Plans school activities and provides guidelines. Planning is a process of setting objectives and determining what should be done to achieve them. Planning helps educational managers to anticipate problems opportunities, to think forward and to contribute efficacy of other managerial functions. Educational Management involves three basics functions, specifically planning, implementing and controlling. School mangers use these functions to achieve educational goals and objectives.

Chapter one of Ten Traits of Highly Effective Principals opens with one of the most influential traits of what an effective principal should possess, the communication trait. To be successful in any venue in life, you must be able to communicate with people; this is especially true in the education world. Principals are responsible for communicating with people in all walks of life, parents, students, teacher, administrative office personnel and the general public, as an administrator, you must make each of these individuals feel a sense of trust and belonging while communicating with them. Principals use conversations and gesture to build confidence and open lines of communication for learning and growth.

To be able to do this the principal needs to make the decisions that supports his/her school. Principals need to be role models and responsible decision makers. Policies and procedures need to be updated regularly and should be reviewed by multiple parties.
Planning is a way to respond to the changes occurring in the environment around a person systematically. Planning is an approach towards the problem solving rationally. It can be taken as a remedial tool for creating change in the current situation in systematic and efficient way.
All effective educators need to find ways to motivate their students. The kids that fill our classrooms have different strengths and weaknesses. It is critical that teachers recognize the strengths and weaknesses of their students so they can use the right classroom management strategies to motivate their kids. In this particular case, the student named Jodie is inattentive and uninterested and neither the teacher intern or classroom teacher have a clue how to handle this situation. Ms. Marcia Thomas, who is the young intern feels that Jodie is just a problem child that lacks motivation and there is nothing she can do for this particular student. Ms. Thomas and the lead teacher Ms. Egan both lack the needed classroom management strategies that are necessary to motivate and engage students in a positive learning environment.
There is an endless list of skills that the managers should have in order to be effective, but the 4 basic skills that discussed by Robbins and Decenzo in their book are conceptual skills, interpersonal skills, technical skills (Katz 1974), and political skills (Pavett, Lau 1983). These skills will be discussed later in this essay together with their importance. Based on the above researches, a conclusion will be remarked in the end of the essay.
In every institution the type of leadership style is important for a successful environment. In order to establish a successful school environment to compete globally, the leader should comprehend the basic leadership theories and styles (Glickman et al., 2010). The cultures at schools are important to the success of the students and overall of the school, but also can be very difficult to establish and maintain without the proper leadership knowledge (Waite, 1995). In United States many schools could be place in the categories of conventional, congenial, or collegial, because the strategies used for their leadership (Glickman et al., 2010).The chosen school could be classified according to different criteria and could be determine in which area their leadership pertains more. In order to analyzed and classify the leadership, it was imperative to observed the way the leader make decisions, the approached with the stakeholders, how the instruction is delivered, and how they realized their job (Marshall, 2005). In this analysis will be identify the category that this school will be, the school climate, the type of supervision and leadership.
Planning can be used to help the organization map out a way to efficiently achieve their goals. The beginning of the planning process should include analyzing of the current situation. From this information the company can determine the goals and start to outline the steps that need to be taken to ensure that the goal will be met. Other planning activities that should be completed are determining the company’s objectives and were they want to be in the future. This will help them to choose their business objectives and strategies. In addition, the company should look at the resources that they have available and determine if they are sufficient to achieve the organizations goals.
There is a direct correlation between leadership and communication. Based on a comprehensive study involving six schools and 208 participants, Halawah (2005) reports a school’s climate is positively associated with the principal’s ability to effectively communicate. These principals are respected for their ability to lead by example, to communicate clearly, to demonstrate caring for all, and to follow through with reprimands and punishments for faculty, staff, and students. In all six schools, the principal’s actions and words were aligned with the schools’ mission and vision in an effort to increase student achievement. Lastly, this reports points out that all principals have open communication with staff and faculty members for the purpose of building relationships to assign leadership opportunities and delegate tasks.
Viitala(2005) concluded another theory about management competencies that contains six categories which are relevant to technical , knowledge , knowledge, leadership and supervisory competencies, social and intrapersonal. Technical competencies allow managers to handle the content of processes that they are responsible for by using tools, procedures and techniques. Business competencies are related to any business, it makes managers to think, to lead in the managing system. Knowledge management competencies include a lot of professional management knowledge such as concept formation and problem solving. Leadership and supervisory competencies are meant to lead people, support people and participate people. Social competencies include the ability of manager to establish the relationship with stakeholders. Intrapersonal competencies trend to provide the ability of self-control for managers.

One of the core element of supervision is having managerial skills. The manager is one who has the obligation to study the time taken to execute the task. Then, the standards are set to accomplish the task for employees. Along these lines, manager measures the productivity of each employee. He is also responsible for arranging and managing the equipment, tools, machinery required for doing the work. This requires the manager to have a good education, experience, technical knowledge and the ability to perform administrative functions. Thus, the main aspect of managerial skills is to match the performance of employees with the limits ascertained (Sargent, 2003).
Managers at all levels of the organizational hierarchy must engage in planning. Planning involves setting goals and defining the actions necessary to achieve those goals. In planning the top-level manager establishes the overall goals and strategies for the organization. While on the other hand the other managers in the hierarchy develop operational plans for their work groups, which has a responsibility to help the organization. All the managers must develop goals that are supportive in the over all strategy of the organization.
Page and Wilson (1994) after reviewing 337 citations regarding competencies, defined it as “the skills, abilities, and personal characteristics required by an „effective‟ or „good‟ manager”. The point to note about this definition is the inclusion of directly observable and testable competencies, such as knowledge and skills, and the less assessable competencies related to personal characteristics or personal competencies.
As mentioned before, leadership styles take an important role in running a school. Unfortunately, many principals have not yet defined their leadership style and struggle to administrate their school. They are responsible not only of teachers and students, but of every employee in the school. They have the power to control all the resources available to improve and meet academic goals. Despite their power, principals need to identify appropriate leadership styles to succeed as
