The dusky gopher frog (Lithobates sevosus) is a stocky amphibian with dorsolateral ridges, is usually dark in color and may have dorsal spots. It is generally 6-9 cm from snout to vent. The classification of the dusky gopher frog is as follows: Kingdom: Animalia, Phylum: Chordata, Class: Amphibia, Order: Anura, Family: Ranidae, Genus: Lithobates, Species: L. sevosus. A few of the dusky gopher frogs relatives include the rio chipillico frog which can be found in Ecuador and Peru. This frogs natural habitats are being threatened by agricultural expansion. The Amazon River frog, found all over South America and is not considered endangered. I was amazed at the work they are doing to save this species. I was also surprised at how difficult it was to find information on one of the most endangered frogs in the United States. This has definitely changed my view on local endangered species. People do not realize how important these smaller species are since there is no news coverage on them. They are endangered because of the damage we have caused to their habitat so it should be our responsibility to save them. There is definitely more attention on some endangered species than others (pandas). Most people do not realize how long the list of endangered species actually is, they only know about the ones the media talks about.
