When things are done in a way that have a negative effect on them or those around them, I feel the need to change these things. According to Ferri, drugs have affected many people and many societies at different magnitude (Ferri FF, 2010). Drugs have a negative effect on the health the person involved. In some cases, the effects are adverse and lead to loss of life. Some individuals have misled their families as a result of drug consumption. They have affected their family 's income negatively leading to poverty. As a result, it is advisable to take drug matter serious and put efforts into changing the current situation and aim at achieving a drug free nation. The young people should be educated on dangers of drug abuse so that through them, a generation free from drugs may be achieved. …show more content…
The first reason is the fact that most of the drugs abused in the society are readily available. People find no difficulty in gaining access to these drugs. Most of the society’s moral are degrading. People have become selfish and what the majority of them cares about is self-gain. People see the drug issue as a business and fail to acknowledge the harm it does to the society. So, drug business has gained success as people lose themselves to drugs. Another reason is the fact that most of the drugs are sold at an affordable price. When people are able to acquire drugs at the price they are able to purchase, they increase their consumption rate. The people dealing with drugs look for cheaper raw materials to use in the production of these drugs. As a consequence, they are able to sell these drugs to the consumers at low prices encouraging their consumption. Huge profits are realized in the process and this encourages the business activity involving these
In this book his focus is on removing the stigmatization attached with drugs, addiction and the addicts. He clearly outlines the problems and the main factors of the society which leads to addiction amongst people. Throughout this book he provides various
One reason is that half of the drugs around the world come to the U.S which makes it a favorable place for the drug Cartels. Also, the speaker Rodrigo Canales explains that the U.S is a good place for drugs is because there are 55 million people who are taking drugs and they always want the drugs. Another reason why the U.S is a good marketplace for drugs, explained in the Ted Talk is because you can get drugs anywhere at any time in the U.S. and also the drug dealers guaranteed drugs within a half hour for yourself, which is really surprising. To conclude, in the Ted Talk called The Deadly Genius of Drug Cartels, with the speaker Rodrigo Canales, who talks about the violence of the drug cartels, the financial businesses of the drug cartels, and how they're successful with the U.S is involved with the
The reason for the increased use of heroin are unclear currently but death rate and emergency room visits for heroin have grown to staggering rates there were 201,000 emergency room visits alone in 2008 and this is only for the lucky few that had friends kind enough to take them to seek help. There are thousands more that worst so lucky and remain unreported. Heroin has become such growing issue that Chattanooga Count has put out a put awareness campaign waring that there has been more death from heroin over dosing then vehicular manslaughter and homicide combine.
One of the most obvious reasons why drugs are still around is because it is such a profitable business. In our society, marijuana, cocaine, xanax, and ecstasy are convenient and readily available to purchase almost anywhere you go. Those who sell drugs can make anywhere from five hundred to three thousand dollars a day. This income is tax-free and requires little to no labor efforts whatsoever. Those involved in this lucrative trade are taking somewhat of a risk, but because dealing drugs is so common in our society the chances of getting caught aren’t as high as expected. Drug trafficking alone serves for about 40 percent of all organized crime activity with this number increasing everyday as drugs become more and more popular. With the economy being so bad most find it easy to turn to selling drugs as an acceptable mean of income.
Drugs and alcohol have been used for medical and recreational purposes throughout history. With advancement of technology it has become easier and easier to access these substances. It is not only illegal drugs but prescription drugs that are being misused and wreaking havoc across the world. Even with billions of dollars being paid out to stop the war on drugs, the problem persists. People from all walks of life have been affected by drugs or are becoming drug addicts themselves. One particular group afflicted by the misuse of these substances is the children of drug addicted parents. According to Cattapan and Grimwade, “Drug use seen in one generation affects the lives of the next”. Children with one or both parents on drugs face huge disadvantages. They suffer from physical abuse, and emotional trauma with lifelong effects and their family unit is torn apart. Social institutions are being overloaded with the need to help or relocate these children.
In a culture with such diverse commonalities, the differentials that set precedent come from social norms. These norms set the template for what acceptable behavior is. Being known as having a melting pot of a population we can expect that the norms are influenced through religion, values, ideas, and self views. Deviant behaviors occur when these social norms are disrupted and acts are seen to go against what we have always thought as wrong or weird. Deviance is a broad term that encompasses the idea that we know what is right from what our neighbor does. For example, trends of fashion change quite rapidly. If you don’t believe me watch shows on television that reminisce about the 70’s 80’s and so on. Today we look at what was worn in the previous decades and find it hard to imagine people dressing like this now. However, in the days that style was popular it was seen as the way to dress. Norms change to fit what the popular trend is now. Deviance likewise counters with what is unpopular. There are far more serious deviant acts than dressing from the wrong decade; they are also heavily tied to the law. Laws are more inflexible than behaviors of changing times. They are intact from the idea that if caught participating in such acts you could face serious punishment and rightfully so. Let’s take a look at one form of deviance that persisted in our culture for many years.
Drugs cause an overall disturbance in a subjects’ physiological, psychological and emotional health. “At the individual level, drug abuse creates health hazards for the user, affecting the educational and general development of youths in particular” (“Fresh Challenge”). In youth specifically, drug abuse can be triggered by factors such as: a parent’s abusive behavior, poor social skills, family history of alcoholism or substance abuse, the divorce of parents or guardians, poverty, the death of a loved one, or even because they are being bullied at school (“Drugs, brains, and behavior”) .
Through globalization, drugs are legalized and popularized among people in Portugal, Switzerland, Czech Republic, The Netherlands, and Uruguay which are countries having relaxed drug policies or decriminalize all drugs. However, drug use is still illegal in most countries, because of its destructive impacts on the human body. Since illegal drugs are expensive, people consider drug users to be wealthy in order to afford addictive drugs. Nevertheless, the young generation is addicted to drugs in the countries of poverty, because young people are the goal focused by drug trafficking, they are able to access both legal and illegal drugs, and youth uses drugs under the stress.

Drug dealers have a part in this illegal drug trade problem as they support it and are the reason it continues to flourish. They buy, and then sell, creating an income for themselves, but more importantly, a lifestyle. Drug dealers ultimately feel that this issue is not really a problem; however, they feel that laws being placed on drugs are the sole problem. The general consensus of drug dealers is that if there were no laws restricting them, it would not be illegal, and due to this, they often sell drugs in an attempt to crusade and defy authority. They may not know, however, that this problem affects them deeply, as they may be getting themselves involved with criminal organisations and other dangerous figures while buying and selling.
Drug use and abuse is as old as mankind itself. Human beings have always had a desire to eat or drink substances that make them feel relaxed, stimulated, or euphoric. Humans have used drugs of one sort or another for thousands of years. Wine was used at least from the time of the early Egyptians; narcotics from 4000 B.C.; and medicinal use of marijuana has been dated to 2737 BC in China.
Perhaps most substance abuse starts in the teen years when young people are susceptible to pressure from their peers. One of the main concerns when dealing with substance abuse is the long term problems with substance such as addiction, dependency and tolerance. The physical state of an individual, who is addicted to a substance, will deteriorate over a long period of time. This is due to the chemicals that are being put into an individual body. One of the most important aspects of the effect of substance abuse on society includes ill health, disease, sickness, and in many cases death. The impact of substance abuse not only affects individuals who abuse substances but it affects our economy. Our government resources are negatively impacted by individual who abuse substances. According to (Lagliaro 2004) the implication of drug users extend far beyond the user, often damaging their relationships with their family, community, and health workers, volunteer and wider
The use of drugs is a controversial topic in society today. In general, addicts show a direct link between taking drugs and suffering from their effects. People abuse drugs for a wide variety of reasons. In most cases, the use of drugs will serve a type of purpose or will give some kind of reward. These reasons for use will differ with different kinds of drugs. Various reasons for using the substance can be pain relief, depression, anxiety and weariness, acceptance into a peer group, religion, and much more. Although reasons for using may vary for each individual, it is known by all that consequences of the abuse do exist. It is only further down the line when the effects of using can be seen.
Drug addiction is a very big problem in today’s society. Many people have had their lives ruined due to drug addiction. The people that use the drugs don’t even realize that they have an addiction. They continue to use the drug not even realizing that their whole world is crashing down around them. Drug addicts normally lose their family and friends due to drug addiction.
Drug abuse has been a hot topic for our society due to how stimulants interfere with health, prosperity, and the lives of others in all nations. All drugs have the potential to be misapplied, whether obtained by prescription, over the counter, or illegally. Drug abuse is a despicable disease that affects many helpless people. Majority of those who are beset with this disease go untreated due to health insurance companies who neglect and discriminate this issue. As an outcome of missed opportunities of treatments, abusers become homeless, very ill, or even worst, death.
