This poem portrays a man’s love for Annabel Lee, and tells of the loss of her as a result of their great love. “Annabel Lee” by Edgar Allan Poe was published on October 9, 1849. The poem is affected by the speaker, poetic elements, and mood.
The speaker of this poem has a huge impact on the way the story is viewed. It is told by a man whom is thought to be Annabel’s love. The speaker shows he is Annabel’s love by saying, “And this maiden she lived with no other thought than to love and be loved by me.” Since Annabel Lee’s love is the speaker, we get direct feeling and events that happen. Like many poems, poetic elements play a huge role in “Annabel Lee”. A major element in

Edgar Allan Poe's view on poetry is that all poems must be a "rhythmical creation of beauty". In his eyes, melancholy and sadness is beautful. He thinks that the death of a young beautiful woman is itself full of beauty. In both "Annabel Lee" and "The Raven", Poe writes about this so-called beauty.
Annnabel Lee is a poem of two lovers, in their own world, living a perfect life. This poem reflects Poe 's own pain, in which Annabel Lee dies, and her lover is heartbroken.
As stated before, Annabel Lee is in a deep love. The poem states, “And this maiden she lived with no other thought / Than to love and be loved by me” (5-6).
Annabel Lee talks about a man remembering his love (who is named in the poem, Annabel Lee) who died by an unnamed cause. The narrator of the poem speaks of her as if he truly loved her. He even tells of how the angels in the heavens became jealous of him and Annabel Lee’s
The tragic romantic love story is a general reflection and or a comparison to Poe’s wife who died at the age of twenty-four. In stanza 2, line 9, the speaker in the poem praises their love saying “But we loved with a love that was more than love- I and my Annabel Lee; With a love that the winged seraphs of heaven coveted her and me.” In stanza 4, line 21-26, gives the tragic death of annabel lee saying “The angels, not half so happy in heaven, Went envying her and me- Yes!- that was the reason (as all men know, In this kingdom by the sea) That the wind came out of the cloud by night, Chilling and killing my Annabel Lee.” And near the end of the poem, the speaker describes the bond between him and annabel lee will never be severed in stanza 6. This poem is in some a a metaphor comparing the characters in the poem to Poe and Virginia and the special bond he have with
“Annabel Lee” is based on a couple in a kingdom by the sea and the girl, who’s name is Annabel Lee, dies ("Shmoop.com"). So Annabel’s partner is reminiscing about the memories he once shared Annabel. However, the partners’ tone of voice slowly changes throughout the poem from a caring and happy voice to a sad longing voice as if to say Annabel’s name would somehow bring her back ("Shmoop.com"). Throughout the poem, it is evident that the theme of the poem is that the speaker was in love with Annabel Lee. Furthermore, in line 9 it says, “But we loved with a love that was more than love” (Poe) which is basically stating the couple loved each other so much that they felt something that was more than love. The speaker uses symbols to help the reader visualize his point. Symbols such as a chilling wind, a highborn kinsman, and winged seraphs that apparently “took” Annabel Lee from him ("Shmoop.com"). The poem of “Annabel Lee” may be a tragic love story, but in the end it is a very interesting piece of literature written by Edgar Allan
The poem “Annabel Lee” by Edgar Allen Poe is a beautiful story that outlines events that happened between the speaker and his love. The story paints a mental picture of a love that is so strong that angels become jealous and take Annabel Lee away from the speaker, but even though she is gone, his love for her never ended. The story is full of imagery that leads to the central message of the story, which is love.
Edgar Allan Poe’s 1849 poem, “Annabel Lee”, explores the common themes of romance and death found in many of Poe’s works. The poem tells the story of a beautiful young maiden named Annabel Lee who resides by the sea. The maiden and the narrator of the poem are deeply in love, however the maiden falls ill and dies, leaving the narrator without his beloved Annabel Lee. Contrary to what many might expect from a poem by Poe and yet still depressing, the poem ends with the narrator accepting Annabel’s death and remains confident that they will forever be together despite her parting.
...sed society with religious overtones throughout the poem, as though religion and God are placing pressure on her. The is a very deep poem that can be taken in may ways depending on the readers stature yet one thing is certain; this poem speaks on Woman’s Identity.
Most people agree that Edgar Allan Poe wrote "Annabel Lee" about his departed wife, Virginia Clemm, who died of tuberculosis two years earlier. Some critics, however, contend that in the seventh line of the poem he states, "I was a child and she was a child," and he certainly was no child in 1836 at twenty-seven when he married his thirteen-year-old bride. Maybe the poem is about an earlier love, or perhaps it is purely fictional, but addressing Annabel Lee as his "life and [his] bride" in line thirty-eight and writing it two years after his beloved young wife's death, it is seems logical that it is indeed written about her and is simply embellished with a bit of poetic license.

Edgar Allan Poe was an American short-story writer, poet critic and editor. Edgar only lived for forty years but during his brief lifetime, he made a permanent place for himself in American Literature and also in world literature. Edgar was born in 1809 in Boston, Massachusetts to two “poor” parents, he was then orphaned at the age of two, and then adopted by a man named John Allan who he grew to never like. He was broke for much of his life and often begged for money that he then spent on his alcohol and gambling problem. He died impoverished at the age of 40 after being found scruffy and unconscious in Baltimore.
