Geography of Ecuador
Ecuador is a western South American country. It is the 4th smallest country in South America (List of Sovereign). The country borders Columbia to the north, Peru to the south and east, and the Pacific Ocean to the west (Geography). For Ecuador’s area, about the size of Nevada (Geography and map), it has a lot of geographical features such as: Galapagos Islands, Andes, Cotopaxi, Amazon rainforest, Chimborazo, Guayas River, Pichincha Volcano, Tungurahua, Sangay, and Quilotoa (Geographical). With all of these interesting features Ecuador has a high rate of tourism. About 1,114,000 people were recorded in 2011.
The Andes, the longest mountain range in the world, runs straight through Ecuador. In the range there are a lot of mountains, like the Cotopaxi 19,347 ft (5,897 m). This mountain is the largest volcano in the world. It last erupted in 1940 (Cotopaxi). Some other mountain ranges include: Chimborazo 20,564 ft (6,268 m), Pichincha Volcano 15,696 ft (4,784 m), Tungurahua 16,480 ft (5,023 m), Sangay 17,388 ft (5,300 m), and Quilotoa 12,841 ft (3,914 m) (List of Mountains). The Cotopaxi and Quilotoa are huge tourist attractions in Ecuador. Cotopaxi is the 2nd tallest in Ecuador. Quilotoa is an ancient

volcano that has turned into a lake. It is located high up in the Andes (10). The tropical rainforest in Ecuador covers nearly 40% of the country. “The rainforest is home to a wide range of species, many of whom are yet to be discovered and named. Toucans, parrots, caimans, freshwater dolphins and a hundred species of butterflies and insects exist within an incredible biodiversity of plants.” Some organisms have yet to be discovered because of the dense forest, and some species get mixed up with others. For example, two species could look similar but the two creatures end up being completely different when the scientist take a closer look. In the rainforest there is also a complex system of waterways starting from the Andean peaks. Many rivers are navigable and are the perfect thing for tourist. The tourist system was made to be sensitive to the environment. Also, out of respect of the indigenous inhabitants like Cofanes, Huaorani, Quichua, and Shuar (Amazon). The Galapagos Islands are located about 1000 km from the Ecuadorian coastline.
This archipelago, a group of islands, is home of some of the most diverse organisms in the world. This is caused from the island's extreme isolation. The island has a wide variety of organisms that differ from anywhere else in the world, this inspired Charles Darwin's theory of evolution in 1835. This is the main reason the islands are so popular. Having approximately 170,000 tourist a year. Only around 30,000 people live on the 19 main islands. “The islands are surrounded by the Galapagos Marine Reserve, which was created in 1986 (70,000 km2) and extended to its current area (133,000 km2) in 1998, making it one of the largest marine reserves in the world.”
(Galapagos) Ecuador has an area of 283,560 km2 (this includes the Galapagos Islands). Making the country slightly smaller than the state of Nevada. The country's total land boundaries are 2,010 km. Colombia making up 590 km, and Peru 1,420 km. The Pacific Ocean coastline is 2,237 km. Of this land only 5.85 % is arable, and 4.93 % is set for permanent crops. Irrigated land includes 8,650 km2. Ecuador is perfect for all types of crops such as: bananas, coffee, cocoa, rice, potatoes, manioc, plantains, and sugarcane; because the country is located on the equator, making the temperature or climate roughly the same year round. The climate is tropical along the coast, and it becomes cooler once you move further inland at the higher elevations. It also has a tropical climate in the Amazonian jungle lowlands (Geography). The country of Ecuador is divided up into 22 provinces of 199 cantons. The cantons are divided into parishes. Every province has an administration capital. In the Pichincha province is Quito, the capital of Ecuador. At an elevation of 9,300 ft (2,835 m) Quito is the 2nd highest capital city in the world. The capital is also home of many tourist attractions such as: the church of St. Francis, the church of El Sagrario, the Sucre Theater, the Metropolitan Cultural Center and other sights. Another major city is Guayaquil. This city is known for having the largest population in Ecuador, and is located in the province of Guayas. Some popular tourist attractions include: Guayaquil Historical Park, El Malecón 2000, Mercado Artesanal, El Palacio Municipal and Parque Seminario. Also there are some interesting churches and historical buildings (Travel).

First of all, one of South America’s greatest geological features is the Andes Mountains. The Andes are a major mountain range in Venezuela. The Andes mountain range is the longest mountain range in the world. To be specific, the mountain range is 4,500 miles long and 500 miles wide (Andes). The Andes stretch along the west coast of South America passing through several countries including Venezuela, Columbia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Chile and Argentina.
Did you know that Peru is one of the top ten countries to visit in the world? (UNWTO) Peru has unique music and energetic dances that are fun to see. The people are friendly and charming; they would be happy to help one find their way if they need help. But, the main reason Peru appears on the top ten list is because of its unique geographical features. Some examples are the Andes Mountains, Machu Picchu and Cusco. The art and culture of the Peruvians, as well as the people themselves, and the popular places to go, are what tourists like to see in Peru.
This book claims to be about evolution, centered in the location made famous by Charles Darwin, the Galapagos Islands. I read this book on the recommendation of a good friend who knows I am interested in birds and thought I might get something out of it. Indeed, the few parts of the book actually about the Gouldian Finches of the Galapagos Islands are fascinating. The book records in detail some of the trials the Dr. Peter Grant family endured in studying these birds on a hot volcanic rock. However, the writers and editors of the book avoid simple logic and put a spin on history that is misleading. The facts and logic presented in The Beak of the Finch really make the book's author out to be a closet creationist.

...ke a paradise. There are things there that no other country has. For example, the Carnaval de Oruro shows the uniqueness of Bolivia through traditional dancing and costumes. Bolivia is like a South American paradise.
The country’s climate is tropical along the coast with some low temperatures in high elevations and tropical Amazonian jungle lowlands. The natural resources of the Ecuador are petroleum, fish, timber and hydropower. This country has a population of 15,492,000 inhabitants. The country’s official language is Spanish but they have some Amerindian languages such as Quechua spoken by some Indian tribes (Geography, 2005). Government The Republic of Ecuador has a republic government.
While researching the beautiful country of Costa Rica, I found many sources. These sources discussed every aspect of Costa Rica. For example, they explained the country’s historical background, common foods, clothing styles, geography, and government. This being said, I have organized this paper into five sections: overview, historical background, cultural aspects, geography and climate, and government. My goal in this paper is to show the many aspects of Costa Rica.
This fire volcano which is its nickname, is one of the most dangerous volcanoes in Central America. It has erupted more than thirty times since 1585. The volcanic style is explosive with many lava domes. This stratovolcano has two younger volcanoes that are growing fast. The last earthquake recorded nearby was August thirty-first two thousand and fifteen. Colima has been an active volcano since 1994. Finally the last active volcano, Popocatepetl or El Popo as some call it was dormant for fifty years until in 1994 it exploded. Since then it has been erupting and making huge explosions. This volcano's name Popocatepetl is the Aztec word for smoking mountain. It stands five thousand two hundred and forty-six meters tall. It is seventy meters southeast of Mexico city. This volcano is the second highest volcano in North America. Popocatepetl is a stratovolcano. The last time it erupted was May 8, 2013. The last earthquake recorded near Popocatepetl was on September sixteenth two thousand and fifteen. A smaller volcano that's located in northwestern Mexico is called Cerro Prieto. This volcano is a lava dome and is only one hundred and seventy-five kilometers southeast of San Diego,
The Galapagos Islands are located in the Pacific Ocean with a chain that stretches as far as 220 kilometers from the most northern to the most southern island. This archipelago of volcanic islands is positioned in a way where some islands are found north of the Equator and others are found south of the Equator. There is even one island, Volcan Wolf, which is positioned directly on the equatorial line. The Galapagos has absolutely no indigenous population, and those 25,000 citizens that do live there now speak primarily Spanish. There are a total of 18 main islands, 3 small islands, and 107 islets (very small islands).
Ecuador is located in South America, on the Equator it also extends out to sea to the Galapagos Islands. The people of Ecuador speak Spanish, Quechua, and now English is starting to be part of the curriculum for students. Ecuador is the home to all my family, and possible the retirement place for my parents. This is all possible since Ecuador branched out of the Gran Colombia. Going even further into the past Ecuador did not just have one start on being what/where they are now. The history of Ecuador is said be divided into five different phases or eras: Pre-Colombian, The Conquest, The Colonial Period, The War of Independence and the Republican Era. These eras needed to happen so the place I call home could be what it is now. It also has gone through changed within the flag, which is used as a representation – or a symbol to show off were one is from. The people of the city also are the heart of it all, and with time they learn to adapt to new life and customs without losing the traditional ones. Ecuador has gone through many changes to get where it is now. The struggle has been hard for most but at the end the nations is a strong nation.
Imagine strolling along white sand beaches that hug azure shorelines as the morning light drapes itself across lush palm-covered mountains. Imagine spending the afternoon meandering the winding cobblestone streets of Old Vallarta, popping in and out of charming cafes and boutique stores. Evenings can be spent dining in one of scores of stellar restaurants, grabbing a nightcap at a local seaside bar, then walking home under a canopy of dazzling stars.
Now, Darwin was not the first to land on this group of islands, but rather was the first to document an extensive analysis on everything from animals, plants, habitat, and climate. The majesty held by the landscape described by Darwin is unparalleled by no other known to human kind, even today.“Imps of Darkness” that emerge from the depths of the sea, giant tortoises whose size are incomparable to any European tortoise and specimen of finches indigenous to its own respective island are examples of Charles Darwin’s analysis upon his first encounter with the archipelago, Galápagos. Countless years have passed since those fateful days Darwin resided in the Galápagos, but was Darwin accurate in his depiction? How much has changed since then? What new discoveries have been made upon Darwin's analytical visit?
Created by collapsed volcanoes hundreds of years ago and white topped with glaciers that are millions of years old, the Ecuadorian mountain is a known landmark. With the name of The Ice Throne of God, thousands of expert climbers come from the farthest corners of the Earth to attempt to scale this giant, but few succeed. Home to hundreds of graves, and with its towering heights, it earns the title of tallest mountain in Ecuador.
The Galápagos Islands are scattered across the equator. Politically that are Ecuadorian territory. The tourist attraction itself consists of nineteen of islands in northwestern South America. The formations of the islands are perhaps, the most interesting element of its geography. All of the major islands, with the exception of the largest one, Isabella, were formed from the top of the ocean floor. They were formed from the remains of volcanoes. Isabella was formed from six volcanoes that came together at sea level. Since the majority of the islands contain volcanoes on them, there is some fear of them erupting. (Destination)
