The classes EDFN 211 and EDFN 241 correspond with each other but also are diverse. In class EDFN 211, we have multiple discussions about race, diversity, and gender issues. In the beginning of the year we learned about the history of education and how to appreciate different cultures in a class room. We reviewed historical documents important to education and those who positively influenced schooling. Our class spoke about the Pima/Apache Indians, Benjamin Harris, Gerard Terborch, Theodore de Bry and Thomas Jefferson.

A child’s development and learning commences from the earliest days of their lives. The unique identity of each individual stems from the relationships with people who provide love, care and emotional support. It has become common today to dismiss the importance of children’s development and behavior as they grow. Each and every child is naturally unlike. They are particularly special in their own way with a different combination of characteristics that forms their individual personas. Most elementary schools are not prepared to implement cultural awareness in their classroom curriculums. A diverse staff that is also extremely culturally content is a necessity.
