Fake Love Some people pretend to be friends when other people achieve success, but when the success starts to fade, these friends go away as well. Drake is a Canadian rapper that has achieved immense worldwide success especially since 2016. Most of his music is composed of getting cheated in a relationship or in a friendship. In the song, Fake Love by Drake, his friends use him for his success by staying connected him when he is successful but leaving when he loses fame. Drake’s friends attempt to take benefit of his fortune, but at first, he suspects nothing. “I reach back like one, three. That’s when they smile in my face”(Drake). When Drake reaches a high point in his life, his friends return to his life and act like there was no reason that they were not in his life before his success. When Drake is at a high point, they can use him for free stuff. Drake’s friends are never happy for him for his success. “Yeah, I know they wanna take my place” (Drake). Drake’s friends are always jealous of him and can never be truly happy for him like real friends would, so he does not trust them. He is aware that his friends are selfish and just want to use him to achieve their own selfish desires. Drake’s friends only use him and he is aware that they do. …show more content…
“Somethin’ ain’t right when we talkin’”(Drake). Drake begins to take note that his friends are uncomfortable talking to him. His friends never took the time to actually connect with him, so when it comes talking to each other, they falter because they do not know Drake or his interests. “Really you never was solid”(Drake). He knows the person is unreliable and possibly in a bad situation that might be drawing him/her to want to take advantage of Drake. He/she was never relaxed near Drake, and only came to him when they needed help in certain situations. Drake begins to understand that he needs to withdraw from those that are trying to use
A true friendship is always having each others back through thick and thin, a ride or die. As Claire has been put under a lot of danger the boys were always there to watch over her and protect her like she was a sister. Even when they knew that the secrets could potentially harm them they stayed by her side to ensure her safety to the best of their abilities. For example, Nicholas never left her alone anywhere and always accompanied Claire. When Claire was kidnapped Nicholas was there to try and protect her but was shot. Claire had a choice to make and chose to protect him which saved his life. “I wondered if my friendship and love could ever be an even trade for the pain they had endured” (Maetani 366). Claire is aware of the pain and hardship the boys and her family has faced as she reached further through the past and was distressed for the pain they had faced. True friends will do anything to ensure the safety of each other despite the challenges and adversities encountered.
Symbols in poetry can be a person , place , thing or idea . In the poem titled “ Love Poem to Los Angeles by Luis J. Rodriguez the poet uses the Hollywood Sign as a symbol to represent famous people . In another poem titled “Santa Ana of Grocery Carts “ by Aracelis Gimary the poet uses schoolyard boys as a symbol to represent young men who have died . The meaning of these symbols is similar because they both can represent people and how they’re special . However, the difference of these symbol is that the hollywood sign represents something only positive in the poem and on the other hand the schoolyard boys represent only something negative because it is related to death .
For example, Westerberg “didn’t concern himself with McCandless’s family problems”. (Krakauer 63) A good friend would want to know about his family problems so they could help their friend and give them advice. If Chris’s friends were good friends they would have tried to stop Chris from going to Alaska or at least give him advise and supplies for the trip so he could be better prepared. Borah and Wolf are examples of bad friends because they didn't try to stop or help Chris before he went into the wild unprepared and naive. Evidence of this is when Chris started crying when he was hugging Borah and it frightened her because ‘“he wasn't planning on being gone all that long”’. She said, ‘“I figured he wouldn't have been crying unless he intended to take some big risks and knew he might not be coming back. That’s when I started having a bad feeling that we wouldn't ever see Alex again.”’ Borah should have listened to her gut feeling and urged Chris to not go into the wild. Chris’s friend, Wolf, also didn't say something when he should have. For example, Wolf exclaims, “‘When I let him off, he had that big damn machete hanging off his shoulder. I thought, ‘Jeeze, nobody’s going to pick him up when they see that thing. But I didn't say
friends because he thinks his friends are loyal to him when really they are plotting against him.
Drake was a "sea dog" during the reign of Queen Elizabeth the first. And as everyone knows this is a good time to be a sea dog because the queen highly supported them. She gave him money and ships to raid the Spanish shipping. Drake was the most feared sea dog in his time.
“Chin up kid, they’d kill to see you fall.” A quote from Drake himself, who still today continues to amaze his fans, but an entire generation of teenage culture. In fact Aubrey Graham’s achievements range from his acting, singing, and songwriting talents.
At first glance, one may think that “Tattoo” by Nick Flynn is about actual tattoos, however, Flynn uses tattoos as a metaphor to compare them to all the people we have loved. Flynn argues that throughout our entire lives we are affected by love, both in positive and negative ways. Each time you remind yourself of a certain love, you “inhale him back into you” (line 17), thus making a tattoo as a permanent reminder. In the poem, Flynn makes the comparison of the people you have loved to tiny skull tattoos in order to emphasize the everlasting effect your past loves have on you and who you’ve become. Within the first half of the poem, Flynn writes
In “Useless Boys” the writer, Barry Dempster, creates a strong feeling of disappointment and shame in himself and society as he looks back on his youth to when him and a friend made a promise to each other to “not be like their fathers”. Dempster expresses a sort of disgust for the capitalist society his world seems to be built around, a life where even if you’re doing something you initially enjoyed you end up feeling trapped in it. The poem is a reflective piece, where he thinks back on how he truly believed he would end up happy if he chose a different path than that of his parents. The author uses simple diction and syntax, but it’s evident that each idea has a much deeper meaning, which assisted in setting a reflective/introspective mood.

When Philip Levine wrote the poem "You Can Have It "he allowed his tone of hurt, anger, despair, and frustration to immerse into the readers heart, and through specific words and phrases such as "Thirty years will pass," "dies," "sleeps,' and "am I gonna make it" the reader is given the ability to sympathetically wrestle the duende in Levine's shadow. To begin Levine is already at home and he can hear his brother trudge up the staircase to the door. Instantly, he saw his brother drag his prostrated body through the house and with an extreme effort he sprawled his limp body across the bed- "You can have it" are the words that escaped his fatigued spirit and in turn were left echoing in Levine's mind. Next, with a hasty glance in his brother's direction the illumination from the evenings glimmering twilight forces Levine to see his brother's colorless physique from the drudgery of the daily labor, and the
Patricia Young’s poem Boys is a representation of implied heteronormacy in society. Young uses tropes and schemes such as allusion, metaphors and irony to convey the ways in which heterosexuality is pushed onto children from a young age. Poetry such as Boys is a common and effective medium to draw attention to the way society produces heteronormativity through gendered discourses that are typically used to understand sex. Boys does an excellent job at drawing its readers to the conclusion that it is an ironic poem trying to emphasize the over-excessive ways in which we express heterosexuality in daily life.
Throughout Drake’s musical career, the theme he raps about the most is the male/female relationship. As I referenced it before the relationship between men and women is one of the pillars of rap. His most commercially successful and loved songs are about the relationships he’s had with a woman. Instead of talking about selling drugs or violent lyrics, Drake raps about his love of women and the relationships he has with him. He talks about the mistakes he’s made in the relationship one song in particular “Sooner than Later” he talks about how he has this girl he loves but let’s her get away from him and doesn’t realize it until she’s gone when he raps, “I forgot to call on your birthday/ You swear you’re the last thing on my mind, yeah/ There
Both, the poem “Reluctance” by Robert Frost and “Time Does Not Bring Relief” by Edna St. Vincent Millay, revolved around the theme of lost love. Each poet used a similar array of poetic devices to express this theme. Visual imagery was one of the illustrative poetic devices used in the compositions. Another poetic device incorporated by both poets in order to convey the mood of the poems was personification. And by the same token, metaphors were also used to help express the gist of both poems. Ergo, similar poetic devices were used in both poems to communicate the theme of grieving the loss of a loved one.
E.E Cummings’ poem “ i carry your heart with me(i carry it in)” show’s exactly what people truly feel, it’s as if he yanked someones feelings straight from their heart and put them on paper. This poem is the best explanation of true love, that there is. He says, that this woman is his love, he will love her forever, and no matter how far she may be from him, she will still be in his heart. Nothing could ever make his feelings for her fade away. When someone really truly loves someone, nothing could make them stop loving that person. They will always have a special place in each others hearts. Cummings starts out saying in the first stanza that she is in his heart, then in the second stanza it grows into her being his world, nothing means more to him. Now, in the third stanza he tells her that she is his biggest secret, a mystery to everyone else. Lastly, the most meaningful part of the poem, in my opinion is the last stanza, where he simply states. “I carry your heart(I carry it in my heart)”(line 14). It seems so simple, but after going deep in explanation about his love, that small statement has a much bigger meaning than it did in the first stanza. In this beautiful poem, "i carry your heart with me(i carry it in", E.E Cummings shows how permanent his undying love is for this woman, and how no one and nothing in the world will ever mean more to him, He uses themes of love, and possibly longing for this woman in this poem, to possibly teach the reader how to love, or to stay loyal no matter how tough of a fight that may be.
Make-Up The concept of love is not easily understood by many yet daily it’s used so commonly, it's starting to lose its meaning, rather than a declaration of emotions and companions, we have started to use it as a greeting. In the poem I Love You by Billy Collins, the speaker talks about how “I love you” is a term that is overused by many people. The speaker shares with us his point of view to show how he views the use of the term.
