An example of this would be when Donnie makes his way to his therapist's appointment, his father almost hits an old woman ominously known as "Grandma Death." Almost as if by some eerie coincidence, the woman leans in close to Donnie, whispering haunting words of wisdom into his ear; “all life must ultimately come to an end, and each individual must face that alone.” These words leave Donnie feeling deeply troubled, as he begins to question the fundamental meaning of life itself. He then takes her words to heart and has the subconscious idea that his life has no meaning. As we progress through the movie we can begin to see Donnie's worry leave as he realizes that he is the only person to set the universe into alignment. As I also said earlier, when Donnie met face to face with his destined death he began to laugh and show signs of comfort, this is because, in the end, he realized that his life does have meaning. The other inspiration i want to use is dual story lines, where we act out two Story lines to the audience without telling them when we are in one storyline or the other. I got the idea for this from the film Donnie Darko, where everything you see is not what is happening but what is in someone's head. These inspirations hopefully will help me to achieve my aims firstly by connecting with the audience directly through the participation it brings them right into
-Theatre as Philosophy- The evolution of theatre is a long and complex story. What once began as a ritual to the ancient gods has since developed into an elaborate examination of mankind. Theatre originated in Ancient Greece as a celebration to the god Dionysius, where amateur actors would dance and sing in order to imitate him. Consequently, as the Greek Empire developed, so did theatre. By the end of the Greek Empire, scripts were being written, theatres were being built, and professional actors
