Introduction
There are many ways to read literary works in literature in order to find meaning(s), one of which is deconstructive reading. Deconstructive reading is always become an interesting approach on literary works due to the nature of this method that considers meaning is not stable but rather the meaning is created by the reader in the act of reading.

Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (or Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde) is a novel that tells a story about a doctor in pursuit on separating the good and evil nature of human that eventually leads to his own destruction. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, it is obvious the binary opposition structuring the text can be found in the good versus evil theme. In fact, the main theme of the novel is good versus evil. In the novel, Stevenson writes, “doing the good things in which he found his pleasure, and no longer exposed to disgrace and penitence by the hands of this extraneous evil” (64) and “Jekyll was no worse; he woke again to his good qualities seemingly unimpaired; he would even make haste, where it was possible, to undo the evil done by Hyde” (69). It is obvious that the binary opposition is good/evil or Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde.

As we read the novel, the normal reader will keep in mind that Dr. Jekyll is the good guy while Mr. Hyde is the bad guy. But we also should aware that both of them are the same person. When Dr. Jekyll drinks the potion and turns into Mr. Hyde or the reverse process, Mr. Hyde turns to Dr. Jekyll, they are only differing in term of physical appearance. The concept of evil only can be seen from the way of they appear. For sure there are parts that Edward Hyde is considered evil because of his actions like trampled over a little girl and killed Sir Danvers Carew, a parliament member. What about an army that kills his enemy for his country? The action is still considered as murder but is that considered as evil? So what is the real definition of evil? The novel is basically telling us that there is a fight between good and evil within the human themselves as a person. The Same thing also happens in our real life. As a religious or even an atheist person, we are struggling to become a good person so that we are not getting the social sanction later on because we are taught about what is good and what is evil. For example, hitting a girl is an evil doing. Murder a man also an evil doing. The same also happen in our real life. We are not supposed to hit a girl or murder a man. In addition, the social sanction itself turns people into some kind of hypocrite person. On one side, we are respecting honourable man; on the other side, we are disrespecting dishonour man.
