In today’s day in age people live for a thriller seeking book, movie, or television show. These platforms keep people on edge and also keep people thinking. What most don’t know is that these scary movies or thrillers take away key components from Gothic style literature and Poe’s examples. These two bought fright and adrenaline way before movies like Paranormal Activity, Saw, and Slither. The movie Jigsaw a movie set to come out in 2017 uses the Gothic style elements perfectly. This one of many ways Edgar Allen Poe has to influence modern day entertainment. Though this was to help him coop with his situation it opened the door to something new. In many of his stories, there is a death or a dark moment of explanation. This type of writing is very captivating to many grabbing their attention in the matter of moment. Modern entertainment noticed this and started creating different forms of entertainment resulting in a huge amount of profit. This is because of horrid events and dark thing peak people’s interest. Although Poe and gothic style literature both go hand and hand they also influenced detective type situations. These situations like fear and thrill keep the audience on edge. It keeps the audience active and guessing when they are wrong with an inkling. This type of entertainment involves every aspect of the gothic style of literature which means involves Poe. Poe is also hinted at in many tv shows and movies bringing some aspect of horror. A Disney comic based around Donald Duck; a raven repeatedly says nevermore referring to “The Raven”. The television Simpson’s even used his work making a spin-off of “The Raven”. These shows and comics used it was a way to include spookiness.
