The good times of today, are the sad thoughts of tomorrow. As generations pass there comes times when life needs hope to bring the family back up to living life and moving on and on . In the book “Krik? Krak!”, Edwidge Danticat conveys that people need to sacrifice in order to provide hope to the next generation. Life can change when it comes to living life only to sacrifice for the greater good of your family.
One of the sacrifices Danticat fixes into the reader’s mind is in the story “A Wall Of Fire Rising” when Guy gets his bosses balloon up and in the air, but results in doing a fall to the ground. Guy’s dream was to achieve in getting the hot air balloon into the blue, alluring sky. After minutes in the air, Guy then tries to exit the balloon commencing his rapid fall towards the ground. “ Within seconds, Guy was in the air hurtling down towards the crowd. In result Caroline disrespects the bone soup by making fun of the magic powers the Haitians believed it gave you. After Ma has prepared the bone soup, Caroline starts to comment: “If she keeps making this soup, Caroline whispered, I will dip my head into the pot and scald myself blind. That will show her there’s no magic in it”(P.141). Bone soup is an important Haitian tradition where you can eat the soup and it can make something come true and give you magical powers. Ma was hoping that Caroline would eat the soup and not end up marrying Eric When Caroline was eating the bone soup, she mocked it to show that she’s tired of it and that she’s American and that there is no such thing as magic.
