Dr. Shirzad was born in the year 1364 on the Afghan calendar (1985). He has lived for the last twelve years in District 11, Kabul, project 315, house 19. The decedent’s three other sons (Hanifullah, Habibullah and Mirwais), daughter (Bashta), wife (Skokraia) and mother (Safia), also live in the house. Bashta is a student and is not married. Hanifullah is single and is a law student; Habibullah is single and is in medical school; and Mirwais in single and is studying to go to university. The witness’ wife is Morsal and they have no children. The family lived in the same house with their father before the occurrence.

He is not a pilot and he has received no training as a pilot. Dr. Shirzad does have a passport and he has traveled to Pakistan for medical treatment and to Iran as a student for a conference related to his studies. He will travel to the U.S. for the trial if necessary.
It is the witness’ understanding that Midwest has been named in the case because it operated the radar. Honeywell’s involvement in the case is it had equipment that was supposed to be installed in the airplane that would give an alarm, but this was not done.
Dr. Shirzad first learned of the accident from the media in Afghanistan. He subsequently spoke with a Pamir representative at the Kabul airport regarding receiving their father’s body. They were informed that the bodies would not be returned until all the bodies were identified. They were not able to bury the decedent until sixty-three days after the incident.
After receiving his father’s remains, the witness had additional discussions with Pamir regarding the remaining amount due on his father’s salary. He has never spoken with the Afghan government regarding the incident nor has he spoken with anyone regarding the cause of the accident.
