. A big factor that helps wreck the environment is the large manufacturing plants that are located in many different countri...
“Globalization contributes to sustainable prosperity for all people”. This quote contains mostly truth but there are also many arguments towards how globalization really does contribute to sustainable prosperity for people all around the world. This can be supported by three main points. How the rise of Japan’s economy effected the lives of millions of people. How shipwrecking effects the lives of both the ship companies and the workers in Bangladesh, and how economic growth contributes to the sustainable prosperity of the population in a specific nation. Sustainable prosperity can be defined differently from different individuals because of people’s personal opinions and their perspective is also effected by the people who influence their lives the most, but the main definition of prosperity is to have good fortune, or growth in an economic way. Globalization creates a gateway for sustainable prosperity to all people and gives people all around the world the opportunity to gain prosperity.
Globalization is a series of social, economical, technological, cultural, and political changes that promote interdependence and growth. Globalization raises the standard of living in developing countries, spreads technological knowledge, and increases political liberation. (Harris 5-23) The main cause of globalization is influence from other, more developed, countries. Globalization is a historical process that results from human innovation and technological progress. The social effects of globalization are clearly illustrated in Peru. Once a third-world country filled with poverty and oppression, Peru is now transitioning into a developed nation. In Peru, globalization has raised the human development index, empowered women, and created a stronger country. (Leon 90-91)
Looking at the article “Environmental Justice” the author says, “Hazardous wastes landfills were disproportionally located in minority and low-income.” This shows that when factory workers don’t have places to put the waste they use the poor communities with less money at their waste site because other are out of portion. Another example is shown in the article “Climate change” he states, “The oppression, the bigotry, and fuckery of that argument is that it allows rich countries to continue perpetuating unrealistic demands on the world’s “poorest”- those who “virtually have had nothing to with” climate change.” This indicates that they continue to let the countries that are rich make unrealistic statements on how to help the poor people. The last example is, “These happen to both be things that the wealthy believe they can afford to ignore.” This means that the people who are wealthy think its ok to ignore the fact that pollution will destroy their country soon.
The essay, “The Noble Feat of Nike” by Johan Norberg basically talks about the effects of Nike going into third world countries, particularly Vietnam. Norberg explains how Nike’s factory gains from being in its desired location, Vietnam. Vietnam being a communist country comes to Nike’s advantage, because if they were located elsewhere they would have to pay workers higher wages and use more of their machines. Workers in these countries are provided with an air conditioned building with regular wages, free meal plans, free medical service, and training/education to operate the machinery within the factory. The workers find all of this beneficial and in their own favor because of the fact their earning double to five times the amount in wages than if they were working outdoors on a farm. This great deal, blinds them to notice the meaning behind the company’s location in Vietnam. The Nike factory was rather clever in making their location in that specific area to gain benefits for Western owners. The catch Nike gains from is simple. The owners pay factory workers only a small monthly sum from what they make selling the shoes to customers. Globalists state that the company doesn’t pull this fast one on the Western population because of our advancements compared to the Eastern countries. Western people would protest and strike to demand better wages for their work, but the people in Eastern countries have no choice but to deal with the injustice in order to support their families and educate their children.
I stand with the sustainability of globalization economacaly the place witch is dealing with oil, pollution and clean energy.
An example would be the incident that happened in Bangladesh on April 24,2013 where the building collapsed, and left a lot of people injured. The incident could have been prevented if they would have listened to the inspector when he told them that there was a crack in the wall, but they didn’t listen, and when back inside to work. This later caused a riot against the owner of the building. Around the same year several factories where shutdown in Bangladesh, for safety reasons, and in another part of the capital a fire broke out which killed eight people in a fire including its owner. Even though Bangladesh is one of the largest garment country in the retail business it is also one of the poorest there is. Even though most sweatshops are on the eastern side of the world most of them make the clothing, for the western side of the world, for example like the united states, and also
A controversy exists whether the World Bank should be encouraging migration of dirty industries to less-developed countries. Larry Summer challenges that the World Bank should persuade such a migration. Others contend that these less-developed countries, despite their economic plight, should not be coerced into harboring dirty industries, a position I support.
(Bilton et al 1996:5) The process of globalization has certainly had many changing effects to the world we live in; it has also changed the way many factors operate. Globalization is said "to have transformed the structure and scale of human relationships that social, cultural, political, and economic processes now operate at a global scale with a consequent reduction in the significance of other geographical scales. "(The Dictionary of human geography 2004:315) Globalization has had both positive and negative effects on a local, national, international and global level. Globalization often brings benefits at one level which cause negative effects at another, these results and the scale at which they manifest are often uncertain and unpredictable.
Globalization refers to the absence of barriers that every country had. Yes, it has helped to demolish the walls that separated us .Globalization, which is the process of growing interdependence among every country in this planet, can be seen as a sign of hopeful and better future by some, but for others it represents a huge disaster for the whole world. That’s why we are going to see the negative effect that globalization has on culture then focus on the ethical disadvantage it brought, to finally talk about the damage it did to skilled workers.
Just imagine waking up in squalor, a once prominent society, now a desolate wasteland. All because foreign interest has raped your land of its natural resources and you seen not a cent in profit. Although, globalization is unifying the worlds developed nations and is bringing commerce to nations that have struggle in past years. True, globalization has many positive effects but do the pros outweigh the cons. In this essay I will discuss Globalization ruining the integrity of many countries and also is forcing many undeveloped nations into a bind, and is causing economic distress on some developed nations. Also, due to economic globalization the nations of the world are diluting their culture, sovereignty, natural resources, safety and political system. My goal is not to change your way of thought, but only to enlighten you of the negatives of global economic expansion.
Globalization, love it or hate it, but you can’t escape it. Globalization may be regarded as beneficial from an economic and business point of view, but however cannot be perceived the ditto when examined from the social sciences and humanities side of it. Globalization can be argued as a tool for economic growth, advancement and prosperity through co-operation between the developed and developing countries. The pro-globalization critics argue that the benefits that globalization brings to developing nations surpasses or outcasts the negative impacts caused by globalization and may even go a step further to state that it is the only source of hope for developing nations to prosper and stand out. However, the real question to be asked is as to what extent are the positives argued upon without taking into account the negative aspects of globalization towards developing countries. Moreover, how many developing countries out of many are exactly benefiting or even prospering from globalization is another question to consider. Therefore, my paper will dispute that indeed growth and advancement provided by globalization to developing countries is beneficial in short-term, but in the long-run, it will only bring upon negative impacts and challenges due to the obstacles involved such as exploitation of labour and resources, higher increase in poverty, and effects of multi-national corporations on local businesses and the economy, and to an extent the effects on the developing country itself.
Globalization is a term that is difficult to define, as it covers many broad topics in the global arena. However, it can typically be attributed to the advancement of economic, social, and cultural interactions among the companies, citizens, organizations, and governments of nations; globalization also focuses on the interactions and integration of countries (The Levin Institute 2012). Many in the Western world promote globalization as a positive concept that allows growth and participation in a global community. Conversely, the negative aspects rarely receive the same level of attention. Globalization appears to be advantageous for the privileged few, but the benefits are unevenly distributed. For example, the three richest people in the world possess assets that exceed the Gross National Product of all of the least developed countries and their 600 million citizens combined (Shawki and D’Amato 2000). Although globalization can provide positive results to some, it can also be a high price to pay for others. Furthermore, for all of those who profit or advance from the actions related to globalization, there are countless others who endure severe adverse effects.
Globalization has been a start of a new modernized era in history. The source states that as an individual you are given prosperity, stability, and also predictability, and also points out that it helps developing countries modernize and catch up with developed countries, and also reduce poverty since new businesses are formed allowing more employment in the country due to the subsidies that wealthier countries give to them. The person who wrote this source is a pro globalist, and has probably experienced the prosperity that was given to them because of the global trading system. His perspective on globalization suggests that globalization is the key to advancing technology, good relations between countries, and is beneficial event in history. One should embrace the global economy as it creates many roads to achieve your goals in your life, and also for the weaker countries that needs support, but to a degree that the government can intervene with the market.
